The reason 'double jump' perk was removed, wasn't because it made scout obsolete, it was because those who had it would be more greedy. ie. Engi's would put 1/2 as many plats cuz double jump picks up the slack, but the rest of the team can't use that staircase unless they also pick double jump. Basically making it a forced pick. Scout has more utility built in then just 'they can reach high', think about low grav. Low grav lets everyone get up high, but the arguably the player who still gets the most out of it, is scout, letting them stay off the ground for a whole mission easily. Also because jet boots will burn out after a time its more akin to the lil events in azure, where you get low grav in a section or 50% dmg resist for a few seconds, if you want the buff, you gotta keep close to the thing that gives the effect, its cute and fun, but not game breaking. My point with all that, is that jump boots aren't putting scout out of a job, not even close. Now if you wanna argue it doesn't feel like drg, or the more arcady direction the game is going in is upsetting, i'm all there too. But I think criticism needs to be pointed in the right direction if it is to be helpful--otherwise its just complaining. Personally, I like jump boots, but I don't like the idea we will get a new funny box every season, I really would rather avoid 'berserker in a box' or 'explosive barrel in a box' . . I just see it going a silly direction way too fast. I want to be optimistic. But the devs didn't do an art showcase last anniversary, which had me spinning a bit. Their time becoming a publisher certainly also took up time for season 4 as well. Again, not a crime, and if anything its a good decision for them. . but I wish they had communicated a bit better here. If they need more time to finish an update, if they were putting season 4 on hold while they did other work, GOOD. Tell us. If they have something big in the works, or hell if the game is being sunsetted--fine. Just communicate. In a vacuum, every addition to this season is great. Weapon buffs, new mini boss thing, new variants, arcade machines--In fact I see a lot of hype among newer players which is getting me excited to see a new wave of greenbeards and returning folks--all that being said. . I'm especially worried the new attention on the game will have even newer players say, 'cool, whens the next update?'. . And if the answer is another 6+ months. . I really worry about how long folks can put up with another round of silence and bitterly holding our collective breaths while we wait for . . well, we dont know. A perk update? A new Biome? I hate leaving it on such a sour note. I love this game, and i'm genuinely excited for folks who put away the game to return for awhile and for me to have a new season pass to grind--As well as updated OC's to play with. New content is fun and ill take whatever I can get!! I can't wait for the blue hair AND THERES A REALLY CUTE MUTTON CHOP COSMETIC THAT WOULD LOOK JUST ADORABLE ON ONE OF MY DWARVES AND IM HAPPY. I still disagree on the jet boots thing, but you are right about the devs being weirdly non-transparent. The whole becoming a publisher thing is probably a big factor, but it's tough when we're kinda walking around in the dark. The roadmaps become more and more vague, we see less and less and the updates are getting further and further apart. That said, you are right that there all good things coming! I really don't want to give the impression that it's all doom and gloom. There's great stuff, I just really don't like that things are slowly decreasing in quality (at least in my opinion).

Jet boots are fine, they barely show up in missions which is great cuz then they become exciting when you find them and they also dont make scout irrelevant. They arnt even that strong imo, they run out of fuel/ get overheated very fast. I'm a new player who joined at the tail end of S3 and I legit thought seasons would be about as long as an Overwatch season which is about 2 months. Seeing it's 6-8 def made S4 seem lackluster. I've been thinking though, this game is extremely friendly with it's monitization system and it's DLC stuff isnt even that amazing. Other companies pays for their live service game with predatory monetization which helps fund future updates, while DRG might be so consumer friendly that they can't push out satisfying updates? Maybe that's a shit thought, lemme know, it'd be an interesting discussion for sure

I would be fine with the arcade machine if it also included the minigames that the game has for the machine events and the hacking drones. That way players can practice those as well and give the arcade cabinet more importance other than being a flappy bird clone.

IMO, there are more noticeable bugs since the start of Season 1. I started in Update 34 and at the time, was impressed to see how I basically didn't see bugs. This is in comparison to many other games on the market that are filled with bugs (even years after launch).

@LOUDcarBOMB I think that's not really a major issue. You joined in at a time after they had finished fixing a lot of bugs and issues. It was right after a lot of major changes came through, and the last 2 updates were filled with fixes. I remember a lots of bugs from throughout the game's history. There will be periods with more or fewer bugs since new crazy features are always going to break stuff, and then it takes time to fix it.

But what I like to call the "backrooms glitch" is when you step into the drop pod landing area and fall straight through the map. It kinda sucks but its hella funny

If agonizing over balance is the thing causing them to take 3 or 4x the time they'd need for this amount of content then they're just being dumb. Throw it into experimental and let the community tell you whats wrong, better yet give limited access to the long time player youtubers who keep the game alive on YT and have them tell you since they actually understand the game unlike reddit or the discord. If thats truly whats delaying them this much then they're just being extremely dumb about it. I hope the massive delays are due to a massive content drop coming with S5, if S5 ends up being as pitiful as S3 and S4 then i guess they just stopped caring...

I get the concern with the jet boots, but having played it, the cooldown on them is pretty long so even on missions where you do get it, its not like you can constantly be using them. And to argue that they completely replace scout, couldnt you make the same argument that Bet-c replaces gunner as a dps engine? On paper the arguments make sense but in practice it just doesnt hold up imo. I do agree with the timeframes of seasons, still not too sure they switched to it instead of just linked-theme updates Edit for clarity: I do understand the concern is Scouts traversal tool being rendered useless, but the boots cant be used nearly as consistently, and you also risk taking a lot of fall damage if you overuse the boots and run out of power mid flight. Also, you need a fairly open cave for good horizontal movement, meaning Scout will still dominate in freedom of traversal

"I dont want new weapons, I dont want new biomes". Thats the one thing I've been wanting dude. New places to explore and see, new guns and overclocks to farm, new build variety. It allow for more team composition and synergy. But everything else is a reasonable thing to complain about. I feel the season format allows for the devs to think well and hard about their updates but on the other hand, it could lead to laziness with bad updates. I think GSG have done a pretty good job with the game and I got to around lvl 200 on the season for season 3 and Im playing other games waiting for season 4. With that said its kinda scary what the future for drg could mean.

I want new overclocks, but expecting new weapons in the near future is expecting too much. Adding a new gun means adding 4 new guns for each class, and each of those needs to also have a new mod tree, roughly 6 overclocks, and all the additional cosmetic frameworks and paint jobs for them. That's frankly a ton of work and I'm really not expecting anything on that level to happen again for a while

I also thought the jetboots would make some mobility tools redundant but playing with them, I realized they are very well balanced. U cant get that much height with them as to make Scout useless and they cool down very slowly so it gives u time to use your normal mobility tools.

It's also worth mentioning that comparing them to a perk is unfair when they only show up in a fraction of missions. It doesn't negate the point entirety, but I see some people saying that it "breaks" the game. I like variety, and who doesn't enjoy flying around with all the firepower of the other classes? I think I'll enjoy them.

The things me and my Dwarven co-workers would love to see are more variety of mission types and ESPECIALLY dreadnoughts. I feel like the arsenal we have now is great and doesn't necessitate additions, but man, it does get tiring to do the same things again and again, that's why, out of all new things this season, I like the new enemies best.

I appreciate each season has some lore or narrative behind it but As it is now, the game is already bloated with cosmetics, most are just recycled with a slight adjustment. Ideas are drying up The random beer has a lot of potential to expand on in future seasons. I'm really hoping to see separate Random Build Deep Dives, Exclusive Random Missions, Weekly Assignments, etc to mix things up and offer up a fresh challenge for new and old players. Plus the ability to save the random build for later if you like using it. Another interesting mode would be similar to the Challenge rift from Diablo 3 but each week a new Random beer build is chosen. A curated mission like the deep dives with a leaderboard of sorts. Will get some competition going Players want to progress and have something to work toward or chase after, like weapon overclocks. Once you get them all, its like all motivation is lost because thats all there is to do. I don't care if future seasons have "themes" I just want more of what we already like: -Armor Cores (Add a whole new way to add overclocks to armor to have additional bonuses and abilities) -Weapon Mastery that adds bonuses with each tier to help progress to higher difficulties. -More difficulty tiers = Hazard 6+ -More Player level prestige assignments/rewards -More perks, or more tiers of upgrades to the current ones -More cave segments for random generation -More Boss missions -More Mini Boss fights within missions (Like Korlok, Bet-C, etc) -More regular enemies -More OC and balance pass on lesser used ones -More Armor Skins and Colors since they are currently few in number -More Pickaxe Skins and Colors since they are currently few in number -More Biomes -More mission Types -More mission modifiers

Real. Why is there even such a focus on cosmetics? The focus should be to add more endgame goals/progression and add more variety to the gameplay. I wonder how many people would actually prefer getting 30 random cosmetics they'll never use over a new enemy. I wish they added challenging endgame raids with that requires precise cooperation with 4 players, I hate the excuse: "If we add difficult content the game will become toxic and therefore we won't add it". There is just so much potential to this game and its such a shame the direction they're currently taking the game.

Never been a fan of piling more and more stuff onto a game because it just becomes an unrecognizable mess eventually. In my experience horde shooters naturally have fluctuating player bases since most people (that ive played with at least) will binge them and then take a long break, seasons were a logical addition to keep people playing consistantly or insentivise them to come back every season for the grind, but this may be bad in the long term. Personally i hate the rockpox enemies and i almost didnt participate in the season because of them aside from the fact contagion spikes can double the time spent on an otherwise short mission, the pox status effect and infected bug's overall tankiness even on haz 1 is just frustrating and i found myself thinking about how simple things used to be and how i hope Rockpox swarms wont be added to non lithophage missions so i dont have to deal with them, the enemies and extra objective are just a pain in the ass and this is coming from someone with quite a few hours sunk into viscera cleanup detail. My problem is not with what they're adding but having the foresight to see that all this extra clutter could ruin the good thing they have going, I keep asking the question when is this all going to become too much to balance? I know everyone else wants new shiny toys and enemies to use them on and im just one of the few who have always been ok with a game's status quo, i dont need more content to keep enjoying it, after the season assignment i'll likely never see our dear friend Harold the walking plagueheart again unless its part of a weekly or promotion, just like the caretaker.

Personally I think the season format is restricting gsg I don't say that they aren't working hard and since they are an indie company they don't have as many resources as most other games but I think the allocation of those resources currently is stifling the updates. The season format forces them to create content within a certain theme so if they want to update anything major they have to stick to that theme so they also have to create that theme then they have to do a FULL season pass full of cosmetics and just between these two things alone that seems to be a lot of stuff whereas the actual content and what we are looking for is taking a backseat to this. We can no longer just have a standalone update for a certain element of the game like perk reworks or new guns or new biomes or a new endgame mode it has to be packaged with a season. For the people who are worried about power creep that only happens if dsg have the new things make the old things obsolete but we don't need new guns or biomes we need something like that can change the game a bit or add more layers.

gotta disagree with the jet boots. Verticality in DRG is a huge problem for non-scouts, and with a proper cool down they can be both useful and not-broken for classes that need it. I think it'll beneficial and more of an experimental thing. It's all about balancing. I kinda think they're taking more time now with updates since every new season has brought a lot of content that shapes the fundamentals of how DRG plays out. DRG now is far different than the one people played back in 2019. The devs have to be very careful and not fall into the classic games-as-service trap: feature creep, bloat and core meta changes that could break the game's enjoyability. The rocket boots for example, they could fuck up the meta if devs would handle it loosely. But they aren't, they're taking their time and that is reassuring imo. Instead of content, I believe DRG is focused right now in stability and cohesion. Maybe the next update will bring about a huge fundamental change that people will love. I kinda like the more grounded, slow approach that the devs are taking now. As long as they don't stall things for too long with season 5.

Yeah, I've heard from some people that the jet boots are balanced pretty well overall. I'll see for myself when the update drops. I only got to use them a little bit in the experimental and that was only in the space rig. definitely understand what you mean about feature creep. I'm a bit worried myself but we're not really far enough down that path. Still have my issues with the update and stand by my statements mostly. Looking forward to getting to play though.

jet boots are a good addition, due to it making it easier for classes other than scout to get around. scout has the flare gun, this is what it is best at providing for other players. the grapple tool, does nothing for the others. placement of rockpox on elevated places, make it difficult to work with. having the boots, makes vacuuming easier.

In my oppinion, everything rockpox related in this update already should have been there in season 3. And when they showed "teasers" of 2 new glyphid enemys I was expecting like 5 new enemys in the regular pool… turned out that these teasers were the entire season and I also have the feeling that they put too much focus on stuff that we didn’t really need or care about like the rig expansion or the randoweisser. Sure they are cool to have but all that time and effort would have been better used on a new enemy or something. It would also have resulted in 2 better updates if season 3 had everything rockpox related from season 3 and 4 and season 4 had all the non rockpox enemys together with the granades and the jet boots.

The randomizer beer is the only thing saving this season from being utterly mediocre so hard disagree there. It also takes next to no dev time to implement in reality, its just rolling a dice for all your slots. Theres dozens of very little effort additions, like the beer, they could do to massively expand replayability yet they focus on things that require a lot of dev time but offer next to no replayability.

Nah i thinks its good just enjoy the game, for the people thats has already unlocked everything in the game the update lacks of content but for those that are starting the update just adds more variety to most of the missions AND some QOL changes. For me the most content lacking part Is the equiment, the last 3 update we were getting 4 grandes,primary AND secondary weapons, now it's just some jett boots

@@shadowhaxor99 For me personally I agree with pretty much all of your points minus the seasons themes going on for two seaons. I actually really think thats what's made season 2 and 4 frustrating for me personally, even if season 2 had the really fun secondary weapons. It's been 8 months of rockpox, i dont want rockpox to be the focus anymore I am so sick of having to deal with it, sure adding content onto it helps somewhat but itll just be another month until im sick of it again. Another 8 months of rockpox could honestly be enough of a problem for me to not come back for a long time. The thing with seasons, and what killed season 2 for me, is that you're basically forced to engage with what I feel is weaker content than the simpler but more polished base game. Robots are rather annoying and unfun to fight in comparison to the bugs, lithophage can get tedious with how you have to fight the bugs and clearing the rockpox. Season 2 burned me out because every assignment I did I'd constantly get rival presence warnings cause of the increased frequency, same now with the the lithophage warnings. Its exhausting, I start to dread it everytime, the missions bleed into eachother because of the more focused angle and lack of variety these seasonal themes wiil inherently have. I just want to go back to the core simple but fun gameplay loop, thats what makes this game stick for me. They can add onto robots and lithophage all they want but it won't fix the core problem and conflicting design imho. I want season 5 to be a season that's not about some big bad new enemy, I want them to dial it back, focus on content that remains true to the formula and long-lasting. Not everything needs to be this big crazy spectacle invasion. Make it something themed to the mining or the exploration, give these constant gimmicky enemies a break, its the most refreshing thing they can do for the game at this point imo, considering they won't just drop the season format thanks to the player retention.

I think the whole "content lack despite frequent updates" thing is just the devs coming to terms with the fact that even though they're very passionate about DRG and might wanna make a Roughnecks update every six months, it's just not feasible to do it in terms of revenue, since every update is free and so (ignoring the cosmetic dlcs) the only source of revenue is new people buying the game. To me, it would seem that if, from the outside, you see that a game getd updates every 6 months and is on a season schedule which most people are familiar with, you're more likely to buy it than if you go into the steam page and see that the last update, despite stellar reviews, took two years. It's just a fact of life and if it's this or nothing i prefer this. I personally would be honestly fine if for season 5 they completely got rid of the battle pass and put their design team to work making new gameplay elements/enemies/etc instead of more cosmetics... there are so many in the game that i don't eve wanna make a cool looking dwarf because of so much decision paralysis

I think the common sentiment is the same. "Yay new stuff!" *stops playing after about a month* I think the issue of the things that they are adding is that it isn't really helping the replay-ability of the game, I really think they need to start making either fundamental changes or additions to how the game's progression works because a majority of the people who have played for a long time don't have anything to play for. I used to love the grind of unlocking the new overclocks, getting the next promotion tier and having to gather all the resources for them, which made me specifically choose missions to take because they had those minerals, now all I have left to grind for is cosmetics. Pretty much all of the game is unlocked for me and now although I enjoy a game from time to time I don't enjoy grinding it like I used to. The sad part is that I don't think they are going to add new late game stuff because they've already expressed a sentiment towards not wanting to make it even harder for new players to access all the content deep rock has to offer. That being said I have already gotten about 1.1k hours out of a game that cost me a total of like 30 dollars before cosmetics so I'm not necessarily angry that they aren't continuing at the rate they are but I am sad to see a game that I used to really enjoy become something that is almost a chore to do if I want to keep up with my friends in rank/level.

I think season 4 is really close to being perfect, if we got a few more rockpox variants, or anything more I think it'd truly be enough for the wait, I'm happy it's not as lackluster as season 3 though, like that season sucked, most of the nades excluding engineer's are extremely niche and there was barely any rockpox in the season focused on it.

Well i wana say that even tho jet boots are maybe little too mutch, it will not make scout usles, he will remain fastest, I see more of a problem with gunner because his ziplines din't have realy mutch use and now when you add something that will make crossing big holes and getting up or down eazy for rest of the team will make gunner ziplines almost completly usles scouts grapple however will remain tool that makes scout fastest

would be nice if they just announce a seasons theme and add new content that may or may not be related to said theme, throughout it. So then all the teams aren't pigeon holed into a single deadline annually for all their new ideas and content, and we get to keep the cool episodic style of seasons. #patchesAreCoolAndEngaging #seasonsAreFreeCosmeticDrops

Good point on the Jet Boots. The team work of DRG (especially the excellent Co-Op with Rando’s) is largely supported by the 4 different traversal tools. Jet Boots hurt Engineers and Gunners, as well as Scouts, to a lesser extent, in this regard. Still… complaining about free stuff is still kind of Millennial/Gen-Z whinging. Sorry spoiled generations. Did you pay for Season 4?
