Such a unique and great piece of music. Benny delivers a fantastic performance of it in ABBA The Movie. One of their masterpiece instrumentals, Arrival and When The Waves Roll Out To Sea being the two other instrumentals of ABBA, both hauntingly beautiful.

This song highlights Benny's love for classical music. Was there anyone in the early 70s mixing classical and rock together? Dramatic and whimsical at the same time. A precursor to the genius of Electric Light Orchestra to come. Quite possibly an inspiration to every Mannheim Steamroller song ever. lol

It sure was :) Ekseption from Holland was one group that made classical music arranged as rock-jazz around 1968-74. They were pretty popular here in Sweden, so Benny could well have been inspired by them. But I certainly don't know for sure, as there were other groups as well (like Jethro tull and so on).

They would use this during their live shows so the girls could go and do a costume change. Benny would be on stage banging the piano like a madman. Watch the live version from their Australian Tour in 1977.

Another instrumental they wrote is Arrival. It sounds like bagpipes but it in fact violins that are crafted in Sweden with a unique sound. Not as fast beat as Intermezzo no1 but invokes a lot of imagery of the mind.

In their concerts Benny played this song before the Mini Musical so Frida had the chance to change clothes, too, after Agnetha already did it during "Why Did It Have To Be Me".

In 1984 Benny and Bjorn released a concept album called "Chess" with lyrics by Tim Rice (Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, etc.). It later was staged as a musical on Broadway. It is about a chess tournament an American and Soviet chestmaster during the cold war. I'd love to see your reaction to a song from the musical called "One Night in Bangkok" by Murry Head, which was a hit in the 80's.

Tyler & Marissa....I hope at some point, you can do a reaction to "ABBA Undeleted." It is a 24 minute track that has many unfinished works, along with some of their famous songs differently produced and includes conversations (in Swedish) between the 4 band members. Perhaps you could break it up into three 8 minute segments. But I would really love seeing and hearing your reviews on these hidden gem "pieces of masterpieces!!" Intermezzo is generally a piece that fits between two other musical pieces. It can mean a break between two scenes or acts that may not a have a break.

Yes, actually the translation from Italian is "interlude". You can also put an intermezzo between two acts of a play or two halves of a film.

I'm glad you like it. I wasn't sure you would as an instrumental. The lyrics are "Do dee do dee do dee do dee doo, diddle liddle dee, dee dee do" The track also appears in ABBA The Movie. They used to play it live, giving the ladies time to change outfits I think.
