Nice ... Just to mention: the Cabinet Sim does work on the XLR output! Please refer to owners manual Page 2: - CABINET SIM: When using XLR BALANCED LINE OUTPUT (T), this switch offers three different tonal options-a flat, uncolored amp signal without speaker cabinet emulation (OFF); and two impulse response (IR) profiles emulating different speaker/microphone-placement combinations (1 and 2). Put a neodymium speaker in your tube Deluxe, drop weight considerably, but sacrifice good sound. This is the rub in these tonemasters to my ears. The neodymium speakers sucked in the Vox amps when they tried that about 10 years ago too in their modeling amp. Thin sounding speakers.

Eastman guitars...built in China, beat Gibson guitars , built in the US. Both in quality and in price. Sad but true.
@bobkeeler59644 жыл бұрын
EXactly . it should be at least half the price of the real thing. The reason Fender wont make the hand wired "point to point' amps they used to make (which in my opinion are the only true Fender amps) is because they cost too much to manufacture. Now they have a circuit board that is modeling the old "real" fender amps and it's construction is fully automated and they want the same price as a hand wired amp. OK lets give Fender the benefit of the doubt and say that it would cost DOUBLE the price to make the "real" Fender amp today.. Why not make them like you used to and charge double and let the customer decide if they want to spend that much on an amp instead of running all of those customers away by making a cheap imitation of their previous products . All your doing is driving your customer to another manufacture that will make what they want or worse case to a Boutique manufacturer. I just think Fender has consistently made the wrong choice in this matter.

I've watched the indepth behind the scenes Fender video about the design process and I've watched a lot of reviews. These Tone Masters are powerful core 4 computers dedicated and focused to do just one thing, which is to sound like just this one amp. We're so used to modeling amps with smaller processors providing half-assed versions of everything. I've yet to come across a review where they're not amazed at how favorably these compare to the originals with many shocked to find that they may prefer these.

So I work in a warehouse for a certain music chain store (not GC) and I really like fender amps a lot but when i see a dlx reverb come in, I can feel my back giving out. These and the vox combo amps are probably the heaviest amps I've had to lift and thus they generally stay on bottom shelves. These tonemasters on the other hand, still pretty heavy but nowhere near as bad as their tube counterparts. Thanks fender for giving my back a few years of life back :)
@mackey19534 жыл бұрын
I am 65 yrs old and I have a Princeton Reverb, Deluxe Reverb, and Twin Reverb - all stock reissues. The only one that is too heavy for me is the Twin - but it sounds so good that I would replace it with a ToneMaster only if it sounds as good. I use a hand truck to move that Twin around, but I still have to get it out of the car... I had a Vox AC-30 a few years back- it was way heavier than my Twin - I woulds say about 90 lbs vs. 65 for the Twin.

Yeah, I agree. I guess that's why this was billed as a "first look", focusing on the Tone Master, and not a "comparison". A true comparison would have required a '65 DR or more likely a DRRI, anyway, not just a Deluxe.

Couldn’t wait for this review and It was indeed excellent! This is an amazing release from Fender. Just proved to top every modeling amp on the market. What will they come up with next using the intense R & D that went into the tone master series?

Excellent review and amp, I will very likely be buying this model, I have a great sounding tube head now, but then there's the 412 cabinet, or the still very large 212 cabinet lol. And thanks a ton for the awesome lick, 7:25 , one of those super cool licks you can noodle around on during a sound check etc. Awesome.

The amp sounds like it was built for fender guitars, very impressive.

Great video, John! Your review solidified my decision to buy one of these babies. Now what I really need is a tab for your tasty rendition of I Can't Stop Loving You!

They sound great for what they are. For me personally, I already own a Katana 100 and there's not €600 difference in sound. I found the 65 DR genuinely amazing though, and decided to take the financial pain and buy one of those.

I really like the concept and clean it sounded really good. But it began sounding digital the higher the gain. The more you tried to convince me how great it was at higher gain, the more I began to wince. I mostly play a tweed Swart AST and a vintage Champ, so maybe my ears are biased. Great playing. Was wanting more of Wicked Game. Edit: I will say that these would be great for gigging artist, especially country or surf player lugging a Twin around.
