When I was parting an item in my 3-jaw chuck, the parting tool went under the part and also disloged the bar a bit. I thought maybe a 4-jaw chuck might give me more support in holding some parts (round bar yes, hex not so much) and improve my parting capabilities.
Found this inexpensive VEVOR 4-jaw self-centering jaw around the holidays and picked it up. I decided for the 4-jaw (at this time) to go with the self-centering version instead of an independent version (which I'm sure will show up at some point on the channel). I'm challenged enough to center round stock in the self-centering chuck so I can only imagine the challenges I'd have with an independent 4-jaw chuck. Learning!
BTW, this video was recorded before I had issues with my spindle and the replacement woes. I do believe my lathe works better now...must have been the quality serviceman who did the repair ;-)
