First river Wye Barbel on my DIY refurbished split cane rod and Bob James centre pin.

Well I’ll be honest, it was 5 days and some hours so not quite the 7 day dry time. But with it being James’s birthday christening the refurbished rod combined with my favourite pin seemed a good idea. Only the one fish between us but quite a nice one at 8lb 13oz, caught over a mix of particle, pellet and boilies. The ever faithful SG1 on the hook.

In my opinion you cannot beat a split cane rod. However your one doesn't look typical, all its action seemed to be confined to the top section. My avon style one, (I bought it in the 1950s), action is all the way through the rods length. Maybe yours was too heavy, perhaps it's a mkIV type carp rod.

It’s a bit of a mystery, the rods a 4 piece Milward’s, not in any catalogues but I somehow managed to stumble across two of them completely separately. Have a look at my Lugg Barbel video it shows it at full stretch. 🤢

@@DaleThomas15.2 Thanks for replying. A 4 piece cane rod isn't usual, although one of mine is. They're more often in 2 or 3 sections, or at least mine are. Good luck using them.
