Just drove myself without a fully licensed driver with me for the first time. It worries me how calm I was, but I was always careful, and it's good to be a confident driver.

Your first tip there - get used to the clutch rings very true with me. I bought a car after I had passed my test, picked it up and drove to pick up my other half from work. Stalled 7 times at traffic lights in rush hour due to it having a slightly different biting point to the car I learned in. I started to panic too which didn't help! It left me very embarrassed and shaken. I had P plates on so I think this made people a bit more patient than they otherwise would have been, so would defo recommend getting some of them!

Only passed my test a few days ago and I picked up my car yesterday, drove a 25 minute journey home by myself. As soon as I left I was faced with a few roundabouts, then straight onto a slip road onto the dual carriageway! At first it was scary but once you start going you feel a lot calmer and you gain confidence. I think the sooner you make yourself go out onto the road by yourself the better. I was dreading this journey but was glad I did it. Also I was in a car I wasn't used to and it was petrol unlike my instructors car. 😂 Thanks for the advice, great video!

I passed my driving test yesterday with 4 minor faults, Yay!! I just wanted to say a huge thank you for making your videos, they helped me emensly in achieving my pass. When I would have a bad driving lesson day, despite my excellent driving instructor ( I was a passenger in a serious RTA, so put off learning to drive for some time, and was quite nervous ) spiral roundabouts were my nemesis : ) I would come home and watch your videos, calm down, build on my knowledge and just get "back on that horse”, so Thank you. Your comments in the above video are on the nail. I learnt to drive in a Diesel 1.5 Ford Fiesta, but have bought a petrol 1.2 Fiat 500, and for the first 15 mins it was like learning to drive again….but after that, it was all good again, so great advice as always.

Indicators must be broken on a lot of cars round where I live. I've never came across as many drivers out there with no manners in my life. The other week, I was approaching traffic lights which were red. I was slowing down, there was a guy speeding in the middle lane to my right & I said to my son who was with me 'that guys going to go through a red light'. But what did he do instead at the last minute? Cut in in front of me at the traffic lights, while they were on red. Now if that had been a few seconds earlier there would have been an unavoidable collision. My daughter who was in the back of my car said 'mum what is up with the way that person is driving?' I said who knows? What an idiot. I wasn't impressed...so now I'm going to invest in a dash cam...

People braking in front of you is the ultimate piece of information when forward planning. We like to call them 'spotters' in advanced driver training. Braking can tell you a lot about upcoming hazards and if a car will stop without signalling. What you learn when you drive alone is nobody drives to what you are taught and you need to build up perception on roundabouts where nobody is signalling or when driving on the road many drivers do things wrong. It is annoying, but it is a skill you build up over time. Good tips are Remember never to overtake when approaching any form of junction, do shoulder checks in merge and turn or joining faster roads and be careful of your speed when approaching reduced limit points.

I was quite excited when I drove my new car for the first time. My dad dropped me off and I drove away in it after finishing the paperwork. I wasn't nervous at all. I think after 5 tests and a year of learning to drive I knew that I was confident to drive on my own. I still have moments where I do forget things or I mess up and I hold my hands up to them. I had P plates on my car and people still treated me like they do a learner driver. Getting right on my bumper and cutting me up. Like they do now. I wouldn't change driving so save my life even a year later. In a few years time I want to train to be an instructor. I've said this ever since I was learning and my instructor even said that he would train me to become an instructor

Learn-to-drive Travis thanks. It would be brilliant if I could. I would be able to take my experience of failing my test many times and getting so close but one little mistake cost me. I knew a lot of my theory when I was learning. My instructor once told me I knew more theory than some PDIs he was training. Don't know how true that one is but I made sure I was getting a high score in my theory mock tests. When I got to 10 100% in a row I knew I had to put in for it

Love your vdos and have been watching and recommending them, since I started taking driving lessons in the beginning of this year. I passed my driving in the last week of June. Having no idea about cars,I had to change my first car due to having a problem in spark plug. Then went for the better one. Went on driving with my husband who doesn't drive but was an awesome critique to shake my nerves on motorway. Recommended me to take lessons again as my car stalled numbers of time 🤧. I stayed confident and thought to go for lessons as I've got young kids and didn't wanna take risk. I learnt to drive just for them as their school is 4 miles away from where we live. Anyway! My instructor came the following day. She was shocked to find out that, I needed lessons as none of her learner did so in the past. After test drive on my car, Which I requested her to do, she declared that fault is nowhere in my driving but it's my car again 😓. The speedometer sensor cable needed to be changed and there's possibility to have a bit of issue with gear box too. I'm going in to too much detail just to give everyone confidence out there who's just passed. Don't take stress from others and try to stay confident. I'm learning quite a lot through my experience though🤗. Waiting for the happy ending now 😀

Good advice - I've been driving for three months now. Can't drive on my own as my husband has to be in our Motability car and f things have changed a lot since he drove. I stick out as a new driver because I indicate! Clutch control was one of the most useful things I learned : there's a lot of queuing and suicidal cyclists where we live. Learn-to-drive Travis, thank you for all your videos. They helped me a great deal when I was learning especially as I couldn't practise between lessons. Your calm attitude made me feel I can do this! I passed a few weeks ago, but feel very nervous about driving. Where I am it's very rural, and to get onto the main road I have to drive up a windy long road which feels about a metre wide with small ditches on either side and blind bends every few metres. Sometimes people don't mind driving at speed around these blind bends. Coming across a tractor where there is no layby for me to reverse expertly into is very difficult for a new driver. I do feel in the deep end with this, but determined not to let it beat me. It's scary though. :-)

I passed my test on Fri 5th October, it was my third crack at the test since the back end of July. The most amazing part is that my theory pass was due to run out on Sat 6th October, so if I hadn't passed the day before, i'd have been right back to square one with having to do my theory again. Thankfully that wasn't necessary, and I obviously drove confidently and competently enough to impress the examiner to pass me :-D I did however have 3 speed marks on my results sheet, the examiner did say to me that if i'd had one more i'd have failed, and this has made me want to be even more wary of not going over the speed limit, which was a bit of a weakness of mine all through my lessons this year. Also, the first test I had that I failed back at the end of July, I failed it due to a speed issue, I was going into a 30mph zone from a 40mph and just didn't see the sign...instant failure! There was then another issue where I didn't see a 20mph sign in a side road....since then it has made me more wary of all the road signs, and just being aware of everything around me. As for driving on my own, i'm lucky enough to be able to drive my Dad's old car, a 20 plus years old Nissan Micra, and all last week I was driving to work and back on my own which felt great, but I must admit I was a little nervous before setting out on the Monday for the first time...but i'm fine now :) Little journeys is the key definitely, getting yourself used to the roads and just being on your own. I haven't yet driven on the motorway, and I admit I find that a little daunting, but I will probably get a family member to help me with that, just to get used to it. These videos are certainly most helpful, and you explain things easily, and help to put people at ease...thank you :)

Hi, at this time of year on the run up to Christmas you will find lots more drivers on the roads than 8 weeks ago, trying to speed around and take silly risks. Passed my test last month and got my car a few days ago.. driving home alone was so scary! Feel like I'm getting there getting used to the clutch etc. Then had someone beep at me and overtake me today. Made me feel scared.

Am i right in thinking that speed cameras and police let you off up to 32 on a 30?
@JamesTravis7 жыл бұрын
That used to be the norm. But I keep hearing that the local councils are informing the Police to cut the level of tolerance.
@wumpty937 жыл бұрын
it used to be 10% plus 2mph. Now it's something like 3mph over before your risking it
@adammoorby997 жыл бұрын
Learn-to-drive Travis not that i'm planning on speeding just wasn't sure what the tolerance was :)
@raheem_._6816 жыл бұрын
I went to a speed awareness course. They mentioned that the clocks on your car are not real speed if your doing 32/33 your normally doing 30mph. Don’t know if it’s true.

I past my driving test in beginning of February i got car end of April. I am really nervous driving on my own problem with me don't have confidence. What do i do to build up my confidence
@JamesTravis6 жыл бұрын
Short drives out of rush hour to places that you know. If things don’t improve over time, an hour refresher lesson with your instructor will help.

what's the difference between servicing a car and doing a health check?
@JamesTravis6 жыл бұрын
A service covers numerous checks and oil change, air filter change, usually what the manufacturer recommends at least once a year. A health check sounds similar, I could be wrong. A lot would depend on the company offering it.

Adam is right. But try to focus on keeping yourself doing something. If you are driving along, use a routine of; Check up road Check mirrors Check speed If you find a quiet patch on your driving use all 3. Good luck on test

Narrate to yourself what's happening up ahead and behind and even to the sides. An inner monologue if you will, I still find myself doing it now.

Ok so i passed 3 weeks tomorrow and i still get quite nervous would it be sensible to wait till im confident to venture out further ? I feel if im going to be too nervous i will make lots of mistakes obviously do not want to crash or cause any accidents ... so nerve wracking driving on your own ! Especially when theres so many idiot drivers about ... 4 days on a trot ive heard about hit and runs and car crashes makes me even more nervous especially as i have my little girl in the car with me x
@JamesTravis6 жыл бұрын
I would try and get out every day. Just drive around the area where you live and the roads that you know. Keep the driving simple and stick to 15 to 20 minutes of driving. Try not to think about the idiot drivers out on the roads, its the same in every country. Good luck
