I love how she staged the video to mimic Robert Palmers 'Addicted to love' where he had clonelike women with guitars behind him as he sang, using them like props. My son had cerebral palsy, he couldn't walk , talk, sit up, or feed himself. But he loved country music and would get all excited when certain ones came on T.V.... especially Shania, she was his favorite and almost couldn't control himself. His school would get a kick out of it so they wrote a letter to Shania and in return she sent us 4 free tickets. At the concert, soon after she came out, I thought he was going to pass out and had to take him out for some air. Some young guys in our row got a kick out of him too and asked if they could take him up to the stage. The next thing I see is my son up in the air in his wheelchair with these 4 guys lifting him up so Shania didn't have to bend down to touch his hand. It was the best night of his short life.

Regarding the Parks and Rec...my husband was a letter carrier. He had a radio that hung around his neck, so anyone could hear his music. He went into a funeral home to deliver the mail. There was a funeral in progress and here comes this mailman with "I'm Henry VIII I Am" blaring on his radio. They all turned to look and he stopped dead in his tracks. He quickly turned off the radio, delivered the mail, muttered an apology and got the heck out of there!

I'll never forget being in a club, handful of people on the dancefloor, most people sitting at tables or at the bar, just drinking and chatting while the music is playing...then all of a sudden, over the speakers..."duh-duh, duh-duh-duh, dunt-dunt" and in less time than it takes to draw a breath, the entire dance floor would be covered by every woman in the club...dancing together, and singing word-for-word along with Shania. It was the ultimate woman's anthem of that era...it was the one song the DJ could play to guarantee mass participation on the dance floor. Usually it was followed up by "I Touch Myself" by The Divinyls...which ushered in another mass sing-a-long from the ladies. Man I miss those days.

Robert Palmer was an artist with hits starting in 1974. Still making new music in the 2000's. He teamed up with the bass player and guitarist of Duran Duran in a band called Powerstation. He did 2 videos with models pretending to play the instruments similar to this. Addicted to Life and Simply Irresistible. The drummer in Powerstation was from a band called Chic, also from the 1970's. Their songs, Le Freak, Everybody Dance, and Good Times were popular in the Disco Era. Powerstation covered the T Rex song Get It On (Bang a Gong). They had their original music as well with Some Like It Hot and Still in Your Heart. The band only did 2 albums while Duran Duran was taking a break in the mid 80's. It was an interesting bunch. Disco drummer, lounge singer*, and a couple of axemen from pop. *Not really sure what to call him. He always wore a suit and his tunes were a mix of soul, pop, jazz and blues. Not quite a lounge act like Frank Sinatra, but his style reminds me of that vibe.

One of Shania's hardships that rarely gets talked about happened when she was only 21 or 22. Her parents died in a car accident and left behind her 2 younger brothers and 2 younger sisters. The powers that be wanted to split up the 4 kids and put them in various foster homes. Shania refused to let this happen and was determined to keep everybody together. At that young age she basically became their mother. She became their legal guardian and finished raising them. For the next few years, she supported everybody by singing at a resort near where they lived and took care of her siblings until they reached adulthood. In addition to all her beauty and talent, she's a genuinely good human being.
