I've been an on again, almost entirely off again filthy casual since Wrath. I started over on a friend's server, and all I can say is that the leveling freedom is so amazingly alt friendly. I'm probably going to sink a couple months just leveling different characters and getting into the dungeon content and solo roguelike tower. Super big thumbs up on the direction the game has gone.

I had a friend who was interested in trying out Retail. He had never played WoW before outside of trying Classic back when that launched. I told him, "Wait for pre-patch. It'll be better." He leveled a character very quickly after pre-patch launched then got to experience the xpac launch event in Icecrown. I was admittedly a little worried by that event since it was pretty boring, but then Shadowlands launched and let me just say that I am very happy this was the expansion he decided to start on. I've put more time into the SL launch than any other xpac I've been able to (From MoP to BFA) and I'm already playing more characters than I have in any of those. I especially felt like I didn't have the motivation to play anything other than my main in Legion and BFA, but in Shadowlands it feels pretty freeing. I'm glad to hear that Zack enjoys the xpac as much as I do. Hopefully the quality of the content stays consistent throughout.

Shadowlands is the first time I bought WoW. As a new player I really liked the campaign. As soon as I finished it I did Torghast, dungeons and dailies. Torghast for me was a pain. I spent 45min breezing through easy mobs without even worrying about my HP on layer 2. Then the final boss shows up and I get stomped 5 times and thrown out of Torghast. I felt like I just wasted an hour of my life and with the limited lives I didn't get a chance to figure out how to beat the boss. This happened twice and after that I felt like it wasnt worth the risk to lose an hour of my life. Dungeons were great! Easily the best part to play with friends! I loved Mythic and it was just hard enough that we needed strats to survive and that was great. Loved it. I found out the loot was only available once per week. I don't understand why and that really ruined it for me. It was amazing looting a boss to see if anyone get anything, without that theres no drive to play and like that my fav part of the game was timegated. Dailies suck straight up lol. As soon as I got a quest and recognized it as a quest ive already done before I got turned off from them. They felt like chores and there was no fun tied to them. So as a new player the new expansion was really cool until I beat the campaign and played my Mythic dungeons. A great game to play for about a week or two, after that I dont wanna wait for content so I dropped the game. Im sure the raid would be fun but idk enough people to do that. As a stubborm bastard i wouldnt mind the final bosses in torghast if i had infinite lives given their insane difficulty so I could overcome the challenge on my owm terms without wasting time on grinding mobs that dont even pose a threat. Also the monthly pay makes the whole game pay-gated and since i only had a month to play it that further made me not wanna wait for content since my gametime is ticking.

This is a fun expansion. I had a lot of fun leveling and following the story. The first time I popped was seeing Baroness Vasj and thinking it was cool that she was on our side. Getting thrown into the fighting pit at the start of Maldraxxus was very cool too lol It feels like Blizzard thought, "What would be cool and fun?" instead of "What do we have to do?" when they were making the content.

I've leveled up 3 characters for this expansion during the prepatch (2 boosts from prepurchase + these 3 = full healer complement on a freshly picked high pop server) and I gotta say, the Twists of fate thingy is dope. I basicaly just leveled up characters in various expansions, depending on which achievs I still needed for the Loremaster, ended up clearing TBC/LK/Legion & BFA ones (had quite a bit done from before, but you get the idea). And if you didn't have any achievs from before, I still liked the idea of being able to just level up through, say, Lich King, if your heart so desires. The pacing of leveling is now normal, you don't rush 15 zones per hour anymore, which is good. You DO level up fast, you just don't zip through content like a squirrel on speed. I'm sure some are faster than others, but hey, that was to be expected - if you need to minmax the rather "doesn't actualy have to be min-maxed" leveling experience, you can presumably google which way is the speediest. The one thing that's relatively tricky is the fact that Threads of fate automaticaly wraps up the moment you ding 50, so if you've been collecting some achievement or another, you might as well pause leveling at 49 just to clear out what you've had left to do before actualy getting to 50.

As primarily a leveler I preferred BFA, I like to level toons and been doing it since 2004, the whole end game grind and repetition just isn´t my cup of tea. I am in it for the guild chat, the story and it´s very much like reading an interactive book while socializing with likeminded people. I have played though the SL campaign twice trying to focus on a different zone for quests each time, it has offered some variety but the way the game is railroaded the story brings little new to the table upon repeating the whole ordeal. BFA offered a multitude of choices including which zones to focus on from the very beginning, Alliance and Horde environments where very different and while I could have wished for a better story I felt the options were plenty if I wanted to approach things from a different angle. Various mechanics were also introduced early on in BFA which helped with variety including sending your followers on missions. I never understood the whole constant repetition end game progress and while I do repeat various storylines redoing some which I havn´t done in a while do help the monotony. I guess I wanted an expanded BFA style game with more and bigger zones, longer leveling progression and separate stories for Horde and Alliance. I guess I was also hoping for a whole new revamped and meaningful crafting system, that didn´t happen either, as an engineer I have a pet to unlock behind an exalted wall. The last time Blizzard were creative was in WoD. Enough rambling, I do know many in my guild love the grind and don´t mind doing things over and over so it´s my hope you guys are having fun. I started in vanilla, and had a blast. Started as a NE hunter, and did the unthinkable at the time and switched to a Orc Warlock. I did my first raid, and I enjoyed the shit out of it, but TBC happened, and for some reason I fell out of love with WoW. I went back to FF11, and had a decent time for a few months, and ultimately just quit MMO's for over a decade! FF14 came back "reborn" and I loved it, and honestly didn't think about WoW, but the stars aligned and KZbin suggested a WoW vid to me, and then I was back like cooked crack! It only last for awhile, as it was the end of some expansion....then a few years rolled by and boom! I'm at the end of Legion, and I didn't have a clue wtf was going on. I tried and struggled to catch up, and it didn't work. I left again. Then boom, I'm interested in WoW a few years later, and I'm in the middle of BFA! Didn't like it, but I did enjoy Legion after all that was said and done, and I finished way too many class hall quests, and dabbled into Legion and BFA in order to unlock the Zandalari, Vulpera, Lightforged Dranei, and Void Elves. After those unlocks, WoW felt fresh to me again. I started leveling alts again and it was fun! Then I heard the announcement of Shadowlands and thought to myself, I don't think I will buy into this, but I did! I have honestly been enthralled with WoW since the first pre-patch to Shadowlands, and my friends think I'm crazy, as I haven't even bought Cyberpunk yet. Blizzard did something with the storytelling that made WoW engaging again, just like SE did with FF14 and Shadowbringers. Shadowbringers, for now has the best MMO story every told, but Blizzard may take the cake for me, or at the very least, make a story that rivals it. I'm honestly eagerly awaiting the future of WoW, and the story that will unfold; because this is honestly the first expansion I have played from it's release, and that is saying something for me! Sorry for this long ass post.......just wanted to put in my 2 cents, and another $15 dollars lol. Have a great evening everyone that has seen this!

I've been having a lot of fun in Shadowlands so far. I don't hardcore raid or really have a desire to do M+ (anymore to both counts) but I love casual PvP. Being able to upgrade entry level gear with Honor to have respectable gear level was such a great decision and I've been having a blast with it as an Enh Shaman. Bursting folks down with Windfury is hilarious. Also Torghast is also really fun and the lack of a McGuffin item taking up a slot has been great. Right now this has been a really fun expansion.

@ZackRawrr I remember and hear you talk about MoP expansion alot. @15:30 you mention about the normal difficulty might be a bit intense for normal. In MoP they changed normal to heroic. So actually if you look back in the history patch changes, normal is still what heroic have been for years. So the normal now has actually been heroic for many many years, at least 8/9 years. They did this because flex dungeon mode got removed and flex is now possible in normal/hc aswell.

really cant understate how good it feels to play my toon again. damage is very bursty and responsive, having cross-spec utility abilities back makes classes more complex in a good way, I actually have so much fun doing even random BGs again. So, keep in mind here, I have 32 alts. It's not the most I can have, but I am okay with having that much. That being said, in BfA, i only got like 12 characters to 120, because i felt like my main, my Tauren DK, had to have all the time and effort put into him. It really showed too, because my other characters, although max level, were severely underpowered compared to my DK. The only one that came close was my zandalari hunter. Now, 8n Shadowlands, I only have 2 toons to max level, but even though my Tauren DK hit 60 first, and my mag'har DK hit 60 a week after, they don't feel too different in power level, and the only difference I can feel is that my Tauren can do a M+8 and my Mag'har cant go pass 5 because of gear.

If Night Fae and Venthyr had heal/absorb abilities as their core covenant ability instead of blinks/teleports then we'd have a lot more people pick differently. It's impossible to tune movement mechanics because they're potentially invaluable, which makes them inherently unbalanced. Venthyr could've had a core covenant ability that gave them leech for X number of seconds. Night Fae could've had a heal over time effect, call in "Life Seed" or something.

Love the insight man, I also agree with a lot of what you said. I personally played through TBC and TLK and loved it, quit at Cataclysm then came back at MoP but didn't even complete the pexing because I was having no fun and haven't played since. Decided to try SL after having had fun in Classic and I've been blown away, the campaign was very nice, the art is STELLAR and as you said the feel of playing is just right.

Just responding to you metagame comments. Blizzard had a system that they used for 6~ years. Not all specs were DPS specs. Buffs use to relieve social pressure for low DPS (or low performing healers/tanks) to the point of it being a non issue in TBC and lich king. They know what they can do, but they wont ever go back to a true RPG that the game once was. Metagaming has happened ever since I was a kid in the 90's when online gaming was first getting started. If there was a strategy that was superior, then it would always be chosen by the competitive. It is up the devs to find ways to alleviate that as much as possible, and the modern devs long ago threw out the system that did just that.

This is purely an anecdote, but I've been a Frost DK ever since I started in WotLK, and this is the first time I'm think about switching to a different class. Unholy just doesn't click with me. It's (too) strong, but it's not my style. That's why I've always been Frost, but Frost is just much weaker and doesn't click with me anymore. It's lost what made it fun for me, it feels very unrewarding and way too chaotic now.

To me, allied races will be a Shadowlands feature. They were unreachable if I wanted to play the game and have fun. And I started to feel like playing a race I didn't like was a waste of time. They really nailed it, get rid of the rep grind and that's all they needed to do. And the leveling was painless. Fun, even. I don't mind leveling now. I actually started a new character with a race I'm interested in playing, a class that looks cool to me, probably the first time since I started playing WoW I'm playing for fun again.

There was the old world quest in BFA i didn't mind going to repeat... Like the penguin surfing one. Goofy, silly. Yeah. But it was 1/2 minutes that i had a laugh whenever it was active. So far this whole expansion has been like that. GG Blizz i enjoy logging in!

The only thing that kind of pisses me off about the xpac so far is how stingy Blizz is being with gear drops. Apparently each raid boss will now only drops 3 pieces after Tuesday's update and the amount of gear you get from running M+ seems way lower as well.

He is right on: remember there is a video where he gives out all his opinion in every WOW zone? I think Asmin has really captured what I think felt good about playing a warrior in Vanilla/Classic WoW and again other classes in SL today. A direct and connected feedback that shows you that if you press button X, you get set damage X.

I feel that if anything, to me personally, Shadowlands having such a warm reception even a few weeks after release is really telling, especially for people that are doing end game. Looking from WoD to Legion, and now to BfA to ShL, I think they tanked BfA on purpose to emulate and mirror Legion's success with Shadowlands.

No it is romanian/European, so is castlevania too. Just like wow fantasy in general draw influence from LoTR, LoTR is based on Nordic/germanic mythology and culture. Elfes, gnome, dwarfs etc is all germanic lore. Its a shame that people now a days don't know that basically all fantasy elements is European culture.
