Dimash catapaulted to fame in Asia due to his appearance on the Chinese singing competition show "Singer" in 2017. This performance was his return to that stage at the charity episode and he used it to express his gratitude to the audience that had accepted his so warmly in 2017. At the end of the song he replaced the English "I Love You" with the Chinese equivalent, followed by the same in Kazakh and then he thanked the audience in Chinese.

This is one of my FAVORITE performances....just vocally smashed it! His voice is so piercing, cutting, .....as a singer myself....it just blows my mind! This song, the intensity, the soul depth passion, it just brings an involuntary emotional reaction every time....it brings tears to my eyes.....it is sung from such a deep soul level.....such an aching of the heart....it's really sung at a gut level...at the end you can see in his mouth the effects that happen when someone is very emotional and cries......he doesn't 'perform' he lives his songs as he sings them.

Lionel Richie must be thrilled with the renewed attention that this song has garnered due to Dimash’s cover. I love the unique instrumentalisation and the vocal melisma that Dimash adds to the original melody that was much simpler. I’m surprised that this is the first English song you’ve heard by Dimash!?! Across Endless Dimensions is also in English, as well as one of the newest ones (Be with Me video dropped about a week ago now.). Dimash’s English has steadily been improving. (Although, if you go with Be with Me, there is a section not in English too. I won’t say more so as to not ruin your surprise!)

@@weslove6018 I’ve heard this before as well, but I didn’t say that Lionel Richie was happy with Dimash’s cover, I’m just suspecting that he would be thrilled with the newfound attention an old song has garnered. I’ve also heard that some of the issues concerning Vitas and Lionel Richie may have been due to The Singer not having sought copyright permission in advance. As audience, it’s important to look at perspective.

This was a song written and performed by Lionel Ritchie, formerly of The Commodores, an African-American band, and was released in 1984. Ten years before Dimash was born. Dimash was still 22 years old when he performed this on "Singer 2018."

This is one of my favourite performances. Although I love everything he performs. Dimash is a tremendous artist, but as a Dear, any of us would share with you we also love his personality and his integrity to his family, his country, it’s traditions, history, music. You seem to be interested on the words and their meaning - which we all are I suppose. However, here's little bit of info. you might be interested in. Dimash had a 'friend' called Denis Ten who was an Olympic bronze medalist ice skater. Denis was murdered and Dimash recorded (with U Tube) himself singing SOS to Denis as he skates. SOS is all about wishing he could be up there in heaven, soaring like a bird and looking down on the earth instead of having to live here. Isn't that a statement of real 'friendship'.

This is a masterful vocal performance, and Dimash takes what are fairly simple lyrics and brings out every possible layer of emotion and meaning. This is from the finale episode of I Am Singer 2018, the year after Dimash competed (and the year Jessie J won). There are a few non-English songs Dimash sings that may have translations with them that would be good for your lyric dissections: Late Autumn (or Autumn Strong); Daybreak; The Love of Tired Swans.

These children put so much pressure and stress on themselves to achieve perfection its unbelievable, and their drive...there is no stopping them. For those who love Dimash, another must see singer is Zhao Shen from China. Because of his small stature, feminine disposition and voice, he was often bullied in school. Never thinking that he had what it takes to be a singer, he went tot he Ukraine to become a dentist. While there, he was convinced that he did have a great singing ability, thus transferred his major to music. Thank goodness he did. As an introduction into Zhao "Charlie" Shen, begin with his premiere performance on the Voice of China singing HuanYan. After this first video, move on to his versions of "Memory", and "Time to Say Goodbye". For something different from him, watch his version of "Let It Go" and "Monsters". Last, but definitely not least (there is so much more from him), enjoy the videos, "This is Me" and a very unique and fun song (one of my favs) "Da La Beng Ba". His biggest success is the song "Big Fish".

You've got Dimash down pat!! Check out his closest female counterpart. Her name is "SO HYANG" she is Korean. Koreans call her the Korean Mariah Carey!! I believe it's the other way around!! Please start with "YOU RAISED ME UP"!! She and Dimash are "EARTH ANGELS" sent to soothe the souls of all humans. With the world in a DEMpanic they have helped a lot of people!! You may have noticed how impressed some of the other artists in the Green Room are. Some great performers there, but I'd certainly recommend Hua Chenyu, he's amazing but in different ways. Nunchucks from Singer 2018 (it's a cover, the contest rules limit artists in the number of their own songs they can perform) is the usual entry point to his work.

Ok. You’re venturing back into the modern super singers. I’d like to recommend 20 yo Moroccan Canadian singer songwriter named Faouzia. Hers is quite a different style than Dimash. More Adele than Andrea Bocelli. “You Don’t Even Know Me”. The official release is uptempo and very pop. There is also a stripped version with her at piano which is more dramatic. “Born Without a Heart (stripped)” has a bit more interesting lyrics. Her duet with John Legend “Minefields” has a similar theme to “Hello”.

May I suggest the following (would love to see your reaction)?: 1. To hear his highest note in a live concert (is actually off the piano keyboard and some people say that is dolphin talking... lol): Unforgettable Day in Gakku. 2. To enjoy his whistle tone and if you like action fiction movies his Diva Dance rendition (that is the song that the blue alien in The Fifth Element sang... Plavalaguna was the alien name). 3. High notes: Opera 2 during The Singer 2017. Opera 2 was originally sang by Russian Vitas, and Dimash surpasses his high notes impressively as he extends the song to go 2 octaves higher than Vitas. 4. Since I LOVED your reaction of Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody (and no, is not that particular song)... try The Show Must Go On during The Singer 2017, what can I say? Impressive. But at the time, he sang it in English phonetically as he was just beginning to learn English, so enjoy his vocal rendition vs the pronunciation. 5. Across Endless Dimensions video, song for a film, the visuals are superb and his vocals are great, he sang in English, you can differentiate the video from the live performance as he wears in the video a cool jacket that looks to me tree branches, the live performance has whales floating around him. 5. His newer video Be With Me, in English, in which he actually acts and raps... yeah, he sings in English but then he goes onto rapping in his native language (I think). I find Dimash's performance very passionate, full of feelings. "the vocal gymnastics" in the middle of the song is his own culture's melismas, something very near his heart. Nothing superficial. He expressed longing/passion in this way - the meaning of the song is loving from far away/missing someone. I would say these are different approaches to the song. Lionel's beautiful original classic is melancholic. Dimash made his own version with more desperate feeling and added his own culture's features (his melismas, throath singing in the background, Kazakh flute like instrument). Both versions are good in their own way☺️
