You'll also need to get a battery, preferably a 48V 1500w Li-ion battery or better (battery, controller, and motor should be the same volts). You can go for a 36V set up (which is cheaper), but your top speed, acceleration, and battery life will be lower. The stock mph is NOT calculated properly and is off by 7 to 8 mph compare to gps mph. You can fix it on the display, but it's definitely a lie. If you need 60mph, do not get this. The rear suspension is actually terrible. Ask anyone who ones one and they'll tell you to replace it. It's super stiff. The stock tires are also super hard rubber with not the best grip. So you'll need to get those replaced when you can. The CTY model is still out of production, probably for another year or 2.

Can register it as personal property with your renters insurance (at least through State Farm) and if it was to get damaged or stolen while out and about, they will cover it for you. I'm doing that with my Electric Bicycle at least so no reason it can't be done with this as well?
@eBikeaholic4 жыл бұрын
Great video, thanks for being thorough and upfront about the range limitations! I think onyx nearly nailed it with the RCR - finally some decent power to make it an actual personal transportation vehicle that can safely keep up with traffic. I'll probably try the QS motor on my next build bc of this bike. My biggest concern about the cool retro cafe racer frame style is the 'bikeability'. They need to design a way to adjust the seat for proper rider geometry. Or maybe consider removing the pedals? Pegs would be more comfortable but you'd lose the active transport / human assist side of it. The scooter wheels and tires are a great idea too, much more rugged and puncture resistant than a fatbike setup.
@eBikeaholic4 жыл бұрын
@Martyr4JesusTheChrist yeah I'm not worried about the definition of moped, my point about the frame is that it's geometry is obviously not designed to be comfortably pedaled for medium to long distances. This will cause mulitple issues over time; lower back, knee, hip, shoulder and neck pain. They should either make the seat height adjustable like the new Rad power bike or just ditch the cranks and make an e-moto or whatever you want to call it. Also the main reason they added little cranks to classic mopeds was bc they were unreliable and underpowered. They were there only to start the motor, help climb a steep hill or as backup if the motor fails. These should be a non issue for the QS motor.
@cpf78944 жыл бұрын

It might make sense where you live but where I live mopeds are restricted by law to 30mph so it would have to be registered as a motorcycle. And if I have to do that 60mph is a handicap not a feature
@undrgrnd7344 жыл бұрын
The biggest issue is its a grey area ebike or moped. Its a class 2 ebike in eco. It can pass for a moped in normal but sport is motorcycle status. Thats fine with me I test rode it and normal is PLENTY for me, sport was crazy. Biggest issue is legality, it lacks turn signals, mirrors and other parts to register it as a moped such as a vin number. Right now its underground so most people dont know about it but if it ever becomes mainstream I can easily see karens lobbying to ban these. Especially since Ive seen all the videos of people blowing past stop signs on 40 mph.

@GeeKIller That's horrible bro. Ya mine wasn't as intense lol but I was jumping kickers leaning back past the rear of the seat. When I landed my feet slipped off the pegs and my groin went right into the rear well tearing up my pants and shredding up my ass pretty good. Luckily I still had my junk intact. Just one of the really dumb things I'm surprised to have survived as a kid too lol.

I've had problems with cops on ebikes but I have a motorcycle license. I wonder how hard it would be to register this as a moped or motorcycle? I definitely prefer having a license plate. Cops in my tourist town ignore mopeds and motorcycles but hate bmx and ebikes from my personal experience.

The wheel hubs in the back should be white, and the body panels should come in more colors, I like the blue-gray color of the previous Onyx city bike. Bluish panels on a black frame and a white hub will really elevate the style

@JasonWW20004 жыл бұрын
What is a 600?
@ryanm.1914 жыл бұрын
JasonWW2000 a 600cc motorcycle. Typically referring to an A2 category bike between 400cc and 650/700cc but not a litre bike
@JasonWW20004 жыл бұрын
@@ryanm.191 Oh, that's a completely different type of vehicle. You cant compare ice to electric. If all you care about is cost, stick to gas. Electric bikes have a ways to go before they get their costs down.
@ryanm.1914 жыл бұрын
JasonWW2000 e bikes are better imo, I prefer them. I love the sound the efficiency the power etc etc. But this isn’t an eBike. This is an ebicycle. It doesn’t have that motorbike look or style and literally has pedals. And due to that fact, 4 grand is simply not worth it, way too much money for way too little when there are much better options for much less money. so that’s why I said buy a 600 or spend the cash on a zero fx or something
@JasonWW20004 жыл бұрын
@Pilot Omaha It's simple, just start your own business, lease some property, hire some employees, buy the parts, have your employees assembled it, buy some advertising, pay all the legal fees and before you know it, you have to sell it for $4,000 just to make any kind of profit. This should be common sense. If you have the time, knowledge and mechanical ability to assemble all the parts and build it yourself, of course you can do it cheaper. Why do you think so many people are building their own electric bikes and motorcycles? Because it's way cheaper. This is called cutting out the middleman.

Saw this on Dillon Thomsons channel, seems like a good alternative to Sur Ron, I thought it would be double the price is is... around $10,000 I figured. I think this bike will become very popular.

Love the look of these. I followed their work for a while. Few problems with the bike though, it’s a bit top and back heavy, battery rattles around in the body, large wire from the motor is fully exposed, seems to wear relatively quickly, the stated 60mph isn’t quite right from tests owners have done with GPS speed tracking etc etc. Aside from the downsides, it’s a fun bike and it looks pretty cool. If you’re outside of the US though, I’d go for a Surron.

@robertlee84004 жыл бұрын
It needs to sit lower for better cornering , it needs front & back fenders , if you ride it street it needs break lights & turn signals , don’t like the positioning of the pedals they need to be right under you & not so far back , they should make different colors you can choose from or you should look into if you have it custom painted if it voids the warranty , the handle bars should be more upright not so low like a cafe racer . That’s the Cons now for the Pros , I like the speed of it , I like the big light in front , I like the range , like the torque , like the big knobby tires , like that it can go off road , like the slim line of it , . I,d pay $4 grand for it if all the CONS were fixed & if it don’t void the warranty if you get I custom painted , it needs the option of having a longer seat or a rack on back . I,d ask if you add some of you own features to it like extra road lights if it voids the warranty

If you’re in California you’ll probably need a moped license, license plate as well as lights/dot approval and such. The fastest/highest class of e bike in California is class 3 which pedal assisted w/ a max speed of 28 mph. The max speed of throttle only is 20 mph (class 2) anything above that is considered a moped. Likewise if the bike can go over 28 mph even with pedal assist it’ll probably be considered a moped. Some will claim it’s still a bike bc it has pedals; however, the cop writing you a ticket probably won’t bc then any electric motorcycle company could then just slap pedals onto their bike and call it an ebike. I doubt a cop would fall for that even if you tell them there is a 750 w mode. Bc you, the cop, and me know that you’re not gonna be going 15 mph on a bike that can do 60
