I admire you for many reasons. Your a young woman with a successful business. You have a lot on your plate everyday, but you are able to admit what you are concerned about. Anxiety is not easily conquered. My daughter has had it all her life and I worry about her health as she has not learned to manage it well. I love watching your videos and am a member of your Pateron website, which I love for training. You are very thorough and you explain it very well. Keep up the great work.

This is so exciting to me. I just started leasing a pony about 3 months ago and our first show together is this August. This is my first out of stable show, so I’m kind of nervous but mostly excited. This definitely made me antsy, can’t wait till we get to go!

You reminding us that our brain and body can help get rid of the anxiety they created sounds so helpful! I have been taking riding lessons for roughly one and a half years and I really struggle with transitioning into canter because I am afraid. My seat is not well yet and I feel I have so little control in the canter that it blocks me from getting there to train to begin with. I will try keeping what you said in mind when I have my next lesson. Because it's getting to a point where my anxiety is ridiculous. Sitting on lovely horses and having a lovely trainer I really should be able to just canter and I have done it before a couple of times too.

Thank you for this🙏🏻 your intro was exactly what I needed to hear. I’m getting back into showing after 10yrs & I’m a nervous wreck! My first show back at it is next month😬 I know my mare & I will do just fine as long as we go in with the mentality of having fun & gaining experience from it. But holy cow does it make my stomach churn just thinking about it😖 so thank you for that reminder that we can work ourselves out of the anxiety if we recognize it for what it is, not allow it to control us. You’re an incredible rider by the way!!

Remember you can accomplish anything ....as long as you face it in one task at a time.when you look at the whole job you have to do from start to conclusion it’s just overwhelming. I have an extremely stressful job myself which includes a bevy of different clients at any given time. I’ve found that if I just get on with it and do SOMETHING the momentum becomes self motivating.....still not thinking about the end point....you’ll find when you look up and take a breath you’ve actually accomplished what you wanted. I know it’s easy to say but mental stress is a killer instead of letting it paralyze me I think bring it on I love it, you’ll find your relationship with stress changes pretty quickly.

Hi Miri, I had to pause the video to leave a comment. Thanks so much for your talk about anxiety. I have really been feeling it. I'm in the last two weeks of my summer classes at college and am really starting to feel overwhelmed and like I can't do it. Your talk is exactly what I needed to hear this morning. Anyway! On to show jumping!

As someone who has suffered from anxiety, especially recently, and studied psychology for yonks, I think it is important to say that just thinking your way out of anxiety and 'snapping out of it' by applying logic is not how it works for most of us. Many people may be experiencing this for the first time and not being able to reason themselves out of it like you described might just exacerbate the feelings of being overwhelmed and not being able to get on with stuff. It's very important to acknowledge how you feel, and then open up to someone who is in a position to help you, or at least help you get help. For some this might mean medication, therapy or whatever. I just had to state this in case it might help someone who is struggling. Especially now with the world gone mad, many people who never wobbled before are experiencing huge amounts of grief, fear, uncertainty, depression and anxiety. Speak up. Talk to friends, or reach out to get help. We are all going through this together. X

Congrats on placing third☺. I really enjoyed the video - showjumping and especially your honesty. I recently completed a Stress Control program. Anxiety & stress often go hand in hand. Under the current situation, I have to function a day at a time. I also find lists helpful - it's so satisfying to tick stuff as being done - even if a very small task. Sometimes, I find that I have to tell myself to just start doing a task, breaking it down into manageable parts - no matter how small & not think myself into knots & end up doing nothing. I highly recommend people to ask their G.P. for help if anxiety and stress affect your life. The course the local Community Mental Health Team suggested for me is online due to Covid 19. Even so, it was so helpful. The most helpful advice for me involved identifying triggers for my stress response & writing a plan on how I can approach these triggers - as you spoke about. My heart goes out to those facing their own personal mental health challenges. We are not alone, there is help & your speaking openly about it Miri, means so much. We can see "It's not just me", there is help & we needn't be held hostage by our feelings & feel less by them. Stay well all.
@TheSeamstress14 жыл бұрын
You already mentioned it Miri but the way to delete anxiety is to write down lists for everything. Make sure you always have planned your day after before you sleep otherwise you won't sleep well, overlay and then rush around not knowing what you're supposed to be doing. I had a very stressful job and that was the only way i could cope. Write. Everything. Down. Time everything, stick to the times, make sure you allow lunch, coffee breaks etc. So you know you have time in the day to switch off for 10 minutes. Love your stuff Miri, great job at the showjumping!👌
@TheSeamstress14 жыл бұрын
And here is another tip, don't be a control freak, delegate, delegate, delegate! The more you train others to do bits of your job the more they can help, the more job satisfaction they feel and the less stress you have. DELEGATE!👌

Is is anxiety producing to be responsible for the lives and training of many large animals. I am on my own, and Ammy without a trainer most days, and work five horses a day. Plus stalls, barn cleaning, etc. It is a wonderful life but there are moments where I wish someone would take over for a few days. I have a trainer friend who will call once a week or so and ask about all the horses and what I'm doing, and it helps me stay motivated and focused.

Can totally relate to the anxiety of having so many things to do! Last weekend I must have taught 12 lessons, and then we had an never ending list of our own and clients horses to work.. plus farm duties, cows, dogs, cats... and everything in between, horses just take so much time generally and it certainly looks like a mountain to climb when you wake up in the morning! Anyway, loved your insight on anxiety, I will employ those thoughts tomorrow morning when a bunch more clients horses arrive to add to the daily list lol!!! (Just what we need right, more horses.) Glad to see you back out there. Hopefully this second lockdown in Melbourne ends soon so we can get back out there too!

I am a person prone to anxiety - about life in general but mostly about my skills - or lack thereof - as a beginner horse owner and how that must be affecting my horse. (And about many other things but I'd be all day if I tried to list them.) What you said at the beginning of the video really made me relate to you, because for a very long time I couldn't get over my anxiety about riding. I would cry just about every time I lunged my horse. It took me forever to realise what you realised, which is that feeling we make for ourselves, we can also _unmake_ ourselves. That one realisation has changed my life. A thing to remember: Punishing yourself for things you cannot change will only drive you insane. By all means improve yourself, but don't worry about anything outside your reach because... well, it's outside your reach.

I totally that the stress of riding many do horses is not talked about enough. We ride horse because we love them and the sport. But a lot of the time you see these top riders riding all day every day and think that must be what you need to do. I used to riding many different horse for different people and the stress of balancing that with school and everything else in my life just got to be to much. I found myself not enjoying it as much. I feel really lucky in that horse are not my business and I had the luxury to take a step back and ride fewer horse but take more time with each one and find joy in it again. Anyway just a long rambling paragraph, but I love your content. You inspire me to be a better trainer and just a better person!

How did Tillie do? I loved your insight about anxiety. It is not a real thing like a car or a table. We generate it from inside. As you say, the brilliant part of this is that we can un-generate it by focusing on what we have to do rather than on our state of mind in advance of doing it.

I hope you haven't spent all your price money in one go! 😁 On a more serious note, anxiety is a weird thing. So tough to reason your way out of it even if you intellectually understand the mechanics of it but then you have one of those epiphanies. For me it was having Fritz Cola (think Coca Cola with triple the amount of caffeine) late one evening and not sleeping for a second that night...with basically the same bodily symptoms like an anxiety attack (heart racing, being wide awake...) but none of the worry, none of the racing thoughts. That for me was weirdly eye-opening for me to have this disconnect between the two. And just in case I needed to learn a little harder I than had very strong tea late at night a couple of days later and didn't sleep much again. In my defense, I saw it coming but it was at the loveliest little Marrocon restaurant and refusing the tea would have been horrible. Lol.
