When I was traveling I do it in an old jeep liberty that was purchased for my daughter originally. I take all the seats but the drivers out and have a bed platform I put in it. I like taking my time driving with no real destination kinda like you. But until I'm ready to hit the road again I spend my weekend evenings parked at a local Pilot truck stop facing west watching the sunset and eating dinner. After dark I watch your videos and all the interesting travelers making a pit stop for gas and other things. I understand it doesn't sound exciting, it's not meant to be. It's just relaxing. The empty “wild” Florida space north of Titusville is due to the early days when it was decided to put spacecraft launching facilities there. The whole area was declared National Seashores and protected from development. Security for the launch areas was the idea. Additionally in the earliest days they did not know fully how the rockets were going to behave, and in the event one went out of control and went tearing up the coast there was a safety zone. If you look along the Atlantic side beach areas there are abandoned concrete bunkers intended to protect launch staff observers and photographers. Love your work.

Fl has a law that you can anchor pretty much anywhere, but no law that assures you have access to land. That keeps me from buying a liveaboard boat to live on in the winter. Even if you find a liveaboard marina, there is no guarantee it will be there in the future for you. You're at the mercy of someone else and I don't like that feeling. Just another way to restrict your freedom.

@@backwatersandbackroads Yeah, I know. I live in up-state NY, but from FL. I have followed over the years of the fight between the wealthy home/condo owners in the FL keys and the Miami area, and the boat owners living on the hook.....FREE. FL passed a law favoring the boaters anywhere in the state that want to anchor out. But the law doesn't guarantee access to land. Thus, the signs you showed. I've read stories in FL about a marina being sold and new owners won't allow liveaboards. Now in panic mode, boat owners scramble to find a new marina home......if they can find one. A guy like you, owning a home-base in the UP with little or no restrictions, and traveling when you want, by whatever method you choose is the answer.

I used to live in this part of Florida too. I lived in the Eau Gallie section of Melbourne and worked at offices in Cocoa and Melbourne. It's a beautiful area. Unfortunately the Indian River, Banana River, Mosquito River estuary is not in very good shape these days ecologically wise. Too much run off from yard chemicals, oil and gasoline from roadways and other "non-point" source pollution has done great harm to the sea grasses and other things. Fishing is not what it once was and at times you can get nasty algae blooms. Such a shame. Enjoy your summer back up north. There has been a movement going on for at least twenty or so years to make it hard for boaters to do things like anchor off and bring their Dingy's to shore. It's when they started building all those multi-million dollar mansions and condos all over the place. At one time it was almost like a war of sorts between cruising boaters and owners of those fancy properties. It didn't matter if you had a nice yacht or a boat like yours that was to those people, a "junker." They weren't gonna have boats fouling up their million dollar views. City councils and county commissioners went along with the dictates of the wealthy by doing things like getting rid of many places that had been very popular anchoring sites for many decades once an area got developed and became an enclave for the rich. Money talks, ya know?

I just ignore the signs and go ashore take care of business as quick as I can and get back on my dinghy and go back to my boat. The response time of local constabulary is so poor by the time people call and the cops come I'm already done and gone. BTW The Cop has to catch you in the act or have proof that you violated the law such as a video with time stamps and witness testimony to write the ticket. It is the only way to deal with these kinds of laws!

TBT copper base paints for boat hulls are banned in California, Oregon, Washington State and Alaska, this is for pleasure boats up to 65 feet long, for some strange reason all commercial boats are exempt from this ban, TBT copper based paints are banned in all Europe, including the U.K., Scotland, Ireland, Iceland, and the Faroe Islands. Several countries that won't let you enter if your boat has a TBT Copper paint on the hull, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, and Holland....
@TheSwissChalet4 ай бұрын
@@scable-eq7bp probably because they want all the copper for themselves for other reasons. (electronics, etc) They have to control everything, you know. There's supposedly a copper shortage...can't let the little guys have any of it.
@scable-eq7bp4 ай бұрын
@@TheSwissChalet I think it has more to do with keeping their water supply safe and keeping a healthy aquatic ecosystem in place. Commercial fishing is a huge industry in the countries mentioned. Those countries mentioned use reverse osmosis plants all up and down their coastlines. They supply 65% of the fresh water used in those countries...
@TheSwissChalet4 ай бұрын
@@scable-eq7bp then why aren't commercial boats, the biggest ones that would have the most impact (BY FAR) , allowed to have it, no problem? It's like banning plastic straws...then handing out free plastic syringes. I don't expect a reasonable answer to that question...it doesn't exist.
