Stick with it guys, you're both doing an amazing job. My kids were camping with me from the age of 3 months, and 12 years later i was crossing the Simpson with my son. The outdoors, the noises, smells, sights, the dirt, the dark and the isolation is now part of their DNA as a result.

Well, good for you for trying with Bill at that age. You’re clearly a great team, which helps. Nice to see Sam again! I think there’s some golden youtube content here about living that life with a baby!

Thanks, Harry, Sam. You did an excellent job. We had 3 Gromets, all in their mid-thirties now. Our best friends were Panadol, and Bonjela as they got older. We took them camping all the time to Rainbow and Fraser Is. And now 2 of them are doing the same thing with their kids. Keep it up, it will get easier.

Young dad with a young kid here. We took our little one camping for the first when she was roughly the same age as Bill in the vlog. You did everything right. It's a terrible feeling when bubba isn't well & you can't figure out what's wrong. Having quick access to medical professionals at that age is essential. And also having that second trip that you didn't film was the perfect things to do. You're an awesome team and I'd love to see more family camping trips of yours.

I absolutely commend you for making a go of camping with a new born. It is certainly a very steep learning curve just attempting to continue a normal life with a new born, let alone off grid. Don't give up, you WILL figure out what works for your little family. My wife and I kept our camping life going when our kids were born and had our ups and down, but made it work. Fast forward 24 years later and I'm currently cheering my daughter on as she and her new boyfriend are gearing up for a quick weekend camping trip in his RTT and cargo trailer. The forcast for them is pure cold nonstop rain. Neither of the two are even bothered by that, as they both grew up in the PNWet of Oregon. They are both very experienced tent campers, can cook on any kind of heat source, and have more than enough camping gear between the two of them to build a small village with. Cheers to you mate from across the world!

Absolutely your best episode yet! The whole episode, my wife and I were relating to your every experience. Showing the highs of life is great, but showing real life lows is something else. Such a raw and real camping experience. And to finish it off with a beautiful escape after such a stressful experience, was why this is your best episode yet. Thanks for sharing. Loved every second.

Great piece thanks. We took our infant son (Jul '88) to Cradle Mountain (it snowed Dec '88) when he was six months old and took our son and daughter (Dec '90) to the NT when she was six months old in Jul '91 - effin cold but the infants did OK. Wifey is a RN and Midwife since the early '80s. This is my 39th year in the Army, so between us, we all looked after each other :) The kids grew up saying "Dad, you never took us anywhere" ;) They went everywhere until they left home!

Great video! Keeping in real is the way to go, sometimes with kids things don’t go to plan and that’ ok. Love that you both followed your instincts and made the right call to head home, our kids worst illnesses have often started with crappy nights and unsettledness it’s always days later that it all makes sense, I’m glad he’s feeling better. Great work Sam, and thanks for normalising breastfeeding and being brave enough to do it on camera, keep up the hard work ❤️

Oh! One tip I would like to provide anyone reading the comments that has a toddler and has issues with getting them to sleep at night without a fight. While there is still daylight left in the day, make a race track clear of things that cause injury and have them run the race track over and over. Or make an obstical course for them to crawl over and under things. This burns down their spare energy and they will conk out solid (at least my kids did). When it's actually bed time, have them lay down quietly and try to list off as many animals and/or things as they can that they saw today. This will tire them out as well.

Thier child might be a bit young? He probably had an issue like a cold coming or maybe he was cold or maybe just scared. Who knows. I do agree in principle ours won't go down if not sleepy so we don't try, when he is tired it's instant.

I was 12 hours old when i went camping for 2 months, back then we didn't have all the fancy stuff, I did the same with both my kids and just remember you are the ones that know Bill the best so you are the ones to make the call. You made the right call and blaming yourselves for Bill being sick is wrong. Shit happens and you did the right thing.. Love the family vids but remember family time is family time as you are out in the spotlight all the time so some memories don't need to be shared with the world.. Diesel heater you can't go wrong!! Perfect and even the cheaper ones from Ebay are good. Word of advice don't go a 2kw go a 5kw. Great video
@ecithump3 жыл бұрын
Yep you got the first thing about camping with young kids down already, be OK with leaving if you have too and not make them push through it. It feels like kids always have the habit of getting sick on holidays or just before (which has you stressing do we, don't we about going), and if it's not yours it will be someone's you're travelling with. Just stay flexible and keep doing it. The exposure from young does help, it does get better, and the memories are 100% worth it.

Not that I have kids yet but I'm honestly really interested in how you guys go camping with a young one. Would be sweet if this time next year you did a video talking about what you have learnt and how everyone else can making camping with infants/ young kids better. Everyone I know who loves camping that has just had kids always seems to say "na we cant go because of the kido". Would love to see what you all learn so I can hopefully persuade those mates to bring the kid along but also for when we do start to have a family we can keep camping as a option for us rather than just putting it into the to hard basket for a few years. Keep up the good work!

Great to see you guys giving a real world perspective as to camping with young babys. As a father of 4 i give you so much credit putting yourself out there knowing how many karens love a good parenting judging competition. Something very satisfying about camping with kids when you get it right I run a $300 5kw Chinese diesel heater in our camper. Have had a few and mostly get a few years out of them. They have a big following now so parts are really easy to get. Or its $2000+ for a brand name that do the same thing but more reliable id imagine. Use about 1-2 ltrs over night holding the camper at about 24 degrees

That park looked like a little Dutch camping village with all those A vans. Great effort sticking it out so long with the off bub. My young fella is now 6 and a half and has given us a run for our money a few times. Enjoy this time while it lasts, once it's gone (and you won't even notice until it is) it's gone. Kids are great and open you up to so much more of yourselves you didn't know was there, but they are always changing (growing and learning) so you hardly get a chance to enjoy them or realise before they are different again.

Mate, that was a great video. I love the warts and all approach. There’s a universal truth about being a first time parent, and that’s that regardless of how many books you read about it, or how much advice you’ve been given, we ALL have to learn how to do it as we traverse the minefield. From what we saw in this video, you guys are doing a wonderful job and Bill is in good hands. I hope we see a lot more so Sam and Bill in the future.
