You keep talking about "bringing competition between players" and I get that, the national team must be earned. But don't underestimate the value of confidence : players need stability. Many top players have had bad times in their clubs but flourished in the national team because it was their safe place (Griezmann, Klose, James Rodriguez, Podolski, Zyech, Pogba, Giroud, etc.)

Thats a fair point. He will be still be focussing on those who’ve played at the highest level even if they’re not regulars for their clubs. The best player is not always the most gifted, but the one who fits the system.

​@@1972dsrai Yes although I admit it's a VERY complicated equation because even top players may be in a real bad shape physically and mentally and it can penalize the team : for example recently Cristiano, Kane or even Mbappé during the Euro 24.

Well they can come to camp, but then do it while there. Same with MLS players…not saying they need to play with the NT, but if they’re consistent starters in MLS they deserve a look along with the bench warmer in Europe

Richards is the more likely of the two considering the level he’s playing at and the clubs he’s played for. He’s someone who could realistically make the step up.

I hope he calls Gio. 1. Even if he sits, at least he gets evaluated. 2. He’s not getting minutes in club so gets minutes with US. 3. If he shows well, maybe it sparks interest from some other club, thus solving the issue of club minutes

Tender tessman is the best holding midfielder we have. He needs to play in the senior team. Tessman has amazing vision, passing and physicality to play that position. He needs to start.

He needs to find a club first as he’s surplus to requirements at Venezia after his move to Fiorentina fell through. He is playing at a high level and still only 22 so I’m sure he’s in the mix for starting places. He’s also had an offer from Inter which fell through and could now be heading to Celtic which I think would be a backwards move. He’s far better off staying in Serie A. His agent doesn’t seem to be doing his best for him as he’s the main reason why those other deals fell through due to the fees he was demanding.

@@Warum.2439Yes, but clearly talented considering Inter and Fiorentina have come in for him and he would be at one of them if it wasn’t for his agent. He now looks like he might be heading to Celtic which would be the wrong move at this stage in his career. He needs to ideally be playing in one of the big leagues and maybe find a new agent.

One of the things that I’m most hopeful with Poch as USMNT coach is that he will be able to have some increased influence with the European club scene. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of our guys that were mentioned in this video…namely Gio…don’t start seeing an increase in minutes, however small, simply because Poch calls in some favors. Having Poch call a fellow coach or sporting director to ask if they could play one of our guys more or see if they could get a player in for 10 minutes in garbage time hits a bit differently than if/when Berhalter did it.

Possibly Tim Ream, depending on if he’s retiring from international duty or not. He’s still our best center back, even if he’s in MLS now. Our depth at CB is shaky, so we can’t afford to cast him out of the team if he still wants to be called up. And possibly Patrick Schulte at goalkeeper, since our GK pool is in horrific shape at the moment. Some guys need to step up.
