The singer, Randy Bachman' brother (Robbie) stutters and he sang it this way joking around and they agreed this was the best version. Love me some BTO.

I think Gary was the brother who had a stutter. I’m quite sure it wasn’t Robbie.

It was Garry who stuttered, they are from my home town of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. There are four Bachman brothers. Garry was not happy about the song. Randy wrote it to tease Garry and threatened they were going to put it on their next album. They used the song as a warm up piece in the studio. As it turned out, the next album they recorded was short one song. Their manager suggested using it, without the stutter. It did not sound as good without, so they put the stutter back in. It was a huge hit and Garry forgave them.

Randy’s brothers is the drummer Robbie and he sadly passed away January 11, 2023 it was a on other younger brother Gary that stuttered and was with the group BTO at the beginning..

Yes it was Gary Bachman who had the stutter, all four of the Bachman brothers were associated with BTO, Randy was lead guitarist and vocalist, Tim was rhythm guitarist and vocalist on three of their albums, Gary was the bands manager in their early years. Gary later made his fortune in the real estate business. Only Randy and Tim are still alive as of March 2023.

BTO has a lot of good tunes. Thanks for the reaction. There's a story about the stutter. Not sure I know it well, but something about the guy's cousin or nephew having a stutter and him jokingly copying it. At first they were not going to release this version, but they did and the rest is history.

Randy Backman was originally with a Canadian group called Guess Who. You should check out some of their songs as well. These Eyes, American Woman are both bangers.

BTO….my hometown boys, Winnipeg , Manitoba Canada. Bachman is pronounced “ Back…man “, very popular 80’s rock band. Randy Bachman put the stutter in the song as a tease for his brother Gary, who did have a stutter.

The song was featured on the 1974 B.T.O. Album "NOT FRAGILE"... a collection of early Canadian metal and hard rock tunes by Randy, his brother and Fred Turner, that was intended as a reply to the perceived pretentiousness of progressive rock and of YES album "Fragile" in particular. Not Fragile has a lot of great tunes, but they were considered "too heavy" for AM radio play, so the record company demanded the group come up with one simpler, lighter "throw away" song , in order to try to get traction on the top 40 chart. "You Aint Seen Nothing Yet" was never intended to be on the album, it was an incomplete tune that had remained on the shelf. They hit the ball out of the park with it.. "Not Fragile" went triple platinum.

It’s complicated! He grew up pronouncing it Back-man. But when BTO started getting their songs on the radio in the USA, American DJs pronounced it Bock-man. By the time they started touring in the USA, there was no point in fighting it. So Randy calls himself Back-man in Canada and Bock-man in the USA. 8-).
