Well done! As a fellow owner of a 31 year-old 635CSi, it makes me proud to see our car still conquering cars like the villainous GTI!

Bavarian Banshee I think the driver of the gti was a bit slow. He would step on it on the straigts, but in the corners he seemed to chicken out. Comparing the 6'er with the gti, they weight about the same and have about the same power, but the gti is probably better setup for this kind of driving with better wheel alignment etc. I guess he didn't have his trunk full off heavy luggage as I did, either. The gti was a bit faster on the straight's, especially uphill. He probably had manual transmission and much lower gear ratios as well, mine have very tall gear ratio with 3.07 at the differential. That equals about 100km/h in first, 150-160km/h in second, 240-250km/h in third, and 300km/h+ in fourth gear (it doesn't go that fast, though).. So obviously, the 6'er would have been a lot faster than it is if it had a more suitable gear ratio etc. The only chance I had to go past the guy in the gti was in the corners, but he only seemed to let porsche's and M3's through, although there were faster drivers behind.. If I was driving the mx5, I think he would have been an easy match 😸

Example: Picking up speed from 130-140km/h in third is heavy work for the old bmw, considering the speed this gear is capable of. It's low on revs in such situations. Automatic transmission and all, I think it did great out there. Could have had a better driver, though.

I'd say you did an excellent job out there. That transmission is really limiting though. My E24 is a manual, so it's much easier to wring out each gear and stay in the powerband. She's got some problems though, so I don't think I'll be joining you on the ring any time soon.

@@MoePower2 my friend used to have that gti, and i got also a green 635csi. I always wondered if it would beat that one and now ur vid popped up. Ye its clearly that guy was a bit newbish and doesnt know his car or the track. I mean its a 2013 car bro, our shit is like 40 years old +/-. Have u touched the 7 gtis steering wheel? Feels like a kids toy car. No emotions nothing.

@@Miller80 Yes, older cars have more soul than "todays" cars. But I guess the GTi would beat the 635 around nürburgring with a proper driver in both cars. The bmw have small brakes compared to more modern cars and too much brake power at the front compared to the rear in my opinion. Causing it to fade more easily.

What top speed did you get looks very impressive for 30 year old car
@MoePower22 жыл бұрын
Top speed was 200km/h at Nürburgring. But I have had it up to 250km/h on the autobahn, which equals closer to 240km/h on GPS.

currently in the process of refurbishing my own e24, but its a baby, with an m30b28 - however i have a manual gearbox! nice to see you put some manners on the porsche early in the video !!! if you don't mind telling, what coilovers do you have?
@MoePower27 жыл бұрын
FantasticMr.Fox Nice :) It doesn't matter it's an M30B28, it still is a E24. I actually think the B28 sounds better than the B34/B35 engines and it feels more rev happy. I've had two B28's in the past (E23's) with manual as well. I don't think the porsche at the beginning was stepping on it, but it's always fun to pass such cars on the track. I currently don't have coilovers, I have H&R lowering springs and Bilstein B8 shocks. In this video it had koni shocks, and the front one's was rather shot.. The car stiffened up a lot with the B8's. Everything else except wheels is stock. Wish I had bigger swaybars thought, it roll to much.

MoePower2 too cool! Yeah the b28 does rev out nicely, I haven't had any experience with a b35 yet! I think you can get by racing Coilovers now, I'm going to be looking into themfor sure, though I have previous experience with bilstein before and they are tip top!!!

Those tires sure aren’t happy taking those curves.

Had 3 toyo T1-R tires and 1 hankook tire on the car because of a puncture a few days earlier (only tyre I was able to get the same day, while travelling through Denmark the day of the puncture). That tyre was pretty hard and screamed a lot more than the others. It didn't impress me, to say the least.

Looks very well your hi glossy red CSi :o) I share you opinion about your sightseeing tour. I would never drive my car on the Nordschleife, I saw many clips here on YT which a moron crashed in the back of a car and ruined that. I was in the 90's with my bike sometimes on this track and can say I HATE THE ADENAUER FORST :o) Greetings
@MoePower25 жыл бұрын
Thank you! :) Yes, I took it easy out there considering I live so far from the track. Brakes on these cars are too strong at the front compared to the rear, so they fade quite easily at the track. Engine is a bit worn as well, so I can't really use the engine for braking at higher rpm. I guess that put some extra stress on the brakes, that mostly had to do the job on their own :) I'd love to visit the Nürburgring again, but with a more suited car. I have a turbo MX5 I'd love to test on that track, but I guess I'd have to upgrade the brakes on that car as well, to handle the extra power. Nürburgring is harsh on the brakes.
