Flight sims, apart from military, are inherently boring. A bit of titillation of the graphics but this is seriously it. I’ve had MSFS from away back to ‘95. Short haul is more fun and that’s it. I eventually went into milsims and did it for over 20 years. The best move I ever did. I couldn’t go back to this ever, but it’s fun watching a quick vid etc. btw, FSims were the only reason in the day to upgrade your PC annually, I kid you not. There wasn’t a game made that taxed it, pure and simply because 3D was in its infancy with 3DFX and Voodoo cards (SLI) just breaking the ground

This was actually one of the aircraft I was most looking forward to. I have Fenix a320 lineup, the iniBuilds a300 for cargo, and we have some great turboprops, like tbm 850 etc….but really wanted a good midsized cargo.

It isn't intuitive but to slow down you want to increase the prop. This adjusts the pitch of the prop, making it bite into the air more thus actually acting as an air brake in a way to slow you down. Most descent procedures are full prop for this reason, it helps you to slow down more.

Carenado does a great job on their visuals for sure. I have a few of their offerings in 2020 and really haven't flown them as much since Black Square came out with their analog addons. I do need to jump back in the Mooney though. Definitely would love a 408 in 2020 (for those FedEx feeder routes) but guess I'll just have to wait until I upgrade to 2024.

I used to work on Caravans. The prop levers are advanced before starting the engine. And they are pulled back prior to shut down. Taxi speed is regulated by using a wee bit of beta, instead of riding the brakes. You set the torque before starting takeoff roll. If you exceed any parameters the onboard computer will record it and when the data is downloaded by maintenance, any exceedances will be taken note of. BTW, on the Caravan, full reverse thrust amounted to about 200 horsepower. You could back up from a full stop.

Done a couple flights on this aircraft, I quite enjoyed it. Haven’t had my issues with it so far thankfully. I don’t remember having the frequency swap issue, I’ve done a couple flights into KSEA using the ILS. I do agree with you on Carenados approach, I just want something bug free and reliable. A couple of the aircraft they have done for 2024 has mostly achieved that (this, the Titan, PC12) but others like the PC24 are completely unusable (or have some glaring issues like the SAAB 340).

Happy to see you are using Lugano airport Jonathan. Really just like the real one. I was flying gliders from the nearby LSZL Locarno airport. I have many friends in the local flight school and I have take off with GA planes from there. You have flown a fantasy traffic pattern of course. The real one is amazing going around the Generoso mountain and over the city center. Stunning wiews.Very demanding approach. The MD jet of course cannot land in Lugano. It is mainly GA and small business jets airports. There have been Saab 2000 in the past but now it is all over. Don't fly over the mountains around the airport. At week end they are full of gliders from Locarno and mostly those from Calcinate del Pesce ( stock MSFS glider airport) that try climbing over there to reach the higher swiss mountains. Look at charts, I don't want to find myself face to face with you! Years ago the Saab2000 pilots used to ask to the controllers " there is "plastic" around the airport? 🤣🤣🤣🤡🤡🤡

On Opentrack (using tobii) you can assign a keyboard key to hold (stay fix at your viewing angle) and also enable/disable it without going through the Opentrack app. I haven't configured it for fs2024 yet...

Need to adjust your axis on head tracking. I minimized movement to eliminate the issue with tilt when looking left or right as well

Great video as always. I couldn’t get it started using the built in EFB checklists. Several items you figured out are not in the checklists, including turning on the ignitions and fuel boost pumps. The ignitions are in the panel section labeled ice protection. I found that a bit confusing. I also found the Nav frequency swap problem. I also found that the Nav frequency set knob wasn’t working correctly. I tried to set 110.70 but the full mhz portion kept jumping from 109 to 111 skipping 110. I’m assuming these are new sim teething problems, and will get ironed out. All in all you’re right it is a very cool inclusion in the new sim.

I noticed you keep saying that the middle two levers are for propeller speed...and then on the descent you pulled them back to "slow down the propellers". I'm pretty sure this is incorrect. In any twin engine that I've flown in the real world, these two levers change the pitch of the blades...and normally, once at cruise altitude, you would pull these levers back to lower engine RPM (not prop RPM) to improve fuel economy. Then, on final approach, it is normal to push both levers forward again...so that, if you have to go missed a climb out, you have max thrust. I'm surely not trying to be a know it all. Just wanted to point this out. I should add that I've not flown a 408 in real life....so maybe I'm wrong for this aircraft. 😁

I couldnt figure out the keybind for the condition levers. Condition doesnt move them. Prop pitch was no issue

That HUUUGE door is because the 408 can load cargo containers that were designed for freaking airliners! I love this plane so much. I kept hoping someone would release a good sim of it in 2020 and I was both super excited and super depressed when it was announced for 2024 made by Carenado. I don't CARE about visuals. In 2020 I never once saw the outside of the airplane, and in 2024 I only see it during the walk around. I don't even care so much that they do simple flight models because I 100% agree with you there. What I DO care about is systems depth and Carenado is like "What systems?" They don't care one whit about any simulation depth, about making everything work. Half the buttons and switches don't work on their planes, the other half don't do what they're supposed to or just pretend. THAT is why I hate Carenado. From what I hear the PC-24 is completely broken. I do know the PC-12 NGX had a laundry list of bugs just in what I've personally found not to mention others.

Simple, this plane is not ready yet. Full of bugs, the autopilot doesn't work, couln't bind condition levers. Impossible to fly in VR, you need to close your right eye to hit any knop. The flying charasterics are resonable though.

The C408 is pretty good for a Carenado release, which are usually pretty bad. The only problem I have with it is the flightplans wont automatically import to the FMS. You have to manually go thru the very hard to navigate menus and import the simbreif fligtplan. I know thats now how it works IRL, but I like the convince of having the plan easily import from the simbreif dispatch on the new 20204 tablet

Hmm, that two-button press for hdg knob and others is very annoying for those of us in VR who are using various hand-tracking workarounds where we have things we click to activate things. I would like them to provide that as an option we can turn off. I think many people’s frustration with Carenado isn’t necessarily related to less complexity but more related to having inaccuracies in their systems modelling which can make thing unusable - much like what you experienced with the nav/com frequencies. That same bug would happen on older releases for FSX and I think even X-plane. It’s frustrating to experience that repeatedly because eventually you have to ask, “qa, why is this not part of your test-case template?” I like Carenado very much but when I see G1000 in the literature my first thought is “oh boy” as opposed to “Oboy!”

I'm not sure if the two button press is actually a thing, or just that he has the input mode set to the locked controls. That's how those style controls work on every plane, you click left to lock the control, then right click is the "push in" and middle click is the "pull out" The same group made the PC-12 NGX which I've been using in VR and have not needed to do that funky button pressing AFAIK, though there are tons of other bugs.

I'm sorry the heatblur effect on this and the PC-12 are absolutely horrible and quite unrealistic. If I saw something like that pouring from my engines I would instantly shut down because it's getting ready to melt down. They need to tone that effect down and fix the main rotor animation on the R-66(it's backwards)

Disappointing? I think they're excellent value for money. The very annoying frequency transfer bug on the G1000 isn't down to Carenado. It's sim-wide at the moment.

Carendo? Quality? Honestly, only when it comes to the visuals. Systems, sound, flight characteristics and everything in-between, they're absolutely AWFUL at. Don't get me wrong, they're GREAT if you're looking to "dip your toes" into payware. If someone wants something pretty, cheap and not study-level, I'll recommend Carenado 100%.....but, they're steadily declining compared to the competition.

That's pretty much exactly what I explained in the video :) I think saying they are declining is a bit unfair - they target the mass market - not those looking for the most authentic experience. There's room for both audiences :)
