Ernie Isley is sorely underrated as a guitarist. You should react to their version of “Summer Breeze” or “Voyage to Atlantis”. Sublime

The Isley Brothers have one of the longest running careers spanning over eight decades starting in the 50's. They covered many genres of music soul, R&B, funk & rock. They had a lot of great songs such as "Shout", "It's Your Thing", "Twist & Shout", "This Old Heart of Mine (Is Weak For You)", "Love The One You're With", "Pop That Thang", "That Lady", "Summer Breeze", "Fight The Power", "For The Love Of You" etc.

Imagine it's 1:15 AM - and you're in a crowded disco with lights in the floor - everyone is basically wasted at this hour - and this song comes on. Everyone grabs a partner - and heads to the dance floor and everybody lets loose to the Isley Brothers laying it down. It's a memory for a lifetime.

There was a local disco club....The Lighthouse. Transparent lit up dance floor, large mirrored spinning ball, strobe lights, black lights, etc. It was the bomb. They always kicked the night off with this song. It got everyone all wet and worked up from the get go. It was virtually impossible to go home alone, even if you wanted to.

When you're so young, and these classics are only heard on AM radio in your house and car, the instrumental chops on songs like these are not appreciated. They are now.

Isley Brothers-what a long storied career. I love this song. It was a big hit, as was many of their songs. Every time one of them came on the radio, you couldn’t help but move to the groove, maybe even get up and dance. Yes Daniel react to or at least listen to Kendrick Lamar. He’s only in his mid-thirties. “American rapper Kendrick Lamar has won 161 awards from 399 nominations, including 14 Grammy Awards, six Billboard Music Awards, and the ASCAP Vanguard Award for his work as a composer.” Oh yeah, and a Pulitzer Prize in music. I love his first album. I know his later works less, but I truly enjoy him and understand why he has gotten so many accolades.
@christianman732 жыл бұрын
if you haven't heard Kendrick's second major album (not counting the early indie releases, that is), "To Pimp A Butterfly," definitely check it out: The first album, "Good KId, M.A.A.D City," is widely considered to be a hip-hop classic, and for good reason, but to me, TPAB is his masterpiece, with a wider musical palette, more live instrumentation, and a deep lyrical concept and story told throughout the album.

At one point in the 60s, Jimi Hendrix was their guitarist. Not for this song I don’t believe.
@christianman732 жыл бұрын
Jimi was their guitarist for a short time in the early to mid-60s, before he left to begin his own career. He did record some songs with the Isleys, while he was in the band, but they weren't widely released until after his death in '70. This song, from '73, features Ernie Isley on guitar. Ernie was influenced by Jimi, and Ernie's great guitar work played a huge role in the band throughout the '70s.

For another trip to the past, I'd be curious to see your reaction to Mahavishnu Orchestra, the LP versions of "Noonward Race" & "Lila's Dance" in particular. Another great band to check out might be the more contemporary Snarky Puppy - there's hundreds of thousands of reactions to their tune "Lingus", but do check out "Quarter Master", "Jambone", & maybe "Grown Folks" as well. Bon chance!
@christinerobinson93722 жыл бұрын
I think it was cut off, it's not supposed to end that way. I glanced down at the replies to see if someone else mentioned it, and I'm not seeing anything, so maybe I'm wrong and it really does end like that but... "I would love to take her home": I don't think he means he wants to walk her home to her home. He wants to take her to his home. And she might go with him, but she will then "do him wrong" by stopping short of his desired goal.
