I saw you guys are cycling against the coming traffic at video timing 8.55. That is against the law in Singapore. That shown how disrepectful you guys are? Thinking this is in Vietnam that even car and motorbike can go against the traffic. Do forget that if you are hitted by incoming car, that is your fault and accordingly to law, insurance company will not be responsible and will not compensate you anything. Because your are cycling against the traffic flow.

That's pretty true that in Singapore cars wait for pedestrians, which is really good. I miss Hawkers food as well. Tonkatsu looks good. In Singapore, even a small children are eating Udon, the traditional Japanese noodle. I was surprised how much Japanese food was common.

Wow, the scenery is out of the box clean. I actually thought at the start you guys were on a movie set where everything is perfectly in place. From the bike rides, I'll have to put Singapore on the list of places I can look to ride in. I watched your Taiwan vlogs and once there, I did some riding, but it was winter so no loop around the island. Next visit I'll get more adventurous, although around Taipei, it's just as bad as Vietnam, with the traffic and scooters. Glad it was a good trip for you two.

@@TwoWheelCruise In Taipei, its easy to get around with public transportation once you figure it out, but I noticed a lot of similarities, such as scooters used and parked on sidewalks, the honking, going backwards down streets and just the overall congestion. Now once out of Taipei, it's awesome. Mainly where I rode along the river away from traffic, I had no problem and felt more like my home rides. It definitely was a cultural shock my first visit to see so many scooters as a main option of transportation.

Japan used to have public trash bins unti the "地下鉄サリン事件" on the 20th of March 1995, then, it was decided that it was a possible place to hide "bombs", etc, and they were taken away for good. That's why you have to carry your garbage till you can dispose of it at your home or most likely a combini store.

KZbin is so weird sometimes. I know they say putting your face on the thumb-nail helps the algorithm, but even subconsciously it works. I popped up KZbin, and was like "oh, yeah, I know those guys!" and now here I am watching another fun adventure! I think it's fascinating how in a world of click-bait, words themselves have lost so much meaning, but a face is a good representation of the ideas and integrity of a channel. It didn't even matter what the title of the video was. I just knew the people who produced it were awesome. Keep up the good work!

I heard that when Singapore become independence after separated from Malaysia, 75% of the populations are Chinese descends. During that separation time, Singapore currency which is called Singapore dollar is the same value to Malaysia Ringgit. 1 dollar equal to 1 ringgit. 10 after that it is 1 Singapore dollar to 1.5 ringgit. 20 later it is 1 Singapore to 2 ringgit. Today the exchange rate is 1 Singapore dollar to 3.3 ringgit. See the different is so great.

One of the reason why emission standards of cars are great because of the 10 years ownership permit (COE). That means after 10 years you have to pay again to drive the same car or buy new - which make more sense (e.g. there a monetary incentive scarp the car at 10 years, higher road tax for cars > 10 yo). Thus, newer cars are mostly on the road. The current going rate of a 10 years permit is about USD 77K. So a new Prius cost about USD 110K. Motorcycle permit is now about USD 8.5K. That's to reduce congestion in SG. Otherwise everyone can buy a car given our GDP per capita is about USD61K. Thus, the government invest a lot on the public transport. May not be perfect but that's the direction - less cars, more public transport, last mile transport like folding bikes.

I'm curious how electric cars will affect this? It seems like Singapore could easily fully switch to electric.
@NEAAFFAIRS
@NEAAFFAIRS 2 жыл бұрын
@@TwoWheelCruise electric car have up to 20K up front tax reduction. Still expensive e.g. 125k for Tesla 3. And the government is slowly building infrastructure. But owners like me will wait out the 10 years period or change when it makes economic sense. They will phase out combustion engine vehicles sales by 2030 iirc Electric or not, cars take up space in this small island. So the car population still need to be controlled. Right now high taxes is used. I doubt it will change fundamentally

Singapore looks fantastic! Difficult to buy a house there, though, if you are a foreigner -- so I've heard. There are other island-nations with similar real estate policies, but Singapore has got to be one of the most livable, looks like. Apparently, Thuong likes to dance and has some impressive basic moves 🙂 Oh yes, her English is coming along very nicely. We get to know her better and can appreciate the way she complements your personality and adds to the experience of your travels. Looks like four different languages are spoken there. How prevalent is English (saw some street signs in English)? Based on your videos, Singapore seems like a cyclist's paradise. I really appreciate the way you compare/contrast the country you are in with Viet Nam and Japan. Appreciate the pros and cons of those Asian countries. It’s all good, though. Yeah, it's difficult for foreigners to buy houses or land in most Asian countries. Japan is actually quite easy if you have cash, but getting loans is very difficult. @@TwoWheelCruise I live in Paradise, Nevada. It's an unincorporated city adjacent to Las Vegas. Actually, most of the major casinos are in Paradise and not Las Vegas. Most just say Las Vegas, not realizing they are in Paradise. I never knew until after I moved here. Oh, my mail is addressed to Las Vegas. Paradise was carved out to avoid paying taxes to the city of Las Vegas.

when i first went to Singapore almost 2 decades ago, bicycles were technically not allowed on sidewalks. nowadays they've compromised to allow non motorised bicycles which is good because i recall a couple fatal accidents involving school students while cycling on the roads. motorists have also become more accepting of cyclists on roads especially after covid, perhaps because of the sheer number of ppl who took up the sport during the lockdowns; many of the motorists are cyclists themselves! impressive to see how quickly singapore's cycling infrastructure has evolved. just wished the weather was more conducive for daily commuting

People are like dogs, they want and need discipline. When you have strict and enforced rules, standards, and laws even in a multicultural society like Singapore, you get what you see in this video. Unfortunately our leaders in America are doing the polar opposite, and the results have been nothing less than a total disaster for our country.

There's basically two types of cyclists in Singapore - the road cyclists and the mountain bikers. My husband belongs to the later. If you hadn't already visited Bukit Timah Nature Reserve, they have a few cycling trails there as well as at Chestnut Nature Park. He sometimes goes over to Ubin to cycle as well.

@@GordoGambler commuter cyclists (those that cycle to work) are not common in Singapore as compared to Europe. I ride my 3 IGH steel tour/ load comfort bar bikes anywhere and everywhere, sidewalks to freeway highways with thousands of semi trucks, where I seldom see anybody else. LOL. I worked in Singapore from 1990 to 1993. Even then, the govn already targeted Switzerland standard of living, and prepared their citizens with the higher cost of living in Singapore. Salaries need to be high and that had nearly been achieved. But social security is non existent so income gap is high. Singapore should also copy Switzerland 's social security also, or else the high cost of living will be unsustainable. Worst, global competiveness forced native Singaporeans out of the job market. What is the point of all the high income if original Singaporeans do not benefit? Again, learn from Switzerland.

If you choose to go restaurant and eat everyday,of course it will be expensive. For basic necessities and food,we are consider affordable. With inflation affecting around the world,this inflation doesn't just affect Singapore. Take Thaland and Malaysia for example,do you think their basic necessities are cheap? Yes,if you are earning sin dollars,if you are a working class in these countries,they are struggling also. On surface,they look good also,no? There's no perfect country,but to say is unaffordable here is quite a sweeping statement.

I know someone who was born and lives there and it is very expensive. He also told me that your car (which is ridiculously expensive) has to be recycled every 5 or 10 years. Meaning, you need to get a new car… that aside, it does look pretty and peaceful but I’m sure it has its struggles like any other country. Cheers from Tampa Florida to you two. ❤
