What a gentle and just calm environment on training. It’s truly amazing to watch the responsiveness and eagerness to please. I was wondering, do you also train mounting from both sides?
@HollyLenahanSJ
@HollyLenahanSJ Жыл бұрын
Thank you. I do desensitising and groundwork from both sides but not mounting because honestly I’m so awkward mounting from the right, it’s like writing with my non dominant hand haha and I can’t think of a single time where I’ve had to mount from the right so it’s not a priority for me ☺️

Lovely training and walk through your process. Is it common for young recently broken horses to be not very forward?
@HollyLenahanSJ

Yes I find it very common because they’re a little unsure. As they build their confidence, they become much more forward ☺️

No hate! Absolutely love your channel, Im just wondering why you kick him every single time you rise? From the videos it looks like you are giving no release from your leg pressure. I understand its just a few videos and its hard to tell, but just thought id ask! Once again no hate just curious.
@HollyLenahanSJ
@HollyLenahanSJ Жыл бұрын
Hey, if you watch the whole video I explain that he’s not very forward and that’s why I start to hold a whip and there’s a big improvement after that. At the very start, he would have literally halted if I didn’t keep encouraging him to go forward.

Do you have any drainage or a membrane in your arena, or did you just put sand down? Just asking, as I'm on well draining sandy land and wondering if I could get away with just putting sand down on my grass arena? 🤔

Are you sure that the saddle fits him? Otherwise really nice work, i believe he will be a very nice horse in the future 😄 How much taller do you think he‘ll get since he is very small right now?
@HollyLenahanSJ
@HollyLenahanSJ Жыл бұрын
It doesn’t fit him perfectly but it would be very unusual for someone to buy a custom fitted saddle for a horse to be broken in. It fits adequately for the level of work (light trot and canter) he’s doing. He won’t be huge but he has some growing left in him. Maybe he’ll be 16 hands when he’s fully mature ☺️

Why he's moving his mouth all the time? He's only a baby and has to learn so much, but when he was spooking it was even dangerous, but you did very well 🥰
@vogelvrouw
@vogelvrouw Жыл бұрын
Most green horses are fiddling with the bit, its just getting used to different type of contact on the bit and calming himself down (as far as I know, I'm not very familiar with starting horses)
@joannesmartens9442
@joannesmartens9442 Жыл бұрын
@@vogelvrouw i understand but why she don't look for a better bit, because i think he don't feel comfortable with this one. And i know and can see in many cases it's not so easy to find the good one.
@bethkennon9755
@bethkennon9755 Жыл бұрын
@@joannesmartens9442 it’s a snaffle bit so it’s super soft for young horses and helps create a nice soft mouth some horses just prefer to fiddle with their bit to relax and get used to it similar to a child sucking on a dummy or you fiddling with your fingers
@caoimhe4715
@caoimhe4715 Жыл бұрын
Every young horse fiddles with their mouth when they're getting used to the bit.
