Same here. It was the very last day of Pink Floyd performing on U.S. soil which occurred in East Rutherford, NJ at Giants Stadium on July 18, 1994. Absolutely no other concert like it ever since. It was not just an incredible show but truly an experience like no other.

You might be wondering what the big deal is about pausing a guitar solo. I’ll try to explain. Rock, from the late 60’s to the 80’s, was centered on the guitar as the main instrument. Those guitarists who rose to the top were given the title of “guitar god” and people went to the concerts not only to see the band but to hear the guitarist soar and show off their chops. The listener got totally invested in the talent and skill of those great guitarists and David Gilmour is one of the greats; perhaps the most emotive rock guitarist in history. And this is considered among the very best of his solo performances. To hear someone cut off that glorious sound ….yo break the bond between performer and listener at the worst possible point , is jarring and it annoys people. Makes some even angry. Because it’s the HEART of the whole piece. And it also gives the impression that you, the reactor, is not feeling or understanding the music. Because, if you were totally feeling that solo, how in the world could you interrupt it? So it tells us that you’re not into it. Which is disappointing. You cannot be expected to love all this music, which is new to you ….some you will not like. BUT, some advice so that you will not lose subs, ( at least those subs who are classic rock fans) never ever ever interrupt in the middle of a guitar solo. Just make it a rule.

This song is about a real life event. When bass player Roger Waters was in too much pain to perform. A doctor injected him with a pain killer and " stimulent".......he lost all feeling in his entire body and his mind drifted off to another universe, but the pain was gone and he could walk on stage . Unable to feel his hands and fingers he couldn't play, so he just stood on stage while the band played around him. lol

Saw this tour in April '94 at Sun Devil Stadium, in Phoenix, Arizona US with 65,000 friends. And the show was actually BETTER than it looks on video. Pink Floyd placed speakers all around the perimeter of the venue. So sounds could come at you from behind, somewhere off to the left, or from across the stadium. So you were actually INSIDE the experience. And that STAGE!!! This is rumored to be the first computerized light show, and it was stunning~literally. You can see the audience just sitting there, gobsmacked. It was THAT kind of night! Their light show was busy and active, in rhythm with the music the entire night! It was like they were another performer. Imagine trying to tell someone about this performance, back in 1994, when most shows were a couple of racks of colored lights, and nobody knew what a computer was, much less knew what they could do. This concert was literally indescribable, to anyone who wasn't there. Pink Floyd brought their own reality, and for three hours they let us visit them there. Just a magical night. (For a better idea of what it was like to actually be in that audience that night, react to the PULSE version of "One Of These Days", and see another aspect of this unbelievable stage setup.)

The concert footage is from 1994, not the song. The song is from their classic "The Wall" album of 1979. Pink Floyd are as much recognized for their brilliant lyrics as they are for their amazing musicianship. You should always do the studio versions first to fully appreciate the words without the distractions of the incredible live performances. Then I think you'll appreciate the concert versions that much more. "Time" by them next. Studio version. And please try not to interrupt the guitar solo of one of the world's greatest living guitarists this time... David Gilmour. It is considered sacrilegious in many parts.

If you want to do any studio stuff you have to be careful as often tracks transition directly into each other, so if you pick a single track you can get weird chopped off endings. No offense, but you are just too young to appreciate Pink Floyd, and especially THIS song. I was about 15 when this came out, and listening to it NOW, almost 45 years later, it hits so much differently. I notice some people get transfixed by the music, which is ethereal to be sure. But they don't focus on what the song is saying over all, the big picture. It makes me physically ill to hear people think this a song about getting "wasted". That's so far from the truth is should be a crime. You can look up the real inspiration for the lyrics online, so I won't get into it here. But once you do know the real story, the song takes on an even deeper meaning of the struggles of MEN in the world who have to do physically punishing jobs and need to be "Numb" just to get through a day's work. Gilmour's guitar, near the end sounds like it is howling in pain and frustration. This is the true magic of Gilmour and Floyd in general. And as others have said, pausing is Verboten.
