To keep pickerel from biting you off, make up short leaders using tie-able steel leaders in the 10-15# range. Loop at one end. Quick snap at the other. 3-6" total length. Cortland SST 10 is a good choice. I caught a dozen pickerel on a BFS rig with one of those leaders and didn't lose a single lure.

I have the Ark Genesis ML casting rod and I love that rod when I'm out there power bfs'n. It's rated down to 1/32 of an oz. I know that seems really light but it loads a 1/16oz with eurotube really well and has that medium light backbone. Very nice rod you should check it out.

That early spring bite is on. After watching this gives me more confidence to try the jika/free rig. Those pickerel must have been sharpening their teeth during the winter. I love the spinner and chatter bait around pickerels because they can't steal them. Worst part about catching a pickerel is unhooking them.

Oh yeah man! Got enough clips for 2 more videos and I was able to do 1 live on YT and 1 on IG. Was a good last winter weekend! Give Jika a try. I use lighter weights so it falls slower. They make fish go nuts near trees. And usually slack line fall is where the bite happens. This rod here is amazing! Few of those Casts, the fish hit pretty much when it landed!

jimbo theres nothing better than hearing the birds chirp and smell of spring, unfortunately its been really windy this year up north unlike last year 20+ mph wind everyday ..when monsterbass had the bags it was great while it lasted i got 10 and they make it worth buying the box. that reel is nicer than the new one idk why they went cheap on the extra detail here and there very disappointing.

Spring is here somewhat... But yeah that wind is insane. Hope the wind atleast help churn up the water and warm it faster. Bags are indeed great! Helping a lot on organizing my stuff... I have too much stuff lol

@@ronaldyeater3322 If you pick a lure under 12 grams and cast it on BFS gears, it's bfs fishing. I don't think they make bfs specific lures. (could be wrong but I don't know). Just pick the right one for your setup and it will work for bfs fishing ;)

It would be nice if they made a lighter wire hook for spinner baits. Even the small ones, I've notice that the hook is pretty stout for a bfs combo. A trailer hook might help it but without one you're kinda screwed unless you risk the health of your rod like you said with the hook sets.

I would love to see some too that are budget friendly. I think Japanese ones are definitely thinner. I should compare that jackall that I have, but mannnn... if a pickerel bit that off.. my health of my wallet wouldn't be too good LOL

Sup Jimmy. Have to love those pickerel, they like to be on camera. Some nice bass! Sry took while got hit with infection, but on meds and if get ok can fish the weekend in wheelchair, friend has one from mother but will see🤞. Is the Jackson rod BFS? Should contact Karl's mystery tackle box see if they will start a BFS box? Might work out? Ty tc

oh man, infections are no joke! take good care of your self! Yes the Jackson Blast Beats "So-Called Finesse" and "Makimono Special" are BFS rods that Bait Finesse Empire now carry. In regards to the BFS box, i believe their panfish/trout box would be it as those lures are considered castable with BFS gears

@@rawrfishing yea infections actually suck lol. If antibiotics don't work it's back in hospital😤. I can see the pan fish box relates but not BFS completely. Trying to look for a rod about $75. Most will go into reel. So far its curado BFS or the reel with option for other spools and gears. But one day at a time. Will be embarrassing at sportsmans club opening day in wheelchair. They understand but it's in my head. They made me the 1st honorary life member.

Nice video! Does anyone in USA use a 15-20 cm ∅ 0.3 mm steel wire as leader to protect a bait from a pike cut?

I think most would not. Which Is why most bass anglers have a strong negative feeling towards these fun fighting fish

I wonder if you had used 12lb fluoro those pickerels / sticks would have still broken you off. I hate the price of fluoro but it can take a beating and not lose strength in water.

12 lb isn't enough. I use 12lb as my go to line all year and it gets cut like paper. 20lb is barely enough sometimes depending on size of the pike or pikeral.

with the size of pickerels in that lake that goes to 6 lbs... yeah.. it will slice 20 too lol. i had one that hit my chatterbait and he got off.. that thing was frayed pretty badly. same trip same day! sheesh!!!!!

@@brian1204 gotcha! Try the Tsurinoya Dark Wolf Ultra. Just got it and I heard it does 1 gram out of the box. 1/16 is about 1.75 g

For a new BFS person, just use the brand you are most comfortable with.

I personally prefer X8 Braid on my BFS reels, I feel it doesn't bed in as much as the X4 strand stuff. As Jimbo says what ever brand you are happy with in the 6>12lb range (depending on where you fish and what for) my preference is Sunline Siglon X8 in 8lb. Ps don't put loads on, only put on what you think you will need - again my own preference is around 30/40m.

@@stuartday3232 I think it's good to share other people tackle! That said, thanks mate! And good points too! Braid are thin. So no need to max the spool as that would just add weight. I put 100 to 125 ft depending on reel setup and tie on short leaders
