Totally was waiting for your reaction to Mitch's "guitar solo" The moment you realized it was Mitch was priceless! Your face said it all!!. When I saw them in concert the 2nd time, they performed this, Mitch does the guitar with JUST a microphone. Brian May shared their video of this, and gave them props, he was impressed. Seriously love this
@denisehart71044 жыл бұрын
YES, I saw that, and I love that Brian liked their version !
@barefootalien4 жыл бұрын
"JUST a microphone." And probably about $100,000 of mixing boards, equalizers, compressors, monitoring equipment, and at least one professional sound engineer present to run all of it. Why does everyone keep assuming that microphones are _not_ high-end audio equipment, without which PTX could not sound like they do, or that the tens of thousands of dollars of concert-grade audio gear the mic is connected to can't reproduce the sound of a $50 megaphone? You can find videos of PTX performing without all of this, just recorded on a camera microphone at private gigs, and they sound just like you'd expect. That is, the balance is way off, with Scott's powerful voice completely overwhelming most of the others; anyone singing higher up in their register is louder than those singing down low; correspondingly, Avi is almost completely inaudible because basses just aren't very loud, especially down in their lowest chest range and subharmonic register; and Kevin just sounds like some dude beatboxing on the corner, rather than like a very well-miked and mixed drum kit. *And there's nothing wrong with that!* If we were not, collectively as a society, fundamentally _okay_ with the use of such technologies and techniques while still considering it acapella, then we would still all just be listening to opera all the time, because _that_ is what it takes for a single human voice to project over and above a backing chorus and orchestra.
@Bpg5012trick4 жыл бұрын
@@barefootalien In short the volume on the mics are set to level up everyone, nothing to do with effecting their voices or the tone of their voices, any way every musicians mic is set up like that in concert, but a lot don't sound the same live as recorded , which PTX do.
@uneagerly3 жыл бұрын
@@barefootalien no one is implying microphones aren't advanced equipment. they're simply saying that ptx does the bare minimum in editing, just to level and enhance their voices. no auto tune, no fancy editing tricks, no instruments.

You're right about one thing, my friend - once you've seen PTX perform in their videos you'll never be satisfied with just the audio versions again. They are TOTAL performers, and are just as good live as in their videos.

I believe the couch setting is also a metaphor for their career. Their prize for winning the Sing Off in 2012 was a $200K recording contract. The recording company management changed, and the label dropped them. PTX used the money to move the group to LA. They started recording videos singing on a couch to keep in contact with their Sing Off fans. Their quality of work grew the fan base. They eventually were able to tour the world (star scape reference?), but at the end of the day, they are still the friends making music together on the couch. Scott said they wanted to perform this song for years, but waited until they could do it justice. Unfortunately for the fans, Avi left soon after this for personal reasons. Fortunately for the fans, he helped find his replacement so the band didn't have to break up. Avi's doing wonderful solo work now. I highly recommend "Change on the Rise" if you haven't seen any of his work yet.
@kayecastleman63534 жыл бұрын
My understanding on the star-scape is that it is a nod to the lead guitarist for Queen, Brian May, who has a PhD in Astrophysics, since they pan skyward during that second lead guitar solo of his.

This entire video was shot on a street outdoors on a cold night. They started filming right after sunset and finished right before sunrise. You talked about how they even sit on the couch perfectly. Well there's a VERY entertaining behind the scenes video about the making of this where you can see each of the members having all kinds of issues with the moving couch! It's funny AF! Also, Mitch using the megaphone was only for visual effect. Whenever they perform this song live, Mitch doesn't use the megaphone and he STILL sounds like a guitar! Queen guitarist Brian May loved this video so much that he posted it on all of his social media platforms as soon as it came out. And I agree with this being Top Five. My other four are Daft Punk, Hallelujah, Sound of Silence and Imagine (no particular order), but there's about 25 others I can put in there too.

That panning was in the original by Queen. They study their covers carefully, so they're not likely to miss any major design elements. Kevin was very concerned about getting the drums right. They could have done this cover a few years earlier, but by waiting and finding solutions to most of the arrangement concerns, they have produced a stunning song. Mitch doesn't need the megaphone. That is just fun for the visuals.

Watching you (again) excited to see you react to Bohemian Rhapsody was in itself epic. However, I did read through all the posts but many fans aren't aware that there's a special reason their videos are outstanding, unique, and only they can do is bc .. the original 3, Kirstin, Mitch, and Scott went to high school in Austin TX and took theatrical courses. When they entered a TV Radio contest, the rules were they had to be a 5 member 'band'. Through the internet ( I believe) they auditioned and took Avi and Kevin into the group. If you turn off the volume, play their videos, it becomes clearer. Truly they are performers and noone matches them. They are in a league alone. Additionally, it took 5 years to complete Bohemian Rhapsody bc they wanted to do it 'justice' to Freddy. "THIS" is what you just watched 😁. Also, Brian May, lead guitarist (Queen), and astrophysicist was in one of the PTX audiences and made a comment on his FB page how GREAT they were.
