Nice work!! One piece of advice that an old sailing instructor told me a long time ago that stuck was to always have your sailboat in a condition to be "ready to be a sailboat" quickly. If (when) you have engine problems and you're in a bad spot (lee shore or pulling out of the marina, etc.), you'll want to be able to deploy your sails or anchor quickly, depending on the situation. (Prepare your boat ahead of time so this is KISS simple.) I never motor around with my sail cover on - the halyard is always attached to the head of the sail and ready to be hoisted quickly. Secondly, your anchor is a great emergency stop device. Make sure that your anchor can be deployed quickly, and also importantly that your 1st mate can also deploy it quickly, as you'll likely be busy at the helm when this is needed. ;) Just don't ever try and sail where the trees grow and you'll do great!!

Wes, I am a 57 yo experienced sailor and navigator. I just found you As I was searching youtube for sailing videos. I don't watch TV anymore. I am a 21 year retired Navy Quartermaster Submarines (navigator), USCG Licensed Master of vessels of 200 GT, near Coastal and have been working under my masters Licence for 20 years. I'm telling you this because what you are doing is serious business. Your the captain of your vessel and you have a great responsibility to your crew and your vessels safety and health. Sailors in my opinion are much more knowledgeable than power boaters because we are in tune to weather conditions and our vessels. Basically we have to know much more than just turning the key and going. I agree strongly with Jack L and his comment. I came to your videos because I want to learn from you and see if you have anything that I can use to become a better sailor. Get rid of the drunks and the fowl language. Your on the right track. I am noticing already that you are starting to realize that what your doing is serious and you have to pay attention. We had a saying in the Navy " If it looks F**Ked up, it probably is" You probably would have gotten a tow back to the beach If you had practiced good seamanship and edicate. Kate and yourself would benefit greatly from a US Power Squadron safety course or a US Coast Guard Safe Boating Class. Check out Sailing LeaLea, Whitespotpirates, Drake Paragon and Papersailorgirl. All here on youtube. These people are producing excellent sailing videos and they offer entertaining and interesting subjects. Sorry Im so long here but I want you to succeed. Be safe.

Manning Harvey, It's great to have you here! You sound like a knowledgable and very experienced Veteran and I appreciate your feedback. I am in complete awareness of the importance and Kate and my safety. I'm sorry about the drunk antics, these times where I am now leaving were coming on quick and I also wanted to include my family and friends in these videos because they are going to turn into much more than what you have seen already and it is important for me to include close people in something that is so important to me. However, hearing everyone's feedback, I agree, the drunk antics/foul language will be cut out, this is why it has always been edited (not trying to send anyone off their rocker). I apologize if I conveyed irresponsibility, but I can assure you I always drink responsibly on the boat and I am not filming at times of importance, drop the camera for tasks at hand. The more of a handle I have at it, the more I can film, the better these videos will be getting. Hearing what you had to say is definitely helping me understand what exactly I need to show and helping in the overall production. I also now have much more of an understanding of the demographic around here. I hope you continue watching and supporting! Thanks

Wicked Salty As long as the skipper is sober and the crew have a good time then all is good. The reason we have boats is so we can have fun on them. It's not all about harnesses and plotting your course sometimes it's time to have some fun and let your hair down. Obviously all done in safe way as ultimately the skipper is responsible. Swearing is just words, people need to get over it. Don't stop having fun with your friends west and don't stop showing us your fun. The fun police can move along to someone elses channel :)

Wes, I just bought a Cape Dory 22. I love the SAILBOAT related stuff in your vids. Parity is now your woman. Kate is your first mate who happens to be a woman. Film your love, respect, care, and discoveries about both. Edit out drunken benders, risqué language, and stuff not related to sailing. Get a windscreen for your mic or make one from a thin piece of foam and rubberband it to your cam. Have mercy on the techno-nerds like me. Share the details of how you outfit, provision, repair, jury rig, handle rough weather, etc. I can watch PBS if I want to learn about what other people do in faraway places. Limit your vids to you/Kate/Parity/people/stuff about SAILING. Do this and watch your youtube viewer count go through the roof. Get a tip jar like Drake Paragon’s channel to help a little with expenses, but don’t get lost in filming foreign culture like he is presently doing. Party on Dude -- show us more about sailing!

Seems like very good advice. Paying attention to details is what make you stand out from all the other half backed videos out there. Especially NOT posting anything were alcohol is in effect where it can be detected and profanity. You'll shine in a better light all around, if you edit that out before posting. Keep it as though "your" children are watching and you'll never look bad in anyone's eyes. One suggestion, if I may, I've only seen one other private poster do is on youtube to date and that is to add in your titles, Season# and Episode #. Season# being calender year made, etc.. That way anyone who want's to catch up on All your videos ever made can do so easily enough by searching for them with those in the labeling. Any new fan just might want to do so, upping your views over all. Thanks for the video. Cheers mate!

Jack L, Thanks for your opinion. I am happy that you like the sailboat related stuff on my channel. I would first like to talk to you about my perspective about "sailboat related" stuff and moving onto this vessel from what I have experienced so far. Living on a sailboat and transitioning to living on a sailboat is a lot more then just sailing around the bay. The amount of work that goes into moving onto this boat and the lifestyle changes surmount to much more rich content then just sailing around and pushing her to the limits. Life is a journey, this is about that journey. Trust me, I love seeing videos of sailboats underway, nice aerial shots, high tech equipment and everything just as much as anyone else, but in my eyes this channel is about much more then that. This is our real experience to making this transition. There are going to be tons of clips of us traveling, sailing, motoring through the east coast and taking our time learning more and more everyday. I hope that I give you a much more unique, real and relatable experience than the content on PBS. I appreciate your feedback and I'll make sure that I do capture the act of sailing and the action well, but I also promise you that this is also about much more then just that.

sailingsolar Sailingsolar! I'm doing my best to keep this as PG-13 as possible! I know there may be younger crowds watching this, but I am also going to show how it really is. Trust me, there was much more footage that was never included! I hope that I can be as tasteful as possible, while also not completely pretending to be someone I'm not. I have also thought countlessly on how I want to go about titling, naming, tags, google search engine stuff and I felt this way was the best to go at it. I also don't want to have Episode Season, etc because I feel that it is much more linear than that. Ive put a bunch of time in thinking about this, but there comes a time when you need to stop thinking and start doing! Thanks for sticking around and watching, just wait until you see what unfolds!

Wicked Salty Wes, I feel connected to you as a bro because we both just got a sailboat. We both are discovering this means a lot of learning, work, and surprises. So far, you had me rolling on the floor as you were blowing up your tube (my dinghy is a tube)! Thank you for editing out any face shot of this action! Your raccoon eyes sunburn was also hilarious but please remember, you’re the skipper! It’s your job to know that everything required is onboard (NASA uses a pre-launch checklist). As you transition into becoming a liveaboard cruiser, I want to rejoice with you when your well laid plans come together. I want to agonize with you when something screws up. I want to get teary-eyed when you capture the growing love between you and your two women. I want to get scared when Mother Nature throws nasty weather at you. I want to laugh at all the goofy stuff that happens along your journey. I’m known as the electricalpowerguy and want to replay over and over all the intricate installation work, repairs, jury rigs, etc., you perform when outfitting Parity. I want to learn more about sailing through you and Kate. You are correct that life is a journey and with that comes opportunity. Ahhh, if only we could get paid to go sailing…. Your channel may not make you an overnight celebrity, but it just might put you in touch with the right people at the right time. Most all of us curse and get a little crazy (especially during stress and transition into adulthood) but the right people don’t need to see that. To a lesser degree, what others see you do, always reflects back on your mom and dad. I think sailing solar is correct and was merely suggesting that titles (series or episode numbers) will more easily permit viewers to watch your archived vids in chronological order. Party on bro! Show us more!

Wes, I admire you and your crew! You are one of the few Yanks, I see on youtube , who buy a boat and GO for it! The majority of your fellow countryman seem to buy a boat , spend hundreds of years doing it up, spend years on forums, discussing the best way of how to "upgrade the boat" ( whilst it is sitting on the hard ), spend tons of money at West Marine to get the latest gadgets and dream about sailing…. They have just found themselves a money pit. Keep up your good sailing, learn and enjoy, it will be so much more fun than sitting on the hard! And you will learn every day! Have fun and good winds! Hi, i like your video's. Just some advice. Maybe you know it after these months allready. You can download an app for anchoring. It is called gps anchor or gps hold or gps alarm or something like that. You can set the maximum gps deviation from the set location. If the boat will drag achor and you will deviate more then the set distance the alarm will sound and wake you up. Just make sure that the Phone is charged or connected to the charger. Works great.
