They have to pass BMQ, you have to be fit for that. However afterwards.... I think some get fat for some reason. Some are older people who get out of the Regular forces, they still want military life; so it's fine if they get a bit fatter.

That doesn't apply to just Canadians you know. I've heard of US army recruits that couldn't even do 5 pushups at basic and seen scrawney, skinny guys in the footage of USMC induction days. Besides, looks can be deceiving. Just because it looks like you have no muscle it doesn't mean you're not athletic/fit.

If you want to go reserves go air force, tech trade. You do regular bmq, same training, same training as regf members, same QL3 etc. Class B full time contracts non stop.

Why the push ups? Most males and all females need vast improvement for their upper body strength. Best way for upper body strength development, plus to promote some level of expected results from directed activities, is push ups. No special equipment is nessessary for push ups or marching/walking. Push ups and walking is what you will do. One way to build upper body strength is to get yourself a pair of medical crutches. Adjust them for fit. Go spend a few months walking on crutches and your arms will get ripped. So all you new 90-day wonders going to boot camp in a few months. Hoo-rah to you!

i'm a reservists too, in my case they would take it the night before and give random bolts to everyone. so even if you cleaned yours, you could get a filthy bolt anyways and not pass inspection. motivated all of us to clean our bolts

Actually a well trained soldier would just look forward and not even hear him. You need to explain what the problem is. And the old ways of I have been there is long gone. A reserve is a citizen solider, a free society should have citizen soldiers to check and balance a professional force. Or else it's military rule. Some reserves deploy out of a sense of duty to serve the state. You can laugh, but I say you are deploy in combat zones because you are ordered to go. However reservists volunteer without anyone forcing them, because it's their duty.
