Its from the album Koi No Yokan, meaning "knowing you will be together eternally at first meeting, differs from love at first sight." A knowing as a whole, more than a sexual or emotional attachment, that you and a person are linked at an interstellar level forever.

They’re the fathers of vibey “metal.” Abe Cunningham was such a huge influence on me as a young drummer because of his pocket. He made me realize you could play ghost notes in a heavy song

I just saw them on the same tour in Los Angeles, California! They absolutely killed it & sounded the best they have out of the 4 times I've seen them. 100% agree on the "What Happened to You?" recommendation

@@xtreme1321 Only time I ever saw Deftones before last week was in... 2003? Summer sanitarium tour with Mudvayne, Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, and Metallica... Never had a chance to see them since, for whatever reason...😭 I was curious, excited, and the littlest bit worried about how they'd sound since it was their 1st show on the tour, and 1st show in what, a couple years? Throw in a brand new bassist, and I wasn't sure how they would sound, or if Chino's voice would hold up... You know? Like, would Chino sound amazing because his voice wasn't worn down from multiple shows? Or would he sound rusty, like you could tell he hadn't performed live for a long time... So to make a long post even longer, Deftones put on an AMAZING show, visual and audio wise, and I already can't wait to see them again!!!!!

my interpretation of this song is that the beginning is where you are in shock......dying. The riff kicks in and you are all but dead......then when he says exploooooooode is the part where you are leaving your earthbound body to go to the next level. Whatever that may be. The ending riff makes me feel like you have finally arrived to heaven. Or to whatever you may choose

Album is Koi No Yokan. I believe Chi Cheng did some of his final bass work on this album. The way the song ends it leads onto Goon Squad.

I remember the TV show The Following using this song at the end of the series and it just hit completely differently for some reason. This album is probably my favorite, and has what I think is their best song ever, "Tempest". You won't question whether you like that or not.

Deftones range now days is phenomenal. This song is was not from the white pony album I know that. A lot of their great songs like this one and knife party, passenger all all very atmospheric. Really, all their albums are great. For me "Change (in the house of flies)" is the only song I don't care for. The progression they've shown over the years is phenomenal, while still maintaining a sound that can be easily recognized.

I think loosing their original bass player to a reallt tragic accident after their fifth album had an undoubtedly serious impact on their sound. His bass playing and approach while very understated was fundamental to their groove and vibe. I think they're still making amazing music but their sound had to evolve and i think later akbums tend to take repeat listens before they get you in the same way their stuff did. I'm not sure its worse just different. Also the mix is not quite as perfect as earlier albums.

There's a beautiful fan video of this. I don't know if it is from a video game or what but, it's perfect. Deftones have few flaws in their songs, as out of tune as it can seem to be. At times. P.S. The band is a balance between Chino's melodic nature and Stephen's guitar aggression. They give and take and the result is sometimes either way

This is like one of their best songs... Obviously, preferences and taste are different for everyone, but a good amount of their hardcore fans (including myself) hail Rosemary as some of their best work... I guarantee a few more listens and it'll make your playlist ;) Actually the whole "Koi no Yokan" album is beautiful.

@@Ennui. I find it really interesting how preference and taste works. Two people can listen to the same thing and have completely opposing thoughts about it. Everything deserves a second chance, so I gave it another listen. I must have heard it before, cause I know I have listened to Koy no Yokan a couple of times, but I probably found it just as unremarkable as the rest of the album, which in my opinion is one of their weakest. The only track that really spoke to me was Leathers, which made it to the playlist straight away. Maybe it will grow on me 🤷‍♂️

Maybe try the album in a sitting sometime? It could still have the same "different haircut" feel to you, but sometimes songs out of context of the album arrangement can sound odd as it may be the mellow song between two heavy ones or vice versa. Either way, nice observations. This album was nice, this song in particular came after Gauze a much heavier song, so this was the "breather" after it, just slow and chill to wind down before the final two songs of the album. :>

second this - Deftones very much make full albums that flow from song to song and picking out random tracks isn't always putting it in the best light - I know this is a reaction for the channel, but I feel like if you really want to understand Deftones as best as possible then sit down and listen to full albums, even in chronological order to feel the evolution... 😉
