There are 47 time signature changes in the song depending on how you divide it which is why it felt like you were on beat, then off beat. At the very end, it comes together into a time signature that's much more relatable which is why you can jam out a bit there. It's in line with the lyrics that's being repeated at that time - "I know the pieces fit" as if during the rest of the song, it was like trying to figure it out and at the very end, you did.

I absolutely love this song for so many reasons, one being how accessible it is while still being complex. Basically they are counting to 5 and then immediately counting to 7, and then repeat. BUT 5 and 7 add up to 12, so you can still bob your head to it. Absolutely love offbeat patterns, and you definitely had the beat at the beginning. I love coming back to songs like this because once you know what is coming it is just such a treat to jam along with them. This song and it's album are right at 20 years old. There are people so dedicated to the band that the music is almost like a religion. Tool is one of those bands that attracts the most dedicated audience imaginable and I'm not talking the toxic "Stans' or "Barbies". Just a huge group of friendly music nerds.

A tip the bass is the closest thing you get to a beat. The guitar and bass are typically the rhythm section. They change time signatures and continuously come to points on time in unison. Tool as a whole, everyone takes leads and holds rhythms vocals included. Maynard counts syllables to keep parts in rhythm. This band isn't just a rabbit hole it is the rabbit hole.

Over 20 years later I’m still learning and hearing different messages from each song by tool. Arguably the best band. Ever. Tool takes you on a journey where you just sit back and let there music guide you through this hypnotic moment in time while listening to them. This was my first song I learned how to play on bass. Played concert Saxophone for 8 years and the time signature changes still mess with me to this day. Everyone in this band is insanely talented.
