One of the few criticisms I've read of the book is that Evan Wright tried to present an antagonist in order to create a sense of drama, where an antagonist wasn't actually necessary: the land and the enemy were the antagonists, deprivation and boredom and fatigue. He didn't need to create antagonists, and some of the officers were presented as being much worse than they really were. While there is criticism of some of the officers, I've read that they were actually considered by most to be good officers, and there was a lot of conjecture and hearsay and myth that was presented as fact, I lot of "I heard" getting changed to "I saw".

kirin-rex Sixta went on to get sentenced for repeated acts of pedophelia
@Burner.Account..4 жыл бұрын
@@kirinrex No seriously, shit like that's bound to happen. Everyone hates their boss when shit fucks up, and if you're in a business that shit is guaranteed to be fucked up(war), then you're guaranteed to get pissed at one of your bosses at some point. So Evan wasn't entirely wrong when he's writing from a POV where he's closer to the boots than the officers, in a way he did it kinda right to show people having various levels of restraint so everyone can stay focused on the job. If Evan rode with the battalion officers, his book might be about how Iraq turned all the good soldiers into jolly war criminals when you only look at cases of civilian deaths without a first hand understanding of what's in their head.

kirin-rex I see what you mean but Sixtas’ job was to keep moral and order maintained. Love when they show the real soldiers... All are similar to the actor who play them... Except offcourse 4 Ray... And Poke... I guess we never going to see the real encinoman or captain América...I wonder what they think about GK...

I just finished reading Generation Kill and loved it. It's awesome to get to watch an interview with the real guys. Reyes and Kocher are hot. That's all I got.
