The Sony factory that made the headphones was probably the former Sendai Technology Center in Tagajo, a coastal suburb of Sendai (north of Fukushima), where employees had to construct makeshift rafts to escape the flooding from the tsunami in March 2011. The factory re-opened in 2012 as the Sony Storage Media Manufacturing Corp. but headphone production seems to have moved to Oita, in Kyushu (southwest Japan), according to a Sony Corporation list of manufacturing operations in March 2021.

What's even crazier is that, even if they ARE actually capable of playing 2 Hz, the vast majority of audio engineers will roll off anything below 20 Hz because all it will do is muddy up the audio signal with stuff we can't hear. So it's almost entirely useless to have anything below 20 Hz because all of that stuff is eliminated during mixing.
@kennygaming2082 жыл бұрын
Having the ability to go to 2 hz also means the 20 hz is more easily replaced by the headphones, Kind of like how we can't hear headphones with 35khz but the headphones still sound brighter
@Liggliluff2 жыл бұрын
And even if you have sounds below 20 Hz, if you convert it to mp3, that will cut out that sound anyway.
@bjarkebech2 жыл бұрын
yeah, i remember the time i bought a subwoofer rated down to 18Hz at ±3dB I tried running a 20Hz test tone on it and it sounded like a truck was idling on the street outside, rather than a tone. i think it's just a way for them to brag about the low end response
@tbuk83502 жыл бұрын
@@bjarkebech i mean, that’s kinda accurate to those low frequencies. Once the frequency gets low enough, you can hear the wave going up and down, and it sounds similar to an engine.
@IAmNeomic2 жыл бұрын
@@bjarkebech Yeah, below 20 Hz is when it becomes less of a tone and more of a rumble. Going that low can be useful in some cases, like a movie with an Earthquake scene, but usually the sound engineer will manually synthesize the low frequencies to get the desired rumble effect.

Shouldn't they slowly show signs of aging? The only way headphones can die suddenly are blasting music in it, setting them in a backpack and putting a heavy math textbook on top of them (Yes, I did that on accident in 2012), or chewing on the wires (yes, I did that also). @joemck852 жыл бұрын
I got the Crusher Evos after watching DankPods' video on Crushers. They work both wirelessly, or wired with mic using the cable they come with, or wired without mic using any old random aux cable. (The included cable is just an aux cable that has a mic a few inches from one end of it.) Speaking as an audiophile, the treble is definitely kind of rough compared to my nice IEMs. But the bass is insane. It doesn't sound like these recorded clips of it though -- it's just so much bass that it's causing clipping in the mics in the ears-on-a-stand. The closest analogy I can think of to describe the sound is if you strapped subwoofers to your head. There's a bass slider though, with all the way up being almost nothing but bass, and all the way down being about normal sounding. Around 1/8 to 1/4 of the way up is a good sweet spot if you want a bunch of bass but not so much it eats everything else. Also, if you have an equalizer, lowering 100 Hz (or the nearest slider you have to 100) improves the bass in my opinion, removing some lower midbass that can sound bloated and letting you turn that bass slider higher to get more deep rumbly subwoofer bass. While you're at it, lowering 8 kHz (8000 Hz) by around 3 dB (3 notches on most equalizers) helps if you find the highs grating.

Firstly, Those Sonys have such smooth bass it's beautiful, secondly, I had a pair of crushers in college, probably the very first version of them, and even loving bass as much as I do they were horrible lol. I swapped to a pair of their earbuds because they weren't half bad. I'm no audiophile though so really my opinion on any sort of headphone is moot.

I'd love to hear the XB1000's but ive never been able to find them on ebay etc, I bought Sony XB500's for $79 from Best Buy in 2012 and I still use them today on PC lol. I've replaced the ear pads as they started to flake over time but they otherwise still sound great, also bought a portable headphone amplifier and have it routed from my PC soundcard output, they produce impressive bass but also sound clean (XB500's frequency response 4Hz - 24K / 40mm driver) I can't imagine what the XB1000's bass is like on a larger 70mm driver!

I wasn't expecting to see the Crushers again but I absolutely love them. I recently got the more recent Crusher Evo headphones, somehow the bass on them is MORE ridiculous. I mean, it puts the original Crushers to shame.

You must be mostly deaf for you to love them that much lmao. They're horrendously bad, they cause instant, and i do mean instant hearing damage lmao... The bass is way WAAAAAY overtuned, bro. xD

@@MyouKyuubi Actually, I normally had them at lower volumes. I normally take precautions when using headphones that I know are capable of delivering something so loud. However, when I wanted to experience them at their fullest capability, it would've been for a shorter period of time. Also, I'll admit that the Crusher Evo's are pretty much better in every way. Although, opinions on headphones are highly subjective as DankPods himself says in this video.

@@Gfreak250 same, I normally listen at low volumes but every now and then I'll crank up the crusher evos for a short period of time, or sometimes if I want to rattle that motor I'll crank it up and put it on my temples instead of my ears. So much fun
@Gfreak2502 жыл бұрын
@@GooseCrack Oh, absolutely. Or just set them on a table and watch them go off at full power. Regardless, it's definitely nice having the bass slider as an option. I'd normally have the Evo's at around 50-60% and that's usually enough for a great listening experience in my opinion.

@@AspenFrostt Good that you have another pair of headphones because a drawback about all that bass is you get used to it. Thus, they lose their magic. I’d be curious to see what you think of the Sony Pulse 3D headphones after this. They aren’t especially bassy (see Rtings), but their design feels a bit like a spiritual successor to the xd1000s, with the wide cushions. One neat little improvement is the speaker is angled parallel to your ear in within the cushion, rather than parallel with the cushion itself

That Crusher demo literally scared the crap out of me! Listening through an Aiwa (US) Exos-3 speaker… I’ve never seen the bass radiator work hard to replicate the sound of the Crushers! BTW, if you can find one, I dare you to try the ORIGINAL Aiwa Arc-1! Very, very underrated Bluetooth headphone that just sounds amazing! The second gen ANC version isn’t as good though.
@RPGWiZaRD2 жыл бұрын
+1 on the Aiwa Arc-1. I have a pair and use them for bedtime listening (ASMR especially) and these things have a really clear and natural sound for the price they cost except I find the bass boosted which I found welcome for my needs but it seems like it's almost some compressed processing going on as it hits hard but tight at the same time (I find it does it differently than my non-BT headphones eitherway as it's something you mostly feel rather than hear and I like it), works wonders for ASMR triggers in particular. But these are wonderfully clear sounding in the entire range, borderline too bright for me that likes slightly more warm sounding headphones but the biggest strength they have is perhaps the soundstaging and imaging for a closed pair of headphone, these have sooooo good positioning of sounds I almost believe I'm listening to a pair of Sennheiser HD-600 for how spacious the soundstaging and how accurate the imaging is, particularly good when listening to live shows like hooking up to the TV, it's like you're there in the audience being able to tell from which direction and distance the sounds are coming from when you hear the noise from the crowd. I picked up them especially for the aptX Low-latency mode support which is somewhat rare in headphones. Plus these things are super comfortable. Thet only sound good using as BT headphones though, hooking up the 3.5 mm stereo cable and they sound kind of poor with somewhat muddy midrange and bass and excessive "ringing" to the upper-mids so likely they have EQ'd the headphone digitally for the BT mode like manufacturers typically do these days but they did a superb job with that in that case.

I found a pair of Sony XB500s at Goodwill for $10. The ear cushions were doing just like the 1000s on here. Also the headband was peeling, and leaving a mess. I found some replacement cushions online, but no one had an option for fixing the headband. I finally just brushed the peeling plastic off, by scrubbing with a stiff brush. Underneath the cloth is nice, and looks a bit like felt. They are perfect now. I would not have bought them looking like that, but I listened to them using my phone mp3 player (wow!), and I could not leave them behind.

What you mentioned about the difference between reference and 'fun'. I feel much the same with my reference monitors in my room. And my car stereo. My car doesn't have a sub in it or anything. But it's got amplified alpine DDLinear Split in the front and Type-R 6x9's in the rear.. And they are SO much more fun that the reference monitors. The DDLinear line is pretty good for clarity.. But those Type-R's just go THUD everytime something happens.. it's a good time overall.. If the glass in the car isn't vibrating you're not doing it right...

Been looking at them from when I was in my early teenage years and just wisheddd I had them. 8 depressing years later I got them off someone, but the cushions were effed and the wire had been replaced. I had to then replace that wire because it had broken so I tried to balanced them, but because the previous guy messed up the screw on the inside which holds the mounting point for the wire I tried to mod the casing in the headphones and messed them up completely. I also tried to follow some "mods" on forums that say getting rid of the filtering paper adds to the bass and messed them up more. But even then before I did that I found these weren't very bassy at all.

Hey, Dank. I really appreciate your expertise! Love the videos! I have maybe a tough question for you: are there any high-quality headphone/earphone options for someone with a petite frame and small ear canals? I realize some things simply are not made for petite people, and that's OK, I get it. I'd invest in a pair of children's headphones/earbuds but as you well know, they sound like shit or are extremely quiet. I'm a petite woman and I want to enjoy the wonderful recommendations you've provided in your videos but they are simply too big for my head when I've tested them. I just can't get a seal to appreciate them properly, or they're painful, or simply will not stay on my head. Almost all headphones and earbuds I've ever tried simply don't fit and therefore even high-quality ones don't sound right. Do you have any recommendations? Is there a pair of earbuds you think would work better? Any suggestions would be appreciated. At this point, I'd pay anything to get something that fits and sounds decent.

I haven't used them personally, but Nura (the company that made/makes the nuraphones) have some earbud variants that offer personalized sound. I've heard they sound amazing oweing to that sound personalization and I would imagine (although once again I haven't personally used them) that they can accept just about any earbud-plug you could find online for a better fit. I by no means have sampled the sheer quantity that Dank has but I've seen some absolutely glowing reviews for those nura-buds and earbuds are far more fit-customizable than headphones.
