The instrument is a Qobyz or Kobyz.. you should google about it because it’s really fascinating. It’s said to possibly be the 1st stringed instrument. It’s carved from 1 piece of wood & 2 strings made of horse hair. It was considered very sacred & used by shamans. I love the way Dimash weaves heritage back into music in new & satisfying ways. You will also love to see the Qobyz featured in a traditional folk song very meaningful to Dimash - Samaltau 👉You must see the Tokyo Jazz festival version, & if you want to treat yourself also the 2021 digital show version. Also, he codirected his music video for the 1st time, during quarantine he filmed & released Qairan Elim- inspired by what’s happening in the world & losing 2 mentors to Covid. The Qobyz, the song & the video are very much his heart & prayer for the world. So looking forward to your journey!💜

It was created by Russian songwriter Igor Krutoy, and the lyrics were written by American poetess Sharon Vaughn. The main arrangement was made by Dimitris Kontopoulos (Greece) and Yerlan Bekchurin (Kazakhstan). Igor Krutoy said, “It was Dimash’s talent that inspired me to write this song, his immense vocal abilities and his desire to sing for a large international audience. Franky, I don’t see anyone else who could perform this piece in such a way.” The solo instrument heard at the beginning is called a kobyz which is an ancient Kazakh instrument. The idea to add the kobyz to this song came to Dimash after he first heard the tune of “Stranger”. The singer realised that the folk instrument would fit perfectly into the song, giving it an exquisite sound. Dimash has always been anxious to popularise traditional Kazakh music. So, he really wanted the kobyz to be played on a big stage like Sochi’s New Wave Hall Dimash said, “We invited our talented friend Olzhas Qurmanbek to perform the kobyz in “Stranger”, because he is considered the best kobyz player, who managed to fully convey the emotions and character of the song. Thanks to him the song got its outstanding and unique sound. I’ve always dreamed of the kobyz to be heard in my foreign collabs.”

Hi Mr Incredible, glad to see you again. What’s weird is I could’ve sworn I subscribed to you already but it shows me unsubscribed. So here’s me subscribing again! Thanks for persevering around the copyright issues. BTW you have a total ASMR voice ☺️ At some point you need to see his 2nd iteration of Stranger, that he performed recently on a Chinese show. The sound quality isn’t as good, & he had time & performance constraints- however what he does with it is something you can’t miss. And, when you want yet another side of him- He premiered this song Stranger at New Wave one night, & Ave Maria you saw he closed New Wave. In between he premiered another new song, also unlike quite anything we’d seen him do before👉 Fly Away. You strike me as someone who can appreciate his mastery at a deeper level, & one of those levels is experiencing what he does with the same song, depending on his mood 😏✨🦄

When Dimash went into the cultural melisma ( if that’s what it’s called ) the 2nd performance of this song , the way be begins the first part of it , his approach instantly grabbed me and the build up floored me completely. I could listen to him vocalise this way all day . “ Know “ ( vocalise version ) has been in my top five favorites as it is . “ Stranger “ ( first version) captivated me and the second time he performs it took me to a level I didn’t think possible. I thought I was in the realm of epic the first time. The 2nd? 🤯 I can’t imagine what he will do . It seems redundant or futile to describe what he does in ways that wouldn’t sound all “ Stan fan” . * on the chance he might do Schubert’s “ Ave Maria” I’ve absolutely no doubt his name would go down in history with the likes of Maria Callas and literally every historic opera singer . His mark would be forever THE version world known forever . His name would be synonymous with a world renowned masterpiece by default. The fact he can switch into pop easily then into Kazakh tradition and classical then essentially wherever he wants to go makes him a literal unicorn . He’s a living myth writing his legend. It may be possible he introduces us to new concepts slowly because we might not be able to handle it . Think of that -imagine having such an ability you’d have to expose the audience in doses . What is he holding back we have yet to witness and what awaits us in the future ? It’s almost scary. Most beautifully terrifying isn’t it ? I wish I could be this great at anything in life .

Could’ve written every word myself (well almost- I get what stan means but I don’t understand where it came from- just seemingly appeared overnight everyone saying it haha). I have lived a pretty interesting life. Included in that is knowing and being around every big star in Hollywood at one point in time. I’ve been with people more famous. I am not & never have been a fan girl, or get star struck. And- well it’s clear I’m in the same boat as you here. Yes when reactors or critics think he’s showing off- I’m like- No! He’s like the most insane thoroughbred, & he’s doing what he was born to do. THAT is not him showing off! Yeah I don’t know the right word for the “cultural melismas” as you call them. Because while he bases things off techniques he’s learned, he transmutes everything he does into something new & available only in his universe. There will be imitators & people inspired by him just like people inspired by MJ, but there will be only one, because it’s his artistry more than any one aspect that leads him & the way he paints with sound is entirely unique. I think he’s a true savant. He hears sees breathes & dreams of sound. Not just music, but sound- which is why I think he’s so good at how he uses his breath & silence. I also think he works with energy- whether or not he realizes it, not sure. All of it to me is because he is aligned & keeps an integrity of character & conscience that allows him to be a vessel for truths & true heart that the world needs right now. I could obviously go on & on, as could you.. bottom line is- there is no other artist more deserving of mega stans than this man. Though I’ll never be the kind of dear who has a shrine to him or begs for autographs, I care for him in a way I’ve never felt for someone I do not personally know. ✨Speaking of those melismas- You must of course have seen Dimash’s variations with him playing around in lead ups to Autumn strong, right? I’ll try to find the video I saw, but London Autumn strong & several others (think only fancams)- just blow me away. The other thing about our Di are the layers & layers of sensory satiation he is. I find deep pleasure in studying the faces & empathically connecting with humans in say a documentary or well acted film. Deep pleasure in watching a graceful or fierce dancer, obviously deep pleasure in not just music but sound resonance & frequencies. He fills all these needs & more you didn’t know you have, things that there aren’t really words for. I think it unsettles many people, & some just aren’t ready for it & it’s easier to dumb him down to just a spectacle.

@@ssshadowwolf6762 I’m currently pretty frustrated because the 1st version I’m thinking of he’s on the floor in the crowd & of course I can’t find that one 😔 all 4 of these are separate concerts even though he’s got same clothes in 2. For me I could watch every variation… I wish he would release a whole series of albums of just his vocalises!! Like- I’d pay whatever price for him to just voice record on an iPhone whenever he feels like playing with his voice. No special sound mixing lol. Just put out the album of iPhone voice recordings. The one who appears playing the piano is Igor Krutoy, author of the music for this song. Krutoy, a Russian musician, pianist and producer, returned to work precisely when he learned about Dimash's voice and potential and is now one of his great composers. The author of the lyrics is Sharon Vaughn (USA) and the man who plays the Kobyz (traditional string instrument from Kazakhstan) is Olzhas Qurmenbek. This masterpiece performed masterfully by Dimash, choir and orchestra could not have had a better result.

I think you would like Dimash singing Love Is Like A Dream...the older one. He goes extremely deep and then, of course, very high. One of my favorites by him. If you need another Pentatonix song to react to I recommend Carol Of The Bells from the Christmas Under The Stars Concert. It is absolutely amazing! Mitch doesn't breathe the whole song (at least I can't see where he does)...pure amazing and beautiful. Also their My Heart With You is pure genius. Merry Christmas!! Sending you love from Texas!
