Such a great song. The stories great, and those little Neil Young esq guitar fills between the chorus and verse are brilliant. A favourite to cover live!

Ha, was listening to this song on spotify on my way home from class just now. Not too often you get Bob Dylan-y, Tom Waits-y vibes from a country artist, but here we are. One thing I'd like to mention, regarding the chord progression, it seems like the 3 chord might just be more of a C#/F. I've found that when I play it, if I play a full-blown Fm it sounds just a little bit off. So with a capo on the 1st fret, just play the C# on the B string, leave everything else open, and let 'er ring. That was the key to the whole song for me. SO happy you listened to this song, love the videos!

Michael somehow your PRS Acoustic doesn’t sound like mine. I got a faulty one ;) your fingers do some magic on that thing; beautiful resonance and clarity. Thanks for all the recommendations over the years; I’d say half my playlist comes from some of these shout outs! Keep doing the thing man! (Also: I’ve never heard a teacher articulate “bass, middle middle, treble, bass middle middle” or whatever. Is this just part of vocalization or does it have its own name as a skill?)
@johnbaker46662 жыл бұрын
Yes, thank you! Been a huge fan of his since his first album. It's impossible to listen to him and not compare to Dylan, Prine, et. particularly because he doesn't really sound too much like any of them. He's in the genre that stretches back through the greatest folky song writers but I rare distinctive new voice. Check out Burning Down The Prairie from the new album as well. kzbin.info/www/bejne/j5epg2V3o6eWn68

I like this guy quite a bit, lyrics are interesting and lure you in to the story but the only thing I can’t get past is I feel his singing style is too similar to Dylan.
