This "strange tool" is called KUBYZ. This is an ancient Kazakh folk instrument, which only virtuoso masters are allowed to play. Everyone turns off the video before Dimash thanks the kobyz player, so I want to give a shout out to him--Olzhas Kurmanbek--Dimash says he is the best in the world. His solo playing sets up the mood and mysteriousness of the piece right from the very beginning. Igor Krutoy, (the piano player--a famous Russian composer) of course wrote the music specifically for Dimash (I mean, who else could sing this?) I like Dimash's mid-range the best too.

Thank you for editing and uploading this reaction. The team for Dimash's channel have become very strict. Some performances that are years old are all of a sudden getting blocked. That instrument is called a "kobyz/qobyz". It is said to have been used by shamans and spiritual medics to banish evil spirits, sicknesses, and death. And it sounds damn awesome, lol. Dimash also has this instrument in "Qairan Elim" and "Samaltau" (The one in the studio), played by the same artist, Olzhas Kurmanbek.

Kobyz is an ancient tool of the Kazakh people. It was used in ancient times by steppe shamans-healers for various rites. Kobyzy is made from a single piece of wood. This is one of the oldest ways of making musical instruments in the history of mankind. It is not due to technical backwardness or the lack of metal devices. According to the ancient beliefs of many people, only in a single piece will the living singing soul of the tree remain, which will sound in the instrument. The open body and strings of the kobyz from a bunch of 30-60 untwisted horse hair give a very thick, overtone-rich timbre. 🔝🔝🔝

i love that long descending phrase that shows up several times in the song. I agree with you about his mid range. That last note is about 20 seconds long. and I agree with you about living life through a phone camera. Igor Krutoy is his collaborator. (â Russian mega-producer of music and composer.

The sets on these stages lately from his videos seem to put all other concerts around the world to shame. Boy they are far ahead of us here in the US. and the US music scene is dead flat now too. It's all about showing flesh and coria graphed dance steps and of course, the ole facial looks, lol. Singing sounds like elementary aged boys and girls singing monotone notes. I agree with every word. When Dimash was being featured on MTV in recent months it was apparent that the music of the others being featured was mediocre at best, vulgar at worst. Dimash's music and performances were/are in a league of their own.
