First Look Barbiano: Italian OverCooked Pasta Design

Entering Closed Testing in 14.0 Patch, the Barbiano the Italian Cruiser made Destroyer has one of the most cooked designs we have seen by WG. Let me know what you all think of the ship! All stats that are shown are subject to change!

The big deal with the Barbiano is that she is NOT a "DD with a citadel". The Atlanta, Smolensk, the Pan-Asian cruiser tech line, and all of the other "DDs with a citadel" all have citadels, because, despite all those DD-caliber guns, they are all still cruisers, while the Barbiano, as a DD, does not have a citadel. The Barbiano, with her cruiser health pool, but no citadel to hit, will be tougher than any of the previous anti-aircraft cruisers.

2:15 , I think technically speaking the 2 guns in the front and back *not* on the centre-line of the ship count as wing turrets, despite being able to fire straight forward or back.. so SAT takes the w there xD

Don't get me wrong, I love Italian Ships however, you'd think that if you're going to build an Anti-Aircraft CL/DD, you would build one that can actually shoot down aircraft. Call me crazy.

I wish they stayed true to the concept of the ship as it being an AA ship. I agree with SAT that 4.6km AA range is too small.

So does Hector, despite the brochure literally said she's dedicated anti-air ship, the in game AA power is Atlanta at best (GG 2 tiers higher for that bruh)

I’m writing this comment only having looked at the stats in port. The only other dds that could probably scare this thing (and I mean the players playing it) are probably your high-AP-performance dds. Elbing, Z-42, Druid, Vampire II, Lushun, and probably ZF-6 with reload booster. Yes this thing doesn’t have a citadel to hit, but as the new highest HP dd in the game (it’s cruiser hardware running dd software), it has too much Hp and SAP dpm for you to waste your time hitting it with HE. The only destroyers that could maybe get away with that are IFHE Harugumo and RB Kleber. Obviously, if you’re in a dd your best off not engaging this thing, torp it if you can, but generally ask your cruisers and battleships to kill this thing for you. And also 8km detect is terrifying for something with this much SAP power. To all my dd mains who play high tier: a new beast is on the water and it’s coming for your soul. Keep your friends, both cruisers and battleships, close at your side.

As Flamu said in one of his videos, they don't want you to kill planes. If it were like that, their AAA wouldn't be so bad, being a ship conceived as Anti Aircraft, it has none of that, it's just a new SAP spammer.

I guess they should give it HE because to kill something like GK or Any bb with 50 mm plating or against petro where you need fire to kill the target is necessary. The reason why Friesland or Ragnar works because those boats can set fires even though they can't pin entire ship. With SAP you can't set fires so once the ship is saturated, you are basically useless

Superstructure still does exist and doesn't need to always have extremely high pen. Saturation of parts just drop DPM to half.

So, she gets hit with a nerf bat on Day 0, by making her an uptiered AA DD, versus a lower tier AA light cruiser? Man, WG botched this up. They could've dropped her to Tier 7 light cruiser, increase AA range to 12, added DFAA, and maybe Engine Boost, and she would be a nice, fast, Anti-Air Cruiser that could quickly provide a nice AA bubble to an area. Think of a Kidd, but as a Cruiser, and faster. Idk. There was overlooked potential here.🤷‍♂️

In historical ship though it's a cruiser named after Alberico da Barbiano, the first Italian Condottieri. I believe for WG on a actually did as a DD rather a cruiser. Very interesting!!!

So an italian version of a druid (both only get 1 weapon type). 16 guns with 3.2 sec reload. Depending on angles, you might get 12 at the target if you show flat broadside. A DD vs DD engagement will not be fun for the enemy DD.

True, but all an enemy DD needs to do is smoke up and this guns only DD is screwed. There is a LOT of hydro/radar (even radar DD"s) at tier 10 so I feel like this ship will be punished hard most times. And many players know which DD's have torps these days and they will push you. I have a hell of a time in my guns only DD's controlling any parts of the map, unless a ship is dumb enough to let me farm them from smoke.

Honestly I would rather this be a cruiser in game just so it is not taking up a DD slot. I find guns only DD's very hard to use in todays meta, and that is the ones that can smoke up and farm with hydro. Especially at tier 10. Either way, I had assumed she would be a cruiser during the early dev info so I got a lot less interested in this.

It should have at least a 2 second reload, and those are AA Guns... why not have at minimum half of the main gun range vs aircraft? Ect Ect for AA? if they are pure SAP, then the pen should be at least 30mm. they certainly hamstringed this one badly. maybe make this T9, and Jager T10? Then again, 80% of my T10 play is in Clan Battles. lol Random Games are just a crazier version of Co-Op.

@@guilhermecamargo316 IRL it's the sister of Giussano. The Italians figured they were obsolete and wanted to convert her to an AA ship. WG made it a DD for unknown reasons.

Hmm...definitely do NOT play this like a destroyer. I guess play it more like an Austin only it won't be nearly as good as it has no funny button or torps but it does get those Italian smokes so maybe it will be interesting to play.

@@vudinhanphu273 At tier 10 this ship is going to get chewed up most of the time. No hydro, no torps means she has no map control, and she cannot just sit in smoke farming. Today we have a lot of very good DD's with hydro/radar that can do the DD role and still farm hard. I'm sure we will see some crazy games where very skilled players dunk of 40% win rate players, but I don't see them doing that against anyone who knows what they are doing.
