You have created, through your desire to share your love of music and art, a de facto community of art appreciators. Along the way, Daniel, many have come to enjoy and appreciate you as well. Perhaps you remind us of our own love of art and its power to inspire us. I've always agreed with Walter Pater's observation, "All art constantly aspires towards the condition of music." If there is poetry in the lyrics and emotions in the music, an artistic experience may be created like no other. But without people, in real time, experiencing and reacting, what does it mean? Recordings capture that creative moment for anyone to experience at the click of a button. But think about it, mankind has only had this reality for about 100 years. All the amazing performances that went before our time are lost. What did Mozart really sound like? We can make educated guesses, but no one really knows for sure. But we know exactly how Bob Dylan sounded when he was getting booed for playing Highway 61 Revisited, when he was going from acoustic to electric. In response to the booing, he turned to the band and said, "Play it louder." And we only know that because it was recorded. That is the age we live in - and it should be celebrated. Out of curiosity, I cruised through a lot of different reactors. Most were without depth or really, even curiosity. When I clicked on your reaction to a Leonard Cohen song, Everybody Knows, I was impressed by your sincere engagement with the piece. Your analysis was pretty good. But what I liked was that you knew you would probably understand it more deeply as you got older. Your self-awareness is partly why I don't really bother listening to other reactors anymore. Everyone experiences setbacks and struggles in life. But we all pretty much know you would never want to ask for help. From who you are, it is obvious your folks provided a healthy upbringing for you. So let me ask you, Daniel, if someone you cared about was in distress, would you just wait until they finally maybe asked for help? Or would you feel the imperative to offer it? (But as considerately as possible, of course, not wishing to offend in any way.) You should reconsider your position on accepting direct support and appreciation for your work. Patronizing art and artists has been going on for millennia - artists need supporting - it's that simple.

Best wishes from Norway. I just want to say that I am ready to support you on Patreon. You are something as rare as an intelligent and humble KZbin reactor, and it is precisely people like you that I am looking for. All of us who love music want to share the music we love with others. People like you have created an opening for the rest of us, a window where we can provide a little more attention around excellent artists who are unknown to many, and we are ready to support people like you economically. I suggest you create a separate category on Patreon where you respond to music your followers request. You have so many followers that you can easily ask for 10 dollars or more for a song request a month, and more for 2 or 3 songs. I have a particular band in mind for myself, and you have already responded to their big hit, 'Take on me' by a-ha - and you expressed that you liked what you heard. The band has followers all over the world, and many say that their music has helped them through difficult periods in their lives, which is also true for me. I wish you the best. Take care of yourself, and make sure to take your time as a young man to live and thrive outside of this virtual reality, too.

Hey Daniel. It was instructive for me to hear you describe the listening patterns for your reaction videos--people skip to the songs, listen in high percentages, then quit listening when analysis starts. It seems to me that a lot of us older people like watch reaction videos by younger people because it makes us feel vital; it validates our musical tastes from years gone by. It lets us leverage your youth so that we can steal a little of it and feel a little young again. I really like your reactions, and I like your post-song analysis. But you're doing an honors English-level exegesis for an audience who may be largely looking for "Cool, he thinks this song rocks!" and nothing beyond that. And it looks like you have arrived at a point where that's no longer giving you what you need (shades of Roger Waters and his audience and The Wall between them). That's a tough nut to crack. You already said that you knew the formulaic way to have a more commercially successful channel (over-the-top facial reactions, pretty girls in bikinis, etc), and that you've rejected that in favor of something more pure--just my interpretation of your words, please forgive anything I got wrong. And this is happening against a backdrop of lots of personal and family issues and stresses. Anyone who is 18 going on 19 is likely to be facing big life changes, no matter their situation, but you seem to especially have a lot of negative things converging at once--more than your fair share. And I feel for you, man. I don't know how to say that to a stranger on the Internet without sounding completely fake, but I do feel for good people when they're going through a hard time. That's part of what it means to be human. You mentioned that when you were 15 or 16 (and I'm paraphrasing here, because I don't recall exactly what you said), you tried to be nice to everyone, tried to please people, to do what's right. And you're losing a little of that. I'm in my 50's now, and most people who know me would never believe that I was very similar to you when I was 15 or 16. They'd be surprised, because these days I comport myself as a grizzled, calcified middle aged guy. Somewhere along the line, in lots of little fits and starts, you start to understand when people are burning you, using you, being disingenuous, and so on. You start to figure out when it's worth giving benefit of the doubt, and when it's a waste of time. As a result, your outlook changes, and your processes change. And when someone comes at you with some form of jackassery or another, you can dispense with Roberts Rules of Order and societal expectations and jump straight to "get bent, loser". I see this same thing happening with my college-aged daughter. She's spent a lifetime of being polite to some people who really haven't earned that benefit and it looks to me like she's had about enough of it. This is a hallmark of an intelligent person. Anyway, I'm not trying to predict your future or say that your arc will bend in this same direction. But if it does, it doesn't make you a bad guy, just a little seasoned and toughened. And there's still plenty of nice guy to go around for the good people of the world. You've shared a little about yourself and about your situation. Still, I don't know you--none of us who watch you really know you. Because of that, and because I can't tell the future, it would be really inappropriate for me to give you a rah rah speech about how things are going to turn out fine for you. I hope they do, and I think there's every chance that better things are headed your way. But from what little I do know about you, I can at least recap some indisputable facts that are hopefully comforting: You are obviously a highly intelligent person. You care a great deal for your family, and it shows. Your family cares about you and encourages your questioning nature (think Rush Freewill vis-a-vis your Christian familiy--that episode). You love music. You love the arts. Whether you ever attend university or not, you're getting a broad-based liberal arts education. And you're ambitious--you just told me that and it's also evident. That's a pretty damn good set of characteristics and traits to take out into the wider world. Whatever you end up doing with this channel, you'll always have the music, and I think that's so much more important than a lot of people seem to think. Recorded music is just over 100 years old. You've learned a significant portion of that music--you're up in 99th percentile range I'm sure. And your love of music may never pay the bills--it doesn't for most people. But it's still something of great worth in my opinion. Aside from that, you have a good toolkit to take with you into the world, and that should stand you in good stead. Please do keep in mind that time just keeps on going forward and that you will have a different perspective on a different day. I wish you well.

Thank you for sharing that with us Daniel. You don't owe apologies, because you have spent years providing people with entertainment and interesting commentary, that they can watch or not at their choice. People choosing to watch doesn't give them a right to expect you to take any notice of them or for you to respond to them. Its about what you want from it, if producing videos becomes a chore, then you are not getting what you want from it. It is after all a formula you came up with as a child, so change it, it's for you to decide. Even with Patreon, so long as you are honest about what you are offering on there it is people's choice to subscribe, I suspect quite a lot are just subscribing to support you on you tube, and it's a minority who are demanding to be entertained. Keep it going so long as it supports itself, if it is costing you money then drop it is my advice. With what you have said about money, you need this to at least support itself, because it can, and you don't need to be all clickbaity to do it. Just don't convince yourself that it's some how distasteful or wrong to generate some money, you deserve it. You are a very fine young man Daniel, who is a great communicator and has developed a whole lot of skills doing this, and has a very clear and mature view of life. Take all that and build on it, your future is bright.

Welp, as I keep heading down the comments, the support I'm encountering is extremely heartening. I did not expect there to be this many positive or understanding positions on the stuff I said. As for Patreon, while I do like the sentiment, I really can't in good conscience charge people without publishing anything. The main reason I'm suspending this month is due to my not really uploading anything for well over a month. I think I'll start having a little more time in October and November and I'll probably reinstate it till new year. When spring comes around, I'll need to make some pretty big decisions. Just you, in a room, talking to us, was powerful. I'm 68 years old so rock and roll and I are roughly the same age. I've been a music fan my whole life and seen many of the great musicians and songwriters of my era. I could send you a massive list of song recommendations. I watch your channel to see your thrill of discovery that mirrors what I felt the first time I heard The Doors, Steely Dan and a thousand others. When you react to a song I love, it makes me smile. You're obviously a bright and talented young man with a passion and a good heart. But equally you are pragmatic and reasonable. I won't say these traits will take you far, but they will definitely support you in both good times and bad. Nurture your passion, it will keep you sane.

First of all, birds never were real. :) Ok, with that said, I very much hope you get a chance to read what I would like to say to you here: You were the very first creator I ever subscribed to on Patreon (if that is the correct terminology). I want to let you know that I personally have never seen it as "I am paying you to create for me and you therefore owe me x number of creations per month/year" or anything like that. Hell no. Mostly, I see it as "This creative person has very kindly and generously chosen to share a piece of themselves with me in a way that not only entertained me but also opened me to 1) new ways to look at things I already loved and 2) new things that I was not already aware and may have never otherwise experienced, and I want to support this person as a thank you for choosing to share that piece of themselves with me and the world and help them be able to keep doing that." Art - and I see what you do as art - can certainly entertain, but it can also teach and guide us about ourselves. Your art has done this for me. And as such, I see you more as being a teacher and a guide to me than my entertainer. And the amazing thing is you have been able to teach and guide me without us every really interacting directly - rather, you have taught and guided me just by You Being You and You Creating For You. But here is the thing:I firmly happen to believe that taking pauses, taking breaks, taking time to read the universe and decide what you need to do next - these to me are 100% part of the creative process. Very important parts, in fact. Creativity and passion are batteries - sometimes they need to be recharged. This is not a failure. This is not a weakness. It's part of the process. And I, as a person who chooses to try to help support your process - because I have appreciated and benefitted from the results - believes that ALL parts of process should be supported. High output, low output, no output - whatever. Artists will all have peaks and valleys. Both are necessary components of the process. And I, personally, do not feel that the valley parts of the process need any less support than the peak parts. If anything, they might need more! So all to say: I do not feel you need to apologize or feel bad for times when your output is low or you simply haven't been able to "deliver" as much content as you would like, and I certainly never felt that you needed to pause my Patreon support. It saddens me to hear that some of your other supporters have been angry about your valleys. (And it angers me that others have sent you terrible messages, let me tell you!) But I wanted to try to let you know that at least this one supporter has had no problem with it at all. You are not a Reaction Machine that I feel I insert money into and content comes out the other end. You are a creative human being who chooses to very kindly share their art with the world at whatever pace they can, and I for one appreciate and hope to support that. Thank you, and. I look forward to whatever you choose to share with me and the world in the future.

Hello Daniel, my name is Don. I can understand your determination to make entertaining and informative videos. And I also understand your dilemma. It's hours of frustration and doubt, and that's just the editing. I hate to see you in this state because you do make videos that are entertaining and informative. I'm 66 years old and really appreciate the way you dissect the song and research its meaning and try to understand the artist and his reason for making that song. Most reactors just listen to the song and ask its viewers to research it for them but you research it on the spot which makes it legitimate. If you need to take a break, do it. If you need to quit all together, which I hope you don't, do it anyway. Just know that your approach to reaction videos is fresh and appreciated.

My view is that your struggling with the transition from teen to young adult with all the expectations that implies . The good news is that the secret I’m about to reveal will help … everybody goes through this Daniel . It’s overwhelming, all the new pressures and demands and worries of the adult world and I totally get it , I felt the exact same on my 20th birthday when I realised I was no longer a teen, it’s totally normal to be burdened by all this , but it gets better as you get older . As for the internet , it’s a wonderful tool for the balanced individual but a fearsome weapon in the hands of bullies and sociopaths … you can’t control that but you also don’t need to apologise to complete strangers who feel they are entitled to your time or your attention , people like that ? Fk them … don’t have anyone in your life of whatever hue who don’t have your best interests at heart , that’s how I live my life and I’ve managed somehow to make a small success of my life and I judge that by how balanced and content I am at 60. I wish that for you too. Good luck son 👍🏴

Just today realized today "reaction videos" were an entire category. Which probably shows i don't get to KZbin much. I wandered here as i do when looking up music performance or music that has been referenced or influenced other artists i know. Basically a rabbit hole between wikipedia and KZbin today. Through that i saw 2 of your videos and liked your presence and delivery. I had at an early age sought out music magazines and reviews to find out about music that wasn't necessarily on "the radio" or mainstream. I guess i see that element in your videos. Would like to see some of what you recommend and why type analysis. In other words there's more to music fandom than reaction vids. Besides your own musical work you have a talent for broadcasting or presenting and hosting content. Maybe podcasting or finding some like minds to collaborate with in the future. It's definitely hard at times balancing a love of art and keeping or attracting a regular audience but it's that love and desire to share ideas about art, musical or otherwise that can be the real contribution. You will find your own way. I will be checking out your other content. Also i like many can identify with some of the struggles you mentioned. I have definitely been through similar things and thoughts. Plus COVID era. Which actually may have been the lighter part of my last 2 years. Regular life can sometimes throw ones mind into a tangle that feels like you're in a Houdini water torture escape. Keep creating in whatever form that brings you meaning. JX

You have also introduced me to some music that I had not come across before, thank you. I wish you well with whatever you decide to do with your life in the future.

Hope you're ok. You seem like a sweet person. Take care.

Being so young and vulnerable when you first started worried me. The "Normai people" are grateful. You got us through the worst years of our lives. Just wanted to let you know that you're not alone and that we care. There are crazy people out here... Now you know the sad truth. Welcome to the wild west of Internet Land. You're brilliant, articulate and, very sweet. We're proud of your growth. Just, don't let this suck you down a hole. There's a whole world out there behind the curtain. I'm an old hippie traveler. No regrets. A nurse by trade. I could go anywhere. And DID. I don't know if you're in college! None of my business. Please find your joy and go after it. What you have done so far is remarkable. It's not easy to do. We understand. It's just that (I'm being selfish) I want you to go DO MORE THINGS. Run, jump, play and experience life. Take chances. It sounds like I'm telling you what to do... I'm 68. I am telling you to rip down that curtain and run to your next life. This present one served a great purpose for you. I've listened to this 3 times. You're ready for your next adventure. Go do it. Much respect and thanks and a big hug, Lisa

Daniel you remind me of my son who loves music and plays and composes music too. He is about the same age as you. By watching you, time to time (as today), a few years now, I had the chance to relive moments I spent with him, showing him the kind of rock music that I grew with. Mostly, Jethro, Yes, Genesis. I wish you to be healthy, happy and well motivated with good things in your life. An...old friend 👌

You are super brave to put out such a vulnerable video. Sending hugs and prayers your way. I’m sorry you and your family have been going through hard times. I pray that things turn around. I think one thing that drew me to your channel is that you are honest and not over-the-top with your reactions. Honesty seems important to you. I can appreciate that, as it is very important to me also. I would rather my videos be 100% true to me and not “faked” or “staged.” That is why I connected to your channel initially and still come back to it. I see a lot of my own personality in yours. I hope you have a good birthday. I remember being nervous about things when I was about your age. Worrying if everything would work out, etc. Just some free advice from someone with about 9 more years life experience than you have, keep being you and working hard. Things will get better. I for one think you have a bright future ahead. Hang in there, Daniel! 😊

Thanks! Daniel, I sincerely apologize for taking 11 days to watch this video. Last night, I was thinking that I had not seen a notification for a video from your channel in awhile so I went to your channel to find this. Just awful your channel got hacked but I am confident you will turn that terrible act into something positive. While you have plenty of life issues to deal with, as we all do, you still put your subscribers and patreons at the top of your concerns. This demonstrates you have great empathy, a quality I have admired about you since discovering your channel. One of the things I enjoy most about your channel and your reactions, is I learn a lot. You take the time to research and discuss the music we enjoy. I also learned plenty from this video. Thanks for detailing the stats for watch time on KZbin. No wonder KZbin makes watch time the highest weighted variable for their mysterious algorithm. If a content creator could magically get each viewer to watch all their videos in their entirety, then KZbin would recommend that channel frequently. I have a suggestion for you and up to you to act on it. Many reaction channels make their reaction videos during livestreams then cut each reaction out of the video of the stream. They ask for donations from viewers to react to their requests. I think (not sure) that process would save you time for producing reaction videos and of course you would be getting paid for your work. I expect you would maintain the same approach of conducting research and reading the lyrics. Bottom line, Do what you love to do and if others find value in it, so much the better. Do your best to ignore the haters as they will always be part of life. Remain confident and hopeful and I am certain with all the skills you are blessed with, your dreams will come true.

I just want to say I am more than three times your age and have watched your videos quite a few times although not as frequently as I would have liked to. I think what you do is extraordinary not just because of good music, but most importantly because of your personal and thoughtful communication ability. I don't know very many people your age with the ability to communicate as effectively as you do. I don't know what your ultimate goal is but I could certainly see you in a talk show of some kind, perhaps radio, as you have such unique perspectives on various musical topics as well as topics on life. This video was special and I have not seen anything like it, but it kept my attention from beginning to end because you spoke from the heart. I am sorry you experienced some negative things on your Channel because certainly you don't deserve it. On the other hand, I guess it's part of public endeavors where you expose yourself to positive feedback and negative criticism. You have to let the negative bounce off although if there is something constructive in it, then utilize that to your advantage. I know you will be successful in anything you do and certainly you have your priorities right when you talk about family and health. Most 19-year-olds don't have that type of maturity. Thanks for everything, and know that you provide a valuable platform that you can utilize not only for music, but other life topics. Peace.

I don't know why birds never were real, but anyway... I found this channel because your reactions are unique. I do watch the dissectional part, but only when I like the song and think it's interesting to dissect. When I don't like the song, or think it's speaking for itself, I stop watching the video at some point. I had been a patreon for a while, but didn't get what I expected out of it and quit (that is a me-problem, not a you-problem, to be clear). Back then on patreon, I thought about contacting you directly, but I didn't - being on the internet for some decades now, I was quite sure that you'd be besieged with messages. There were people in the chat boasting about how much they interacted with you, which I didn't really buy. Anyway, I'm sad, but not surprised that some people contacting you are demanding and intrusive. I'd say "just don't pay attention to these people", but I know that's now how it works, and I guess that you'd not be you if you could just ignore that kind of stuff. Just be aware, there are many more people who like and appreciate what you're doing here, even without expressing it through mails or messages, or demanding anything from you personally. I'm among them. It sucks, that in a rich country like the US falling ill for a few months almost inevitably is connected to additional existential economic problems, at least when you are not well-off. I hope your father is better now. If you discontinue patreon, you should consider giving us the opportunity to support your channel directly via paypal, gofundme... I guess you already considered it? Didn't do it because it seems like begging? You might reconsider. People who give money that way should know that they are not to expect something in return. You have no reason to feel obligated to do anything in return, and you should put that in a disclaimer as well. But by all means: Your well-being is so much more important than our entertainment. So, cut off everything concerning youtube that makes you feel bad. If that means we'll lose some disport and joy, that's such a small price for you not being damaged.

Hey Daniel. I just found your channel maybe a month ago & was so impressed with your intelligence, talent & creativity. I’ve thought so many times while watching your content on your other channel that you could really make it as an actor & a musician. I’m sorry you’re carrying such a heavy burden right now & I hope it helps to know you’re not alone. Most of us are struggling right now. At the beginning of the year I gave up my life in my home town to move to a bigger city. I love it here but it really has been difficult with the economy tanking like it has. I guess I’d say keep chasing your dreams & don’t be afraid to try new things, places, etc. People who like & support you will still be here if you decide to make some changes. We’re all just music lovers like you & at the end of the day it’s music that sees me through the tough times. Sending good vibes your way. You’ve got this!!

Howard Stern's (love him or hate him) success only begun once he spoke honestly and real to his audiences. 4) Thank you for your time, product and skills. Do hope you do a "Dissectional" of Beatles /Let It Be/ soon - you may find comfort in that song. *Do What You Love, and the Money Will Follow* - ya, corny but true! P.S. Then in September his channel gets compromised, which is really sad & shocking. Now Daniel’s taking time from song reactions. No Live Streams, I look forward to those on weekends are non existent now. That’s frickin sucks. Like he said, he hopes things will get back to normal by the New Year, in January 2023. I hope things get easier for your family very soon. I will say that you owe us (your viewers) absolutely nothing, not even this heartfelt video explaining what you’re dealing with, though your feeling compelled to make it is just further evidence of the thoughtful young man that drew many of us to join the Legion. Do what is right for you and your happiness. If the value and enjoyment you get from the channel is consistently less than the time and effort it requires then it seems to me it’s an easy choice to call it quits.
