Good job. Never normally comment on safety but speaking to my fenser today who's son took a hight tensile wire right through the pupil. luckily mist the reterner but Now has one blue eye and thanks to the surgeon has one big black hole in the other but can still see. Please keep your eyes safe.

Dont forget the safety glasses when working with that wire. It can very easily flick up, especially when you cut it. Or even when you bend down to pick something up it can all to easily end up in an eye. Stay safe. Great effort for your first go 👍

Glad to see it’s not only me that has a set of moderately-rusty chisels. Mine sit at the bottom of my tool box for when I need to give something some real welly but don’t want to use my properly honed chisels! I’ve even used them for knocking-off bits of extraneous concrete 😂

I seem to remember that when making Star Wars the FX guys used high tensile cables to produce the blaster sound. They would hit it and they got a similar sound to you.

No way! Thought it was just me being childish. I ping them as I walk past most days. 😂

mate, that sound from hitting the wire is what they used to make the blaster sound in the first star wars film!

No pressure, but imagine how stuck the bridge materials will be after over-wintering in pasture... Otherwise, I'm ever more impressed with y'alls work! My husband is more and more convinced that we can DIY our garage, just watching y'all.

Don't be to keen to stretch your fence wires too tight because when the temperature drops the wire will contract. I remember being told "Never tension fence wires in hot weather ". Also, there is a hand tool for "Wrapping" the wire end around the wires length, I found a good quality ring spanner works just as well. I can't remember the spanner size but it it was around 13 mm, simply put the wire end through ring spanner and slide the spanner down to the wires length and rotate the spanner 360 degrees 4 or 5 times. The best way to cut short any unwanted bits is to "Nic" the wire (file, Dremmel )and bend back and forth till it breaks.

Excellent work - just about to start mine so this came at a very appropriate time. Could do with a set of those wire strainers/crimpers. 👍🏻

Very true! Can’t wait to get it done as once we start the house build we won’t have time to dedicate to things like fencing and pipes etc. 👍

Have you sen the staple guns that electricians use to staple wire to concrete ? Might be useful on those hardwood posts.....

You will find posts in hedges will fly in as the ground is so loose and to a degree, fence lines. Still worth making a hole to check for roots/stones but no need to widen it much. The higher fields will be more of a workout.

Just a random thought…How about asking the people who are coming on the planting weekend to help carry the poles over to the where you need them…Many hands make light work. The fence is looking great, you clearly took notice while the other fence went up.

The truck and trailer can do most of the work but if we miraculously plant all in record time we can work on other projects. 👍

Have you thought about a little post knocker for the back of the massey? Might be something usable out there for you and its got to be better than doing it by hand 😂
@diyfarm

We have a handheld petrol machine to try next week, ground not hard so should be fine. Access is poor in the next field for a small tractor but should be able to get the big posts put in. Most small post drivers for tractors only adjust one way so not well suited for slopes and banks. 😟
