UPDATE: I have now owned this map for a month and have explored almost half of it, which is a monumental effort! (you can do this stuff when your single/no kids) No shit, I literally took a P-47 and covered all of the English country and now working my way down from Dunkirk. I check interesting points against real maps and photos of the time (when I can find them) and like Cap said they have included insane amounts of historical accurate detail and unless you go looking, most will never be seen by human eyes. Amazing and great fun. One nice benefit is while you're exploring, you will see something that provides inspiration for a great mission. I have a notebook full of ideas and map coordinates. I wish my editor skills were better, but that too just takes time.

This map is absolutely beautiful! :D Very very well modelled! Even the river Thames. Gravesend and Dartford was there. This is where I lived before. Where I spent my first 4 years in UK from 2010. So nicely modelled. And yeahh Portsmouth... Where I first time saw a modern military vessel, the Type 45 Destroyer, and I am never going to forget that moment. Well done for the modders!

Beautiful map and awesome tour, Gents! I could really hear your excitement while cruising Britain, Cap. Not a complaint, but for personal reason wish that they had extended the map a bit further north -- my uncle flew B-17's out of the big base that used to be there in the Sudbury area. And Cap, you are absolutely correct that on Google maps you can see the imprint as clear as day! -Zup

Back in the day 400 years ago in Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator (CFS) we had a Squadron with ALOT of members. We did nav training, combat training (dog fighting), bomber training, we all got taught how to use the ancient bombing computer even though most of use where only ever going to drop bombs from our fighter or escort the bombers. We did 6 hr+ missions escorting bombers to Europe from bases in southern England. We also used to race P-51s from the likes of Biggin Hill to Paris, fly under the Eiffel Tower and try to make it back (and all sorts of silly variations). Was awesome, but it's so much better today. DCS is excellent and IL2 has gotten so much better over the years (still in my mind the best WW2 sim). BTW I'd like to see more air races, and I hope you feel better soon Cap. Good luck with the new family!

The Fortress at 10:13 is Hurst Castle one of Henry VIII's gun forts much modified in the 18th-19th centuries and now (mis)managed by English Heritage. In January 2021, local media reported that the castle was in urgent need of repairs due to coastal erosion and the wall of the eastern wing partially collapsed on 26 February 2021. At 15:29 you overfly Portchester Castle the longest used fortification in Britain having been built as a roman fort then having been refurbished by William the Conqueror. 23:20 is Newhaven Fort, one of the Palmerston Forts, built on the recommendation of the 1859 Royal Commission to defend the growing harbour. It was the largest defence work ever built in Sussex.

Minor point 41:40 The Royal Naval Dockyard is at Chatham, not Rochester. Active 1567-1984. HMS Victory (Admiral Nelson's flagship at the Battle of Trafalgar) was built there. It is often used as a film set and movies such as The Mummy and The World is not enough (James Bond) were filmed there. I temporarily lost my parking space when they were building the set for The Mummy!

While bored one beautiful clear day while flying from Edinburgh to Southampton we had a head count of all the airfields we could see operational down to just scars. We made it to 78 visible from the flight deck and reckoned we missed quite a few. It really is amazing how many were built, you can spot the difference between the USAF and RAF ones, RAF usually had 3-4 dispersal fields around each main base. In your vid thats amazingly detailed in the Bournemouth area. Am looking forward to the new map and exploring it properly (Spit)

I blew up my house! Such fun! And then I thought - people are flying under the Tour de Eiffel. I was just in London and flew under the Tower Bridge, why not ‘do’ the Tower and make it a set? I found out why. I’d chosen as my steed the F-16 as it has excellent visibility and makes the southern Channel crossing a lot less boring. And then I flew towards the gap under the tower at Mach 1 point something. It turns out things look really small then very very rapidly look really big and then it all goes black. I think I’ll do it in a spitfire next time.

About Paris: - The building identified as "government building" is indeed Louvre museum. (Governement siege is actually a really small Haussman type building which cannot be seen by plane I'm afraid.. and Presidential palace at Elysee is down Champs Elysees street, on the other side of Grand Palais ;) we can it briefly in 53:57, place with a relatively big garden). - The one down Champs Elysees identified as Louvre are Grand Palais & Petit Palais. All other things are right ;) (and Invalides now is a war museum)

One of the earliest Chain Home sites was in Orkney protecting Scapa Flow. We had it as a target in the Grim Reaper Scapa Raid mission/video. This is a great map. Will be interesting to see how it works re-running some of our GR Channel map missions, e.g. Caps favourite the Amiens raid . The Normandy 2 map is supposed to be compatible with missions built for the original Channel and Normandy maps, and users with only one or other of the old maps should be able to fly with others using the new Normandy 2 map. That is a real achievement . Something specific to test ?

Quick request, if you have time, sir. Just listened to son (one of your subscribers) and hubby YELLING at the TV in regards to [1990's Re-fitted Iowa Battleships vs Kirov Battlecruisers (Naval Battle 64) | DCS]. Very loud! Think we had some plaster dust off the ceiling... What I gather is that metaphorically, the Iowa has better "shotguns", and the Kirov has better "sniper rifles" (missiles), and the Iowas hung out of optimal range of their OWN guns and IN range of the (rather unlimited number of) Kirov missiles. Walls are still ringing--all that yelling. PLEASE rerun this battle with the Iowas doing a jinking sort of Shotgun Ape run, using that agility to head full speed at the Kirovs with guns blazing... If nothing else, it won't be boring! (Probably will also be the shortest video you make, one way or the other.) Thanks so much! They love y'all's work!
