I'm 55 ... only discovered BH about 4 years ago. Been to a few of his shows (small venues) up against the stage .... he'll come by and let people use the kill switch. during 'intermission' he busts out a bag of toys and hands them to people and people bring him gifts likewise .... humble guy to say the least. comes on stage, says nothing proceeds to blow your mind and then leave as quietly as he appeared. I rarely listen to anything else anymore. Check out his live version of Gory Head Stump in San Diego. Unreal!

You can try running chops, not quite scales but scale patterns. 1, 2, 4. 1, 3, 4. 1, 3, 5. Try doing these with alternate picking. Up and down, occasionally repeating lower phases then raise to higher and back down. It helps train your hand progressively. Picking hand is usually the hardest to develop. Use it to build the fret hand in time. Nothing worse than one works but the other can't match or keep up. Also, those patters can be moved upward where fret distances are shorter to start. Move back to the headstock as you feel it is easy in upper areas.

There are different exercises you can do to limber up your fretting hand. Years ago when I started playing I put my right hand between my fingers at the wrist vertically then rotate my hand until I could put my wrist flat with no gap at the bottom.
