Despite being born and raised in Australia, I've never been to Sydney, Australia's largest city and and the state capital of New South Wales (NSW). Today I intended to change that. After a long arduous 13 hour train journey on the NSW Regional XPT, it was time see if Sydney met expectations and lived up to its stereotypes, or presented a completely different image to that which would otherwise be expected.

Thank you for a brilliant travelog video! I think the image of Sydney for most non-Australians is the Harbour Bridge, the Opera House, and nothing else. You have fleshed it out to show a very sophisticated downtown core, equal to the best American cities. I especially like the historic architecture of the Central Station clock tower. I look forward to subsequent installments from Sydney.

Thanks Mike! I think many Australians who haven't been to Sydney have similar preconceptions. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there from the city, to the harbour, nature and surroundings. While I wouldn't want to live in Sydney on account of the crazy high cost of living, it's definitely worth a visit and I plan to return in the future. Would also like to visit Melbourne in the near future where I also haven't been and do a fair balanced comparison between the two cities that are vying for dominance. The Sydney/Melbourne rivalry is perhaps modern Australia's greatest. Btw we typically refer to the downtown area as the CBD (Central Business District)

@@Yotopian "CBD" is a heavily used term in New Orleans, but not so much in other American cities.

I especially needed these videos as I was trying to relate to Australia. At first, flying over the land at night, seeing thunder and finally the Pacific Ocean (I came from Estonia). I am older than you and I need your youthful strength and skills to get to know Sydney better. I am grateful to all the local people that I am still thinking about meeting your mysterious homeland!

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed these videos and found it helps you better relate to Australia. That is my goal here, to show the country for what it is today, highlighting the good parts while not shying away from the bad parts. Australia certainly is a mysterious and mystical land, even for those of us who were born here. I hope to also visit Estonia and the Baltic countries one day.

@@tonutambur4110 Thanks again! I will add that there is a dark side to Australia that not many people acknowledge or even know about which I plan to cover in future videos. Like many places, it is not all sunshine and rainbows, but overall, there is still much to love about the place

@@Yotopian People who had arrived at the hostel from remote parts of Australia told me many things. That was also useful to note!

My boss recently told me he has been to Sidney on a business trip a long time ago and that the city was amazing. I realized I had never even watched any videos about the city so I had no idea what to imagine, except for the opera house. It’s cool that the first video I have now watched is from you! I thoroughly enjoyed this one. It’s funny you mentioned feeling a little uncomfortable vlogging in the city as I can 100% relate. Also interesting to think the population of the city is the same as the whole of Finland.. not that I haven’t been to big cities before in Asia but it’s always fun to think about.

Thanks Erno! Was a great experience to step out of my comfort zone, vlogging in such a public setting. I found myself becoming much more comfortable with it over the coming days. Even as a "domestic tourist" it was fun to finally visit the city which I previously also only thought of the Harbour Bridge and Opera House. Wouldn't want to live in Sydney on account of the insanely high cost of living, but can highly recommend the place for a visit. Will definitely return in the future. Almost 20% of Australia's population lives in Sydney alone with Melbourne not so far behind. In fact Australia is much more urbanised and centralised in terms of population spread than most people realise. 90% of the population lives on just 0.22% of the land area with over two thirds of Australians living in just the 8 state capitals alone. Fascinating to think about.

When filming plaques read aloud, it bit too kwik to see what they say. I like the spontaneouty tho.....

Thanks for the feedback! My intention with showing the plaques quickly is for the viewer to be able to pause the video and read if interested, while still keeping the general flow of the video going. Many times I have read the plaques while I am sorting the clips and watching back the video rather than when I'm actually there.

Well I'm a rare example of a QLDer that actually prefers NSW (shhh don't tell my fellow statesmen that), mainly because of the greater diversity in landscape and climate and the fact that I detest hot humid weather. Eventually see myself moving down south.
