Hope you are wide awake on the next train ride on the Bergen rail! I sat gazing out the windows and taking photos for like five hours straight when we took the trip some weeks ago. Absolutely stunning to watch the landscape shift during the trip. I recommend a detour to Flåm, even though there is a lot (really: a lot) of tourists there. Breathtaking place. Love your videos! Excited to see what you are up to next.

Bergen 30 years ago Memories ? It wasn't a Tourist place and Norwegians keep their wooden heritage 1) go up the funicular , I am sure you did. 2) Seems the fish market on the front now a tourist developed market where locals do not go vs a dozen or so tables with fresh fish/ salmon to try and buy with locals. 3) like Scandinavia CLEAN, no Graffiti , the dearth of any beautiful place. 4) Great people and friendly, many Norwegians speak English or try. If I was to return I would look down the comments and go to typical smaller locations posted by locals. They love Brits and Americans and all if we are well behaved . 5) Opening hours need to be understood. 6) Its expensive so save and don't eat Pizza or Kebabs ,, save for real local cuisine !

Bergen is more beautiful than Oslo but the 99% cloudiness and rain throughout the year makes it tough for most to justify aiming to live there. Oslo is the least appealing of the major Nordic cities but it's got the largest population in Norway, the most international, most job opportunities, etc. and weather isn't quite as dreary as Bergen and some other Norwegian cities.

The two door concept is not for safety. You will find this in many Norwegian homes, and it's for protection against weather. When there's lots of snow, freezing temperature and really windy outside you can open the outer door and not chill down the entire house (and not get snow in the rest of the house).

In the spirit of better late than never, I just wanted to share with you a reason for why the food's so expensive. The Norwegian farms are small and very expensive compared to farms in larger countries. To protect the national food production (made on these tiny farms), large food tolls makes local production competitive with more industrial farming from outside the borders. And, to be honest, I prefer it this way since I think it's healthier for everyone. Yes, it's different but realize more and more that different is more than ok as long as it does something good.

I've been watching a lot of videos about Norway lately being stuck inside. You have no idea about expensive. Try vacationing at a touristy New Jersey beach town. Two slices of pizza and a soda will net ya $12 easy! A hotel room can set you back anywhere fro $300 to $600 a night in season! What are all you vloggers comparing these prices too? A third world nation? Your also in touristy cities that will jack up prices accordingly. Hell in my town I pay $16 for a pie before adding toppings! That lunch you guys had is a bargain from my perspective.

Hi and thank you for a lovely video from the city I live in. I like that you also go a bit outside the "beaten track" :-). Locals hardly ever buy anything at the fish market. The prices are way beyond reason. About the "Bryggen / The Wharf" Unesco Heritage site: The houses are original and several hundred years old, and they are not rebuilt after fires. They will be restored though if some smaller parts fall into decay, and that will show. The new materials have another color than the original wood. There has become a problem lately; that visitors pick small parts of wood from the houses to bring home as a souvenir. That is destroying the heritage site. There have been a lot of fires in this city during the centuries, and a large part of the city center (not on the same side of the bay as Bryggen / The Wharf) was totally erased in January 1916. And was rebuilt after as stone- and brick-buildings. Happy traveling :-)
@oeo061
@oeo061 5 жыл бұрын
The buildings are indeed rebuilt after fires. The most devastating fires was in 1248, 1332, 1476, 1527 and 1702, after which the oldest houses currently standing was built. Thus, they are old and authentic, but not original. The ORIGINAL buildings with the same look and the same street structure was erected before 1200. This lineage of continuity and preservation through rebuilding is one major reason why Bryggen earned its Unesco listing in 1979.

A lot has changed since then...Today the city center is probably like 10% of the total city. Most of it is outside of the mountains. Actually Bergen is larger than Oslo in size

Really great video. I would love a video showing prices of food at the store. It will give me an idea of what to budget. Love you guys. Thanks for taking us with you.

6:56 I feel bad for saying this, but those crabe aren’t realy so big. The glass the crabs are in has a function that make them look bigger.

Ashlee I am a redhead so I totally understand the dry skin. I use Britian coconut oil Britian being the brand anyway it comes in a tin. It's cheap and lasts me a year and I use just hot water on a cloth to wash away makeup. I don't know if this helps but it is the best way for me with my over sensitive dried out skin.

You guys also like to collect art from around the world. Cool. I buy stuff and get them framed when I get back to hang up. My family think I have too many paintings hung up. LOL.
