When you show the building at @17:45 It looks like it would disappear into the trees. I bet from 50-75 meters away this is pretty much invisible. Amazing how flexible the bark was at that time.

I love these get togethers of you 4. It makes for more interesting video's most always. Great team work. Yummy food. You probably googled the blood red bird with black wings already. Here is what I found below. *Scarlet Tanagers* Basic Description. Male Scarlet Tanagers are among the most blindingly gorgeous birds in an eastern forest in summer, with blood-red bodies set off by jet-black wings and tail. They're also one of the most frustratingly hard to find as they stay high in the forest canopy singing rich, burry songs.

Very cool to see the Long House progressing from just a bunch of logs and sticks to a full out homely house. Amazing how the indigenous people knew these skills and perfected them throughout the ages. There's so much to learn from them. Glad to see everyone back at the longhouse, I like the debarking tool you got . We had a homemade on made out of a pice of 6” wide sheet metal fastened to a hammer handle.worked good till our fathers saw what we were doing with it. We just striped bark off trees as far as we could reach, no cutting down oooppps.nice cardinal
@booswalia4 жыл бұрын
Only city people think you need to replace a tree in the forest after you cut one down. They need to live in the woods for a while and watch how quickly it encroaches on your dwelling. It's like a slow moving tide that just keeps coming. Enjoyed this one, Doug. Thanks.
@DeanJohnson674 жыл бұрын
we come full circle as older adults! as kids most of us started with in the house tents from sheets, blankets, card board boxes etc. to be "our place" then we get a little older and upgrade to tree forts and then for a while we outgrow that sort of thing and purchase a ready made home only to feel that call to build something ourselves outdoors without all the amenities!

Loved the little bark bear .... very fitting that you used the bark from the Ash tree you absconded ~8^) Yep .... that debarking went quite well, with some very large and thick slabs. Glad to see you guys making good of a very bad situation. The Emerald Ash Borer has wreak havoc across North America. Ash is such a wonderful wood to make so many things .... fishing nets and snowshoes & a host of furniture are just a few of my favorites. Just like the Chestnut trees ... the Ash will be sorely missed. Very enjoyable vid Doug ... always a fun time when you guys gather to build, or to do your camping trips. Hopefully life can return to some semblance of order, and we all get our lives back. Take care and be safe.
