Honda has expanded its Mini-Moto lineup with the release of the 2019 Honda Super Cub C125. The Super Cub has been for sale worldwide since 1958, but the United States hasn't been so lucky, missing the little moto scoot since the 1970s. For 2019, Honda refreshed the bike, through in a 125cc Grom engine, and the Super Cub C125 was born. Is it worth your money?

It was originally made with a heel-shifter so businessmen in Japan could ride to work without scuffing their shoes.

jk632 jk632 no business man ride this thing. This is for delivery man to grab a food container on left hand and ride with it. In Asia, at least Korea and Japan and China, like 10 years ago, many food delivery man rode bike like that. They usually ride in town (packed narrow Asian town), so they rarely go over 30mph which made it possible to ride bike with giant food container on left hand and throttle on right hand.

@@obijuankenobi6565 they have been produced since 1958, designed to be an every man's vehicle, like the VW beetle. It was cheap, reliable, and mass producible. its just a comfortable easy to operate bike. it appealed to the needs of the market better and most other bikes at the time, big wheels for roads in bad condition, step through frame for a wide demographic of people, heel toe shifter to not damage shoe's and a clutch-less bike that could be operated by one hand for delivery driver. The bike is a honestly a snapshot of the past.

I bought a Monkey. My first ever bike and I’m 47. I live in a coastal town in England and I just wanted something to cruise around on for fun. I don’t need or want anything big or fast. Everyone kept telling me to buy a Honda, including my wife who has a Shadow. When I saw the Monkey I just had to have one. I think Honda are nailing it with their small bikes. The Grom likely appeals more to the youngsters, but for those of us that are older and fancy a bit of retro the Super Cub and Monkey are there. Great stuff.

It always amazes me when I hear a younger person review a retro machine like this - like it is something completely new which I suppose it is to you. I was riding these in the seventies. Then you could get a 50cc version or a 90cc version. It is a remake (much updated of course) style-wise of the old bike which sold millions. Its a love it or hate it thing. It offers some weather protection as does a Vespa or Lambretta but is a hell of a lot safer with those motor cycle size wheels but....it does lack street cred for the younger biker. It appeals to me and I am a biker allbeit an "old" biker. When I can no longer handle my Triumph Bonneville Maybe I'll get one of these.

Bret, the way a semi-automatic motorcycle transmission works is when you first start to put pressure on it, that disengages the clutch and then once you pull it up all the way, that clicks it into another gear. Same for downshifting as well. That's why it feels just like a regular transmission because it is one. Just moved the clutch from the handlebar to the shift lever.

My wife (BMW bike rider) just fell in love with the 2020 Super Cub at Ride Now in Tucson, AZ. She is very definitely going to buy this cute little bike on looks alone. She pictures herself running errands, with the optional luggage rack of course, and riding to her hiking trails. Decked out with a scarf and a flowery half helmet, I can totally see it happening. The red color scheme for 2020 had me thinking, maybe I'll get the retro Honda Trail to tag along. Well done, Honda! Cheap, reliable city cruisers are back!

I saw Jay Leno do a piece on this bike and had to have one. Just got rid of my Kawa ER6n and swore if on 2 wheels it would be my bicycle. Checked Honda dealers in Salt Lake, no bikes. Googled pre-order C125 and a dealer in Orem had 2. I bought one and on the ride home met a guy at the liquor store. He bought the other. In 3 weeks I put near 1000 miles on mine. It's in for service. When I get it back we have many miles to go. Added rack and soft bag for utility. Just a wonderful motorcycle getting 150 mpg.

The heel/toe shifter is so that one doesn't scuff the toes of their shoes on the way to work. At least that's how it was explained in the manual for my 1962 C50, They were concerned that any young professionals who bought the bike wouldn't want to mess up their outfit while commuting. Hence the leg shields, and heel/toe, Also the 50 (like mine) are push rod engines with splasher oil systems (think B&S lawnmower engine). Good video.

The Super Cub is the largest selling bike in the world. I have seen a family of five on one of these in Thailand and a Thai farmer loading one of these with huge baskets of produce and his wife on the back heading for the city market in Ubon, Thailand. This is the modern version of the "Little Honda" that the Beach Boys were sang about in the 1960's. It was my first ride and introduced millions of bay boombers to motorcycles in thier youth, in the 50 and 90cc versions. The 50s and 90s were always underpowered for American roads so the 125 is a welcome improvement. Retired "Boomers" might even be interested in getting back on one. I know I would.

It does have a clutch - a centrifugal one - like you have in RC cars with engines. You can damage it by slipping it too much. What you are actually doing by lowering the throttle is disengaging the clutch shoes - then you change gear - add throttle again and the clutch shoes expand outwards and grip the clutch bell and provide drive. Brilliant little bikes - and the single most popular machine in the world - over 100m produced :-)

It’s a modern version/iteration of the Cub C50, C70 and C90... which have been out for years. I used to ride my dads 90... shifting I always used my toes whether up or down shifting, never heal. I’d move my foot all way back and toe to shift up and obv use the forward part to shift down. You therefore always press to shift gears up or down. Yes, de-throttle while shifting. They are not mopeds, they are 4 stroke motorbikes. Knicknamed Granda Plakka... Plakka being slang for plastic. Love them... not so much this one tho.

This bike is pretty much what we call a postie bike in Australia but it's called a CT110

The ct110 is based off the cub hence the ct cub-trail.

Mopeds like that are pretty common here in Asia. Almost every household has it either to commute or just to buy some groceries at the market. People have done some crazy mods to make it faster. 😂
@Zedexization

Mopeds are popular in many parts of Asia because it's cheap, nimble and easy to maintain (small engine means less engine oil to buy and lesser fuel consumption, and smaller tires are cheaper, provides more mobility and the size is just enough to corner). Most places in Asia are overpopulated and the traffic is horrific for a big motorcycle there. Honda introducing the moped/underbone to America is probably to test the market for mopeds there which is a really brave thing to do considering how most Americans believe bigger is better and lane splitting in some states are a big no-no (reason why mopeds are popular because of how good it is in cutting stalled or slow traffic)

A chance? This model style has been being built for decades. It is, in fact, the most most volume produced motor vehicle of all time. In the world.

If ever you don't know that kind of bike, it can be called a cub but here in the Philippines or Southeast Asian market its categorized as underbone motorcycles. There is also a sportier underbones here in Southeast Asia mainly the Raider 150 or Satria 150, and the Sniper 150 or Street Monarch. You might wanna check out Sniper 150 because it looks so cool and sporty.

Im not a huge fan of this style of motorcycle (personal preference obviously), but I love the styling of this one. With the lines and the color scheme as it is, it makes me think, "If someone from the 1950's designed the bike of the future this is what they would do." Its pretty sick looking, I bet it would look awesome in candy apple red and an off-white/cream.

The whole bike is designed for one handed operation; that's why they have a clutchless shifter. In some countries, it's very popular as a delivery vehicle, and can even be used by a dude dressed in a suit so he could carry his briefcase. That's part of the reason that the chain is enclosed (to keep lube or chain dirt off of you); also because of maintenance.

In Asia, they wear a lot of sandals so the heal shifter works well. You don't rub the top of your foot raw.

You can hold the shifting like your pulling the clutch so you can rev. That transmission is the normal thing here in the Philippines which is most motorcycle here are 100 - 150cc

I bought one and I love it. I'm 6'5" and weigh over 300 lbs, I look like a gorilla riding a mini bike, but I don't care. The bike is fun to ride, fast enough for running around town, easy enough to ride with one hand and hold onto something else with my left arm. I went to the dealership to look at a Grom. Then I saw Monkey and nostalgia hit me. lol As a kid I had a Trail 90, which is the Cub but with off road tires and dual sprockets. I knew I wasn't walking out of the dealership without it. I also ended up buying a Suzuki VanVan 200 a few weeks later.

So it's basically a 4 wheeler / ATV manual transmission? Neutral at the bottom instead of between 1st and 2nd with no clutch.

so there is a thing I called a semi-auto clutch ( IDK if quick shift works the same ) but when you push ( pull ) the pedal/lever halfway through, you just disengage the clutch, and all the way through, you just change the gear.

There is really a technique to shift more smoother on that thing, its like rev matching but in increasing the gear not decreasing... Wondering what types of people ride it well mostly is towns people where they will install a side car to load goods or people for transportation
