This isn't something you should be happy about, although he certainly should be. As a reviewer and presenter, he should try to be as unbiased as possible, and having companies send him free copies makes that a herculean task. At a minimum, he will start lowering his level of criticism to excuse minor issues that he didn't used to excuse.

So geared up for these. When I got back into comics two years ago, I was surprised/dismayed to see so much of silver and bronze age Batman was either out of print or unreleased. I was still pretty unfamiliar with what was out there for collected editions, but quickly realized that Marvel was doing far and above better work in churning out old content compared to DC. Obviously pre-ordered the Batman book here, the first time I've pre-ordered a collected edition. Might dip my toes in some of the other titles that I'm not super familiar with. Based on this video, it looks like DC has done a lot to make that an easy thing to do.

I’m super excited for this series as it gives me (a new-ish reader) a reason to look into different characters/teams/events that I wouldn’t normally read. Thanks so much for this. I am going to get all of these between this and the Compact Line DC has really got it together with their collected editions. If all that is solicited comes out for this line, this is the best they've done. The highlighted years on the back is much better than numbering them like Marvels Epics

Marvel does both. On the back of each volume is a number and the years in which the stories were originally published. Marvel very boldly telegraphed they were invested in reprinting the entire run of each series (from 1961-1996) by providing volume numbers. I do not have faith in DC that they are doing the same. It appears to me they are just jumping around with no guarantee of 'full runs.' The most suspicious book of all is the "Team-Ups" volume that has both Batman Brave and the Bold issues and DC Comics presents issues (God knows why both are in the same volume). Why aren't each comic getting their own run? They do not intersect in any way beyond published by the same company, DC. Very peculiar, that volume. Marvel would never slap together a volume of, say, 1974 Marvel Team-Up and 1977 Marvel Two-In-One. No, each will get their own series. I just don't get what DC is doing here.

I just think it’s cool that they’re covering everything for these characters in a particular timeframe. I’ll tell you that many new readers don’t care about creators’ runs and personally I’m disappointed with a collection leaves out certain issues. And then you have the problem of having a Batman collection without the concurrent Detective Comics stories which sometimes intersect. This way you get it all. It may be called “Year One and Year Two” but it’s really the first two post/Crisis years of Batman. You can give that to someone and say “start here then keep reading until the modern day stuff” if you wanted.

The Batman book is actually 401-412, annual 11, det 568-579. They shifted the content, it was going to start at 404. Your copy does look like it starts at 401.

I've called gaps or gapifications 'holidays' which comes from both the british english regional word for vacation and from the world of tattooing where a tattoo machine that's seen better days may malfunction and leave breaks in straight lines as if the machine was 'taking a holiday' or leaving a holiday. I've gone through my single issue collection and tried to fill gaps usually with a running list so that I have a reference when im shopping online or in a comic shop and i've always called it my holiday list.

I'm not sure they're using new colors for Batman: Year Two. I think it's the difference in paper stock. The Mando paper stock DC used in the '80s absorbed the ink differently than the stock they use for collected editions today.

I don't get DC's aversion to their Bronze age comics. They have not don't a comprehensive reprint series of ANY of their 1970s long-running titles (Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern, JLA, Legion). The closest they came were the Showcase Presents volumes but those all stopped at or before the 20 cent issues (1972-1974).

And totally derived from the "pulp" heroes such as the Shadow... but I guess since Marvel and DC both co-own the trademark term "superhero" that they only want us to think of THEIR characters and no one else's.

The problem with so much of dc is that much of it predates the marvel age. Those golden age and most of the silver age stories have zero translation to modern readers. These are all nostalgia pieces or pure collector driven unlike the Epics which are all mostly still readable. Having said that …can’t wait to get those Jsa stories

I have been dreaming of DC's Epic equivalent for some years now, so I'm beyond excited of these (I prefer thick trades to omnis). I'm limiting myself to two lines at the beginning, starting with Wonder Woman and The Flash (I want complete DC Finest runs for both). After that, I'm eyeing the Science Fiction line, Doom Patrol, and Legion of Super-heroes, along with 70s Batman and Superman. They have the original colors of Year One, but not Year Two. It uses the "remastered" coloring from the Year Two trade paperback and deluxe edition and also appears to be missing the title pages (with creator credits) for all four issues. Epic fail. I'm also not happy with the Batman mapping, would much rather have seen a chronological reading order. Can't wait to go to my comic shop tomorrow to flip through this for myself.

I would have liked the bulletin appropriate to whichever era is being reprinted but I guess they want some u infirmity on the covers. I recently sold my Legion of Superheroes silver age Omnis because I thought the Bronze Age editions were never coming up but if they reprint the Grell and James Sherman etc Legion comics from the Bronze Age in this format then I will buy them.
