I just wanted to say thank you. I’m disabled ex-law enforcement and I suffer terribly with my mental health. However, your videos, especially the colder months ones, really lift my spirit and bring me some light for a while. Hopefully I’ll be able to buy you a beer one day and say thanks in person. Give that big daft dog a big hug from me. Thanks buddy. 👍🏻

What a delightful romp Al, you and Bluey back on the trail. Clear to see you enjoying life and the solitude. Many moons ago, I was climbing up that gully on a cold wet winters day, and got my backpack snagged on an overhanging bit of rock. For what seemed like forever I was stuck. Couldn't go up or down and my hands were slipping off the holds. I was about to make the same fall as your bag just did. With some scary wriggling about, I managed to free the bag and made it up. The old poop shoot was a bit pukkered up I'll tell you. Like the blunt end of a rag man's trumpet.

My friend and I wildcamped there during Storm Bert. We also camped at Angle and Red Tarns. With windchill, it got down to -17°C. This was beyond the limits of my so-called 'winter' quilt, and I froze my b*ll*cks off for 3 consecutive nights. First thing I did when I got back was buy a -20°C comfort-rated sleeping bag. Never again do I intend to be that cold. 🥶 I have to say, from watching you pick up your bag one-handed, it looked pretty light. I guess it's all relative, as I was carrying 3 days worth of food and supplies. It was a beast of a pack and with hindsight, I took too much stuff. I'm glad I took 2 trekking poles, as I doubt very much my joints would have survived without them. All in all, it was a a fantastic trip but also a valuable lesson in kit choice. I have some serious streamlining to do!
@BUSHMANandBLUEАй бұрын
There is always a balance with carrying the weight as obviously it’s better to be safe. I have some extremely lightweight gear that helps. Worth spending the money on a decent sleeping bag👊

Hi mate can you recommend any traction devices for salomon quest 4 boots, not rated b1 but some people say there as stiff as. I heard you can use some c1 crampons with a flex bar but I'm not sure. Don't plan on anything too technical but if I use the Llanberis path up snowdon or the wasdale route up scafell for an example. Will microspikes be enough? Cheers
@BUSHMANandBLUEАй бұрын
Often microspikes are enough but you can get a flexible crampons I have the Petzl Leopard FL which are lightweight
@NathanAttonАй бұрын
@BUSHMANandBLUE thanks mate ill take a look
@wandering_stuАй бұрын
I used Grivel G10s with the flex bar on my old Quests a couple of times. It works fine for most walking but I wouldn't want to use it on steeper ground where you're on the front points of the crampons. The Quests are still pretty flexible compared to proper winter boots so it puts a lot of stress on the flex bar and also risks the heel popping loose.
