The Bee Gees are regarded as one of the most important and influential acts in pop-music history. They not only sang in falsetto but in their chest voices, wrote and sang different genres of music. Their career spanned five decades and were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, the Rock&Roll Hall of Fame. They had 9 #1’s and won countless awards and recognition for their contribution to music. They are known for their fantastic harmonies and their prolific songwriting. Try reacting to their NIGHTS ON BROADWAY, it’s a great R&B song. ❤❤❤

"How Deep Is Your Love" is sublime, but the BeeGees' career started long before disco. Their first success came in the 60's and had many ups and downs before "Saturday Night Fever". Despite an unfortunate backlash against disco in 1979 which led to radio stations refusing to play their music, they went on to have a successful career as producers. They were a major force in music and their catalog is well worth exploring.

The Bee Gees are the 3 Brothers Gibb. Barry (main singer in Too Much Heaven) was born in 1946. Robin (long blond hair) and Maurice (pronounced Morris) are fraternal twins born in 1949. They started singing when Barry was 8 and the twins Maurice and Robin were 5. Their first albums came out in the early 1960’s. They wrote and produced over 1,000 songs to include songs they wrote for Diana Ross, Dion Warrick, Celine Dion, Barbara Streisand, Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton and even Michael Jackson. They have sold over 220 million records worldwide placing them among the best-selling music artists of all time, as well as the most successful trio in the history of contemporary music. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997; the Hall's citation says, "Only Elvis Presley, the Beatles, Michael Jackson, Garth Brooks and Paul McCartney have outsold the Bee Gees." With nine number-one hits on the Billboard Hot 100, the Bee Gees are the third-most successful band in Billboard charts history behind only the Beatles and the Supremes.

Bee Gees were the greatest singers songwriters OF ALL TIME. It's really an injustice thinking of them as disco singers although those were the most popular songs of the disco era but that's about 5 of their 100+ songs. Their catalogue is extensive. They started singing in the 1960's and sang in every decade through the 2000's.The wrote songs for numerous other artists. They had 6 of the top 10 songs on the chart at one time. which consisted of their music and songs they wrote for others. They abhorred being called disco singers because that was not who they were.

Back in the 70s, when I was in my 20s, I looked down on or ignored bands like the Bee Gees and Abba, as bland, non-intellectually stimulating musak for the masses. Now in the 2020s, I'm in my 70s and I have to say my opinion has changed. They may still be enormously popular, but I can finally take my blinkers off and appreciate the brilliance of the lyrical song-writing, melodies, production and vocal harmonies, without any need for them to represent some sort of political or social agenda.. They mostly speak of ordinary human relationships, situations and experiences, transforming them by the magical power of a musical benediction into something greater, deeper and genuinely moving. I guess it just takes a while for some of us to admit to our ordinary humanity. :-)

A lot of Funk and R&B musicians also got thrown over the fence into Disco. It helped them finally find a bigger audience and make the money they deserved. That was the positive. The negative was that it presented their music as trivial and passive which it was not. The Disco label was not good to a lot of great music. There was also a lot of crap labels did produce during that time. I was a teen in the 70s and never got into Disco but I love Funk and R&B pre-Disco. A lot of bands released Disco era / dance songs in the 70s like the Eagles, Bowie, Rolling Stones, Queen, Pink Floyd, Blondie... the list is very long..

The Bee Gees are awesome. They have had a long road to get where they landed. Barry Gibb is the one who impresses me most. A humble brother who wrote many songs that were chart hits for artists outside of The Bee Gees including Kenny Rogers, Dolly Parton, Destiny’s Child, Barbara Streisand and many others. He is an incredible person. The Bee Gees biography is worth researching.

The Bee Gees (Brothers Gib) are giants in music history. They actually had three distinct stages and styles, The first was in immitation of the early Beatles in the mid-sixties. The next stage one was more singer songwriter, along the lines of the Beatles 'Rubber Soul' era and the Birds and Simon & Garfunkel--but with their own distinctly haunting melodies, harmonies and accent. And then there was their disco incarnation in the mid-late seventies which turned them into global mega-stars. Even during this disco stage their music always transcended straight 'Disco'.

I'm with you on the Beach Boys, even though they made important contributions to how popular is produced. Also, back in the 70s a lot of people (mostly from the harder rock camp) dismissed the Beegees as disposable pop and--even worse--mindless Disco. I find it interesting that see younger people react to the Beegees, the Carpenters, and ELO without the baggage of mid-century aesthetic camps.

The Bee Gees had a long and varied career. They were, for a time, a victim of being cast as a “disco” group based on the almost unfathomable success of Sat Night Fever. They have a lot of other music. Try the extended version of Nights on Broadway. You will hear, in the background, the origins of the falsetto which dominated the SNF era.

BeeGees (all brothers) are very underrated, at a time when early innovative lyrical rock and folk rock was King (to the avant- Garde), they were sometimes seen as too “pop” - but their music, voices and sound is beautiful and never fails to move me. Also fyi- The early Beach Boys pre-dated the early BeeGees by 5 years more or less. Your commentaries are thoughtful, insightful and appreciated. So many young reviewers fall over themselves repeating each other to get the views, but I’m always interested in your critical analyses that help me see the music I grew up with (I’m 73) in a new light. The music you are loving (Beatles, Stones, Dylan, CSN&Y, Simon & Garfunkel, Kinks, etc etc etc etc….) has stood the test of time (like me 😁).

This is what I’ve been waiting for you to come around to…the Bee Gees. There has been, and probably will never be a band like them, as their writing vocals, lead and harmonising are like no other. How ‘Deep is your Love’ is from Saturday Night Fever album and film, and a very good film too. If you are really wanting to listen to the Bee Gees, there are two half’s. 1967-1974 and then 1975 onwards. Personally I like the earlier Bee Gees far better than the later, although from 1975-1982 were the best as far as the RnB/disco music was concerned, but the meaty music is the earlier, where there are goosebump moments waiting for you, I’m sure.

Pop, pure pop (German Schlager) in the 60s and early 70s; short separation, then came 1975 US no.1 JIVE TALKIN' (for me totally surprising and influencing the whole worldwide music scene: disco, basis for their later immense success and many imitators), which you should definitely hear, even if you're not a disco fan like me. At the latest after US no.1. You Should Be Dancin' in 1976 many were infected: the volcano Saturday Night Fever broke out, although this ballad was the first single - amazing! - and brought them 6 no.1 hits in a row. P.S. I must confess; they were really good live, especially their harmony singing, but the whole show with a variety of music styles; learned everything from scratch! Hats off, respect!!! Not saw them live, but 2-3 times concerts in TV.

Here's the deal with the Beach Boys: they were definitely a band that reflected the American culture of the time, especially of Southern California. And in the 1960s Southern California was the epicenter of American pop culture trends (sorry everywhere else, but its true. California today? Not so much). Surfing and car culture were super big at that time, and The Beach Boys were the pied pipers of that culture. Every teen either surfed or imagined themselves surfing. TV shows and movies about surfing were churned out on a weekly basis. Everyone with a car had a favorite cruising spot that would be where they were for socializing on Friday and Saturday nights. This was the pre-shopping mall and computer era, and during summers teens were at the beach, shore, river or cruising with their best girl or guy. Guys were in to cars not computers. I'm 69 now and if I want to get the "feels" of being young again all I have to do is listen to some Beach Boys and I'm having the time of my life.

German guitarist, Michael Schenker, the younger brother of Scorpians guitarist, Rudolf Schenker. With the addition of Michael the dynamics changed drastically & their popularity skyrocketed. It's from this point where they've influenced such groups & musicians like Slash, Iron Maiden & Metallica. There are a couple live performances available. Live or studio doesn't matter. The song will blow you away. Other great songs to follow up with are "Doctor, Doctor", "Too Hot to Handle", "Lights Out", "You Can Rock Me", "Love to Love", & "Too Much of Nothing" just to name a few

As a hip hop enthusiast, you MUST read the lyrics to Staying Alive about struggling in the big city. They are deep and still relevant today ( but replace 'New York Times' with 'social media'.) For a really funky bassline, amazing lyrics, and about 3 different bridges or choruses, please react to " Love you Inside Out." Also you havent heard the BeeGees if you haven't heard "Nights on Broadway," both of which are faster pace than this one. Love your accent!!❤❤❤

I know people think the Beach Boys and especially Brian Wilson are geniuses, but to me The Gibb Brothers are superior to them/him, certainly vocally. The BeeGees were: the tallest and oldest brother (with the big hair and beard), Barry Gibb, born September 1, 1946, the only surviving Gibb brother. Robin Gibb (with the long hair, no beard), born December 22, 1949-passed away May 20, 2012, and Robin's fraternal twin brother Maurice (the balding brother with the beard, pronounced "Morris") Gibb, born December 22, 1949-passed away January 12, 2003. They also had another, younger, brother Andy Gibb, born March 5, 1958-passed away March 10, 1988. The three oldest brothers were born on the Isle of Man (UK). Oldest brother Barry got seriously burned when he accidentally pulled boiling tea over himself at 18 months old. He was in coma for a while, nearly died and was in hospital for many months. Because of this, he did not learn to talk until after the twins were born. Later the family moved to Manchester and from there they emigrated to Australia in 1958, right after Andy was born. All 4 brothers are just natural musical talents. All of them dropped out of high school in their early teens and none of them could read or write music. All their compositions were created completely organically. Their musical career, which they had started as little kids, didn't lead to international success so they moved back to the UK in 1966. Then they had a string of big hits, until they temporarily broke up around 1970 for 15 months. Started back up, looking for a new sound which they first found in 1974 with the transitional album "Mr. Natural". After that "Main Course" was the first album that moved them into a new direction: more rhythm&blues, dance music like with great hits like Nights on Broadway and Jive Talkin' (and was also actually the first album on which their logo was introduced). From 1976 on they went all out with falsetto driven dance music which lead to their biggest commercial success as they provided classic songs for the Saturday Night Fever Soundtrack (1977 Stayin' Alive, How Deep is Your Love, Night Fever amongst them). You should react to the 1979 live version of Stayin' Alive, too kzbin.info/www/bejne/bZ_MiYaebNuKiKs Other great songs to analyze: great album tracks from the 1979 Spirits Having Flown album, the title song: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jXnCm2xmm6h8oZY, the outrageously beautiful song Reaching Out kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJerhoZrgstjZrM. From their Still Waters album, Smoke and MIrrors: kzbin.info/www/bejne/g4Wcp4V-iLyBmM0. From the 1960's I've gotta get a message to you kzbin.info/www/bejne/eXKXdHykedOHoZo.
