As a long time river boater, i have a suggestion for you if you are going to pull off and beach the boat for a bit, at clutch ahead speed, keep the motor in gear to keep the bow into the shore and the stern won't move either. This is something the big river tows do, the tow boats on their own and the river ferries do while loading and unloading the vehicles. This is my first time watching one of your vids, I subbed. I love your boat. I want to get something like this or make one. Be safe out there brother.
@mathewdavis-adventuresandd66433 ай бұрын
That's a great tip. I literally just figured it out on the last trip when Chloe needed to go water a tree, lol. I eased up to a steep bank and just left it slightly in gear, which I think that's the same as "Clutch ahead", correct me if I'm wrong. But, anyways it worked perfectly and kept the bow locked tight to the steep bank. that will be my go to move when she needs to disembark for a few minutes. I'm considering taking it down the Kerr navigation system and I can use all the river boat tips you've got. Thanks.

I've got a 25' sailboat. I have the typical running lights that's 12 volt plus for sitting at anchor I have managed to get oil lamps that's starboard and port colored so when at anchor I'll light those to save battery. Also I got a solar powered garden/sidewalk light mounted on the mast as an anchor light. Best thing about going with the solar is they don't drain your battery and if you dock your boat at the lake it's easy to tell which one is yours. I also thought about getting solar Christmas lights to hoist up the cables at night for added effect. Nice boat by the way 😊

@@mathewdavis-adventuresandd6643 I actually considered using an extension ladder mounted underneath, between the pontoons as a gang plank. Just top the part that extends with aluminum diamond plate. You could run a pulley system to extend and retract by hand or with an ATV 12v winch. You can anchor a few feet away from the shore if its rocky, or rough water, then extend the gang plank to the shore. I'm probably overthinking it. 🤔

A small tube like railing should not impede with shedding water. It would be more likely impede with vision while driving. A small 3 or 4 inch reverse air spoiler ( like the older ones in nascar) across the front leaning forward would go a long ways at keeping water from lapping across the bow if it becomes a problem that is. If this thing has a 6” draft and the sides look to be 24” minimum that’s 18” wave at best to break over the bow, with the exception of an occasional wake from a wake or ski boat not sure if I would take a boat like this on a constant 18” waves.

Well, that’s not too bad little houseboat you got there young man I am very curious. How much does it cost one like that watch you from Southern Alberta Canada 🇨🇦
@mathewdavis-adventuresandd66433 ай бұрын
The price varies greatly pending on amenities and how motivated the seller is. Two were on the market in adjoining states, a 17' footer (original design) for $30k and The Oasis, a limo version coming in just over 21', mid $20k. I watched for months until it hit a price point that I was willing to pay. I picked it up in the teens and happily towed it home. Last I saw the 30k vessel is now mid 20k.

@mathewdavis-adventuresandd66433 ай бұрын
Dang, bug zapper is a good idea. The front and back door plexiglass can be changed out with a screen. Last night my daughter took the houseboat up the creek for an overnighter and she said the bugs were horrible. I just so happen to have a very small bug zapper. Thanks for the suggestion.

@@mathewdavis-adventuresandd6643 Good job by both the designer and the builder! Thanks for your reply, I had searched a good bit online to find one like it all to no avail. Good luck to you and your new boat, it surely will be a great adventure. Here in north Florida where i have always lived, we have a lot of nice waterways to enjoy. Houseboats are popular on the St Johns River, about 300 miles long and in several places more than a mile wide, with a lot of spring runs pouring in fresh clear water from class 1 springs. Camping in a small houseboat like that, one that is trailerable is appealing. All the best to you and yours!

Matthew, that is one beautiful boat. Have question, what are you using for window exterior shade covering?? Love the color scheme. Thanks, Jim. Tucson
@mathewdavis-adventuresandd66433 ай бұрын
Thank you James. There are two different window coverings at least for the sides. There are roll down awnings on port and starboard, plus I have floral patterned curtains that fit every single window on the vessel to include the round port windows. Just a week ago I used the roll down awnings to shield the side window from a heavy downpour. I haven't used the curtains much as it is surprisingly cool inside the cabin if there is a breeze blowing through. A white roof helps a lot also. I like the color scheme also. The desert sand with the green lends to it name very well. Unfortunately that desert tan will have to go. It's extremely hot in Oklahoma summer sun.

We've had Yokies and Pugs that absolutely had to be in a vest or in our arms at all times around water. Most "working dog" breeds though have the ability to swim for a ridiculous amount of time. I live at a lake and its nothing to see one of my dogs jump in the lake and swim across the cove. A distance of 300 yards. They sniff around and then jump back in the lake and swim back to me happy as a lark.

Y'all are an odd bunch. For starters, why aren't your nav lights on top of the roof permanently? Secondly who sleeps through the night at anchor with a 1/4" rope? 1/4". No offense to you or your pet but why on your maiden voyage not really knowing how it'll go would you bring your dog?? 5000 lbs. Good lord. Nevermind what you're truck can haul what does that hull think about weighing 5,000 lbs?? And swimming 200 yards sir to relieve your dog on dark water is pure insanity life vest or not.
@mathewdavis-adventuresandd66433 ай бұрын
Well that's a lot to unwrap, but I'll take the time for you. It's a trailerable houseboat that goes down the highway, that's why the stern / anchor Nav light is not permanent. stern Nav lights for trailerable boats of all makes in the U.S. are removeable. 1/4 anchor rope is what came with the vessel. I was on a very small lake in Oklahoma during the summer with very little breeze especially at night. 1/4 inch is fine for now. That dog, a Jack Russell, can literally swim across the entire lake without so much as a second thought. Many times my dogs have swam out to me while I've run my jug lines in the lake. They just swim circles while I go through the jugs. If they get tired they swim back to the bank. 5,000 lbs is the total weight of the boat, trailer, and outboard. Look up Diannes Rose houseboats, the weight isn't a problem. it drafts only four inches in the back. This is a light weight in the world of houseboats, the primary reason for me picking one. Swimming is swimming. The dark will not hurt you and there was no boat traffic on the lake. Unreasonable fear keep many sitting in their homes. Hope this helps clear up some of your questions/ statements.
