Congrats yung JD! And just so you know you’re not alone in only flying once a month or longer. I remember for my PPL I had maybe 4 hours in a 3 month period. It’s happened a few times actually since I’m trying to go through all my licenses without loans or other outside help. But I didn’t let the discouragement take over my dream man and I can see it hasn’t for you either. It took me a year and a half for me to get licensed, but it was so worth it. You’re gonna enjoy the hell out of these XC’s coming up. My current instructor always told me “you’re a pilot man, you just don’t have the license yet” and that goes for you too. Once you realize that, your training and journey is going to go much smoothly. There will obviously be some bad days, but use that as fuel for perfection. Enjoy this moment man! It only gets better from here.

Dood, talking everything out during flights will help you so much. Vocalizing things is a great way to make sure you exceed standards. I especially found this true during my instrument rating training, but even just in the pattern, it can help to keep every aspect dialed in to perfection. Nice job.

I am so thankful and grateful to be able to see students solo. Lewis is beaming and is so happy for what you have done. What I see and know is you have a fabulous instructor who instills knowledge, decision making and fun. The feeling of accomplishment and self-confidence is hard to describe. Congrats! The first solo is always such a great experience for pilots in training. My instructor didn’t tell me in advance that he planned for me to solo when I did. We went around the pattern twice, then he had me taxi off the runway, I thought we were through for the day. He had me stop on the taxiway, gave me his critique, then sent me up on my own! He didn’t give me a chance to get nervous! I’m not sure I could have relaxed if he had! But it was a thrilling and successful experience for me, and getting to watch this solo brings back such great memories for me! Thanks for sharing. 😁

Major congratulations on this accomplishment, JD!! 3:31 - But... if anything ever happens, make sure you tear out any logbook pages with Lew's signature... LOL!
