Opeth’s older albums are theme based. So for them making much out of the lyrics of individual songs is difficult. It’s more about the music. But for their newer albums, they are focusing on heaviness of the emotion and lyrics rather than the sound, so for newer tracks (Damnation onwards) lyrics are more important.

Love that you do studio versions first since even though live versions are sometimes better, album versions just seem better for a first reaction. Keep it up.

I dont care about digging into the lyrics at all. Just enjoy to the song as it is.
@nicolasdias48274 жыл бұрын
I mean, the "song as it is" is not a collection of texts deciphering its meaning so it can be more coherent as a composition. All the important aspects are sonically presented. And that is how you experience it. Sure digging up the lyrics can make you appreciate the song much more, but i think that is for subsequent listening, not the first. Its like playing a game with a walktrhough in your first playthrough.

@@andre99249 And like, why not open the tabs to every instrument and synth on the song? So we can figure out what is exactly happening there too? Its not like you couldnt hear it on the song right?

Awesome song! Probably one of Opeth's heaviest ones. I even made a shitty cover on my channel, this piece is just stuck in my heart

Love your honesty and how careful you are to not just overhype everything and be "blown away" by everything and every song you hear, like some other individuals here on youtube I shall not name. Also when it comes to opeth and being indifferent to those segments you speak of: their music is very complex under the hood, a LOT is going on that is subtle and a lot that is obvious. Songs are usually totally unpredictable for someone that has not heard them at least 3 or so times before or someone who is not used to prog in general. Someone who litenes to a lot of prog will immediately know what they are dealing with and will be immediatelly comfortable, but that is clearly not you, so you have to realize it takes time to digest this music, you have to give your brain the chance to get comfortable with all that is going on, hence many listens. You reacted to these tracks and clearly loved the shit out of many parts and overall really enjoyed them, despite not feeling several segments. Digest these songs on your own in your own pace, listen to them for at least 5 or 10 more times(which youve clearly been doing as youve said before, for which I have lots of respect!) and at least half of these tracks should grow on you immensly. That happened to me, all my friends who gave them a chance and pretty much all people on internet who gave Opeth a serious chan e that was not just a one time listen.

A Fair Judgement seems like an ideal song for you. No growls, just cleans, but still very Opeth.

The outro is like a song within a song.It has an intro a middle & an outro all of it's own.

A Fair Judgement would be a proper follow up. Next song in the album and clean vocals! I bet you’d love it

Drew, here's something great that maybe you don't know: the last four Opeth albums have absolutely no growls and are AMAZING. Less overdrive as well, much more keyboards. And still sounds like Opeth if you know what I mean. But I haven't seen any recommendations here of this era, because most of the fans are stuck in the past. And I'm sure for you this recent era would be much more interesting!! Because they kept all their amazing elements, with no growls and new elements instead, his clean vocals became much much more insane. Here are my recommendations about Opeth's "new era": Next of Kin => from their new album, MASTERPIECE. And epic outro here too Sorceress => one of the heaviest of the new era Chrysalis => beautil and heart breaking mellow outro Eternal Rains Will Come => insane drums and beatiful melodies The Devi'ls Orchard => dark and spooky experimental track
