People come to Monterrey for two reasons only: to live, because of work, school or marriage; and to visit, because of work, business, school, conferences, family, fun, night life, concerts, outdoors activities, sports, museums, history, food and mostly nostalgia... Our culture is based in two pillars: hard work and family, and we are damn proud of it! You'll always be welcome in our city.

I'm súper sad many people are dismissing our way to live just because we do focus on work. Our food is amazing, family comes first and we have amazing surroundings to visit and enjoy. I'm guessing it's because they have never really been here. I've lived in Zacatecas (I love it), Puebla, CDMX, Pachuca, Gdl... And I's never change my City for a different one. We may have our issues but we surely know how to get over them.

I'm from Monterrey. I agree, it's not a touristic city and you definitely need to do some research or ask people for suggestions before going. As many others have pointed out Monterrey isn't really a tourist city, it is an industrial city that is mostly all about business. However it dies have nice attractions but they are geared more towards the locals as places to spend the weekend to relax, that being said my top pick for such a short stay is chipinque, the semi long ride from the center of the city allows you to see Monterrey and trasitions to San Pedro a very modern very rich place, but most importantly the view from the top of chipinque is one of the best in the city

Monterrey Is a mixture between México and USA. Or at least that Is what I precieved when I visited. For example, macro plaza is a huge and beautiful place but it is always empty. Completely opposite to what it happens in central and south México. I think the best part of Monterrey are its mountains.

Im from Monterrey.... but, yes. The reallity is that Mty is not CDMX, this city is just like "go, go, go, go..." you are not going to find "mercaditos" or cheap food. But you´ll find lots an lots of fast food... I guess the charm of Monterrey is the "industrial" side of it. There are a lot of HEADQUARTERS (brands, business, etc)... Basically you have been in the "pretty" side of the city (Barrio Antiguo/Macroplaza), at least talking about trees and green sights... By now you probably are not in Mty any more... but the tourist part is outside the city, Cola de Caballo (waterfall), Matacanes (Water, rocks, mountain), Carretera Nacional (food everywhere), Grutas de García (Caves), etc.. etc.... Monterrey is very expensive, since is the part of Mexico which has the lower % of government support (light, water, gas, etc...). San Pedro Garza Garcia, on the other hand... is the really expensive part of "Monterrey". =/ Not that tourist vibe for sure... hahaha. Thank you for visting my hometown. Safe travels!

It's true that our tourism goes more about nature, but it's completely false that you won't find cheap food and markets. There are a lot of cafeterias and different restaurants all around the city, cheap to gourmet. And yeah we have a lot of headquarters and factories but they´re not even near downtown or san Pedro

Kinetic Kennons it’s really hard to find good food because the quality varies from stand to stand and you really have to know which one is better by experience, and there are only a handful of establishments that do things right, but when you find them its the most unbelievably and mindblowing delicious food you’ll ever taste but like I said, you have to personally know which ones and they’re very hard to find very very hidden gems.

Whereas in southern Mexico pretty much anywhere you find is suuuper good, anything you get from any street cart around is top notch and it has to do with the quality of local and natural ingredients vs. processed food that is more prominent around here

I've lived here for 35 years. Lots to see and do. Museums; history and art, restaurants with traditional foods such as cabrito and antojitos mexicanos as well as italian, American style franchises, vegetarian. Hiking in the mountains in our "in city" national park Chipinque, Parque Estanzuela, Cola de Caballo, ecotourism just 45 minutes from downtown, the cave tours in Garcia, lots of shopping malls, outdoor parks, churches, Obispado, one of Mexico's largest flags 1600 sq meters, the list goes on. I love Monterrey.

There you can see a lot of nature and true folkclore regiomontano. The BEST Buffet in Santiago is TÍO PONCHO❤️ So much delicious regional food! And in the way there, try to visit PUEBLO SERENA, it's on the Road to Santiago, it's a mall and it is absolutely gorgeous and fancy ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Hi! I'm a new suscriber I got hooked after your walmart video in Puerto Vallarta. I'm from Monterrey but I live in Dallas, TX (good ol' texas) lol It made really happy to see you guys exploring my hometown and showing everybody the different faces that Monterrey has to offer. Monterrey is a multifacetic city; modern, industrial, traditional, bohemian, and unique in its own way. So there is not actually a way to figure it out...lol Everything in Monterrey may seem like in other parts of Mexico but is actually different in its own way. The best you can do to really enjoy everything is trying as if it were your first time. Tacos, elotes, raspados, etc., don't compare them, just enjoy!!!

Many of these graduated students are taken by several countries in Europe, they are one of those in more demand throughout Mexico as well. The Alameda is the place instead of the 'plaza central'. You just did what you suppose to do when the area is expensive,...You just look for the 'MERCADO", and now you have good food for at affordable price. That is the way students travel in Mexico.

The central plaza of any town in Mexico will have a church and the mayor's building. In the case of Monterrey, you missed it because it's the southern end of the Macroplaza. The Cathedral is on one side, the "new" Municipal Palace (built in the 70s) on its south end and the old mayor's palace (now a museum) on the west side. The north of the Macro is where the Governor's Palace is (also a museum) and there was a small plaza across from it. Now, it's just one great Macroplaza. When built, it was the second largest in the world after the Red Square in Russia. Barrio Antiguo, btw, is part of what regios call downtown.

I knew y’all would be somewhat frustrated or disappointed with my city LOL. There’s nothing really attractive like the south Mexico, not very much culture around here, But if it was up to me I would’ve taken you to the places with the real street food, tacos mañaneros, the real snacks , and I would’ve taken you to villa de santiago, a small colonial town, but it seems y’all have already come and left , but next time(if there’s a next time at all 😂) I’ll be your tour guide, the wonders of nature here are outstanding, you should definitely hike the mountains, and the city is huge you would need more than 3 days to really see the good things. But lets wait for the next video to see your final thoughts, good luck on your next adventures Gueros and take care, all the best from a Regio!

El Obispado, Montemorelos (eat their oranges), El Planetario, La Huasteca, la Zona Rosa, Fundidora, la Catedral, Arab food is delicious... so much more to explore!

The thing is, I'm pretty sure you stayed within the vicinity of old downtown which is the founding square where the city began and is not very developed, but the metropolitan area of Monterrey is very large and things are distant from each other, its not like in the states that everything is centered around downtown. There is an area that I don't know if you had the chance to go to, but is on the other side of a big hill which actually blocks the view of the main skyline where all the buildings are, and you can't see from where you were in the video , you can't see it from fundidora either. did you get the chance to go to chipinque?

You won't find much colonial architecture in northern Mexico for the same reason you don't find it in Santa Fe, San Antonio or Los Angeles, northern Mexico was all small towns during the colonial period up until the early 20th century, so you'll find the modern parts as in Queretaro but not the colonial centro with all the nice buildings.

What about Zacatecas, Saltillo, Durango, Chihuahua, Parral, Sombrerete, Montemorelos? Now in the former territories of California and Nuevo Mexico there are plenty of Missions and Presidios. In Texas there is San Antonio which still keeps plenty of Spanish colonial architecture. And the city of New Orleans what they call the French Quarter is actually the Spanish Quarter since most of the buildings are actually Spanish not french with the exception of some churches. It is true there were less cities than in central Mexico but it is also true that many cities lost their colonial and also their 19th century charm in order to "modernize", it is therefore the fault of individuals and their local governments for not conserving the architectural heritage of the cities. The same thing happened in Guadalajara, many of the Spanish colonial and neoclassical buildings were destroyed in an attempt to modernize the city.

The Macroplaza, it's the main plaza in Monterrey, the "museum" that you just visited at the beginning of the video, it's also the Nuevo Leon's government principal building, and at the beginning of "La Macro" (as we usually call it), near to the Contemporary Art Museum (MARCO in spanish), it is the principal Monterrey's building of the municipal government :) So, that's our principal plaza, La Macro

As a regio myself, I am sorry +Kinetic Kennons. You won't find the culinary wonders that you have experienced in central Mexico, neither the beauty and culture thereof. Native Monterrey cooking is very simple and unsophisticated. Other food offerings from other states probably are going to be expensive. Other Mexicans always complain how expensive the food is in Monterrey. Cabrito is perhaps the most original thing Monterrey will have, that and some caramel candy called Glorias. I would recommend El Pastor on Gonzalitos avenue, but that is very ritzy and perhaps outside your budget. There is one place in the Mercado Juarez which is very traditional and old and perhaps within your price range. I am vegetarian when eating out, so I would recommend Tacos Dorados La Alberca, which are behind the Macroplaza on Zuazua street. They've been around like for 70 years and serve these tacos which are very original to the place. They are red tortillas stuffed with only seasoned mashed potatos, and can be served either hard fried or soft, and served with a salad of shredded lettuce and diced tomatoes. But they are delicious, specially the homemade red sauce they have on the side. They're like $60 pesos for an order of 5 tacos. But you better go early, like 5 pm-7pm, because supplies are limited. Call before going, and reserve your tacos. They are THAT good. On the other hand, Monterrey wants to be like the U.S. Actually, lots of regios love Houston (which has the biggest population of regios outside Mty), and generally have Texas as a point of modernity (eye-roll). The main points of attraction are very modern and new. Parks, stadiums, Fundidora, Santa Lucía, San Pedro. Most are not even 20 years old. Monterrey for most of its history was on the fringes of Mexican culture, and really did not start to develop until the end of the 19th c., and it really grew as a result of NAFTA in the late 1990s. Enjoy!
