Don't worry... many Band-Maid songs get the initial reaction of "I like it but it didn't impress me"... the thing with Band-Maid is that they have different compositions for different tastes. This specific Manners song has a groove that most rock lovers enjoy but metal heads don't necessarily love...

It’s one of those perfect rock songs, imho. Everything is exactly right to create an enduring classic rock song that I’ll be singing for decades (if I live that long 😂). Plus it’s a milestone song for the band and the video is packed with Easter eggs. Then there is the official live video version with MISA’s bass higher in the mix; followed by Black Hole - and that’s one heck of a trip! Rock On 🤘🏼🔥😎

I’ve been following Band-Maid since I think 2018 and seen them progress. I’m proud of these ladies and I love their music. Thanks for being honest I’m sure there’s a lot of music that we both like since music is so subjective and hard to quantify.
@edwardallen40512 жыл бұрын
No point getting upset about other peoples taste and perception of music, it's art, it's subjective. I'm coming from a classic rock perspective ( late 60's through 70's) and Manners sits perfectly into that feel of rock from that time that I love so much. I've just gone through an exercise of taking my 70!!!!! favourite band maid songs reducing them to 32 then 16 etc to see which I really feel are the pinnacle of their songs to me at least. Manners made my top 16 but had to go when i got to 8, I've shocked myself by dropping some great songs early in the exercise, some of which I think are going to be among your favourites from what I can gather from your preferences. I've stopped at 4 because I really can't choose between them and so I'm left with Awkward, Anemone, Blooming and Puzzle as my favourite BM songs. I felt so sad everytime I had to drop a song.

My tastes run to classic groove rock: Slow Ride, Smoke on the Water, Magic Man, Black Magic Woman. That makes this my favorite Band Maid song. I totally get why a metal fan wouldn't care for this; you're not the first. What you're looking for is Rinne, Black Hole and a bunch of songs that don't have videos: Screaming, I Still Seek Revenge, HGK, Giovanni. Maybe even the anime intros Different and Sense. And that's OK. Where you hear basic, I hear great grooves with sprinkles of ear candy. Where I hear noise and chaos, you'll hear fascinating virtuosity. There's something for everyone.

Same here Nathan. This is classic slow rock that is just not seen very much today which is a pity. Manners is a song to simply savor the heavy groove as it penetrates into the depths of one's being. The lyrics perfectly fuse with the song's melodies which is completely enjoyable. It's not flashy but that is certainly not its intent. Band-Maid has many songs that highlight their blazing fastball, but this one is the slow changeup up that leaves the batter stunned at the plate as it slowly sails by perfectly.

This song is classic rock vibes with a lot of groove. I am one of those who really like it because it is simple and catchy. Usually Bandmaid has a lot of complex stuff going on and it’s nice to just groove once in a while. I will say Misa on the bass is doing some cool stuff in this song. I also like the harmonies between Miku and Saiki. It’s cool if some people don’t really take to the song on first listen .. it’s a grower for some. It also depends on what a persons musical tastes lay on the classic rock / metal scale as well.

If you want the other side of the coin (also on the same album), check out Black Hole. They have a double feature of Manners and Black Hole Live on their official channel. You have already checked out Manners, so you can just fast forward to the Black Hole part. Since you are on the wow-train, let's keep it rolling!

The CD release that Manners is from had a limited two CD edition to illustrate the concept behind the album. The first CD was labeled "Roots" "Gentenkaiki" as Miku referred to it in an interview. The second was labeled "Progress" "Gentenshinka" from the same interview. Manners was on both CDs as they considered it a bridge between the two. I too am an old 60s-70s rock fan and love the song because of its groove but also as a fan of Band-Maid I love the song because it is about their struggles to become the band they are now. Your music taste differs from mine but that's no big deal. Honesty in reactions is important. I look at reactions to learn new things about a song and to hear a song from the perspective of someone other than myself.

I would say you stepped on a land mine but I won't do that . I will say it surprises me how narrow musically focused many are . Coming from a Jazz family ( father was a working jazz pianist , and arranger ) in New Orleans for a very long time . Jazz , Blues , Rock Metal , C.Western , Folk music and so on are all blessed with great songs and talented people . In the French Quarter where I grew up I was surrounded by all sorts of music from all parts of the globe . Love it all . I live in an area now where zydeco music reigns , but everyone I know listens to everything. One thing I found universal among them is the ability to get it ... When I introduced Japanese music into our world it was received as a curiosity . Now several years later it has become regular listening fair . Band- Maid just happens to be the most listened to . Manners is considered to be a very chill yet well composed piece here and to my surprise was coverd at a local festival . Just image fiddle , banjo , lap guitar and a dulcimer , plus drums . it was interesting yet faithful to the original . Point is Miku said in one song (Open you're Mind )

Yes, 'Manners' is one of the easiest songs from them to listen. They try to cover all the spectrum and they do really well. This is something that you can see in their catalogue. In my opinion do things easy is more difficult than do things difficult. Great reaction because you are honest and we, The Maidiacs, love honest reactions. Do not worry about it. We will stay here with you for sure. Finally, in my country we have a raw sentence: 'When something appears very good always, at least means that it is suspicious'. Been listening to Bandmaid since 2017. Found them while listening to Babymetal and my first song was Dice followed by Thrill and Daydreaming. I almost skipped this reaction because Manners is not the most awe inspiring track. With that said after hearing this song for probably the 100th time it has grown on me. The "wow" factor in this song (to me) is the long vocal run of Unseen World at the end of the song. This is a very vocal forward song more of an anthem/strut in slo-mo looking baddass kind of energy to it. But I will say it took awhile to grow on me.

[Report] Today's (Sep. 7, Japan Time) Band-Maid concert at Zepp DiverCity Tokyo was amazing 💛. "Freedom" included Akane's drum solo as long as she did in official live video. They played my favorite "Daydreaming" that had not been performed in preceding 3 concerts in Osaka, Nagoya and Sendai. They premiered new song "Influencer". The girls went nuts because they had not played at Zepp Tokyo for 5 years. Especially, Kanami was so excited that she wanted to explode herself by drinking alcoholic beverage on stage ! after Misa before playing "Unleash". Other members were surprised because Kanami did not drink alcohol for years even off stage. So Kanami played last 5 songs under the influence 😄 They are great! FYI. They played "Manners" as well.

We'd rather have honesty, so no problem. It's the feel of this song that makes it one of my favorites, because it takes me back to the 1970's. It's slower tempo but to me still rocks really hard because of that slammin' groove. You are right that it's one of their simpler songs, but so is FATE and that's one of my faves too. Pink Floyd became legendary with mostly very simple things, done extraordinarily well. This was also the first time I heard Saiki really go down and dirty with the vocals, like on the last verse. I am not going to go through all the comments but I imagine that you have received some flack. Manners is one of my favorite Band-Maid songs. It is like comfort food to me. Listening to it just makes me feel good. I am a child of 70s music (born in 1960) and this song would have fit so well in that decade. That is not surprising since Kanami wrote it as her "classic rock" song for Unseen World. She succeeded magnificently. When I first saw this mv, I had already listened to Band-Maid's entire catalog and a few albums several times (World Domination probably much more than several). Because of that, I was very pleasantly surprised how Kanami could write a song with this much old school groove. Maybe it is just the old-timers like me that love it so much.

Thanks for your reaction. This is my #1 favorite songs of the Band Maid of two reasons, I simply love this kind of groove and it was the first song I heard of them and therefore holds a special place in my heart. There is a "live" version, together with the song Black Hole, that makes me think of this MV/album version of Manners as slightly "over produced" and Wave Potter have run an analyse of it instrument by instrument that gives much more clarity to the baseline. I'm coming from not being a metal head at all but quite the opposite, I love band maid despite their music being somewhat heavy and not because of it. Difference in opinion is expected about Manners and the song can not be said to be typical for the album Unseen world, maybe even intentionally untypical.

I'm also a hard rock/metal guitarist going back to the '80s, and this is one of my favorites from Band Maid. No, it's nowhere near their most complex, but it doesn't have to be. It has a solid groove that just makes it fun to listen to for me at least. And I love the vocal interplay between Saiki and Miku. But hey, it'd be a boring world if we all liked the same thing. I absolutely love your reactions. You stay true to what you like and prefer in a sound. And you don't have to like every Band-Maid song that you hear. Like you said, they have over 100 songs in their catalogue. Not all of them can be in your top 10. There are a few for me that are good, but no where near my top, and some that sit in a solid top tier for me. But they are all still by my favorite band, Band-Maid and I love them for that. Manners has a classic rock feel that I like, but it took me awhile to get into it from Band-Maid. It was a different sound from them I wasn't used to. But now I groove to it every time I listen to it. It sits perfectly in the B-M genre. Kanami embraced her inner Santana on this one.

Ma-Me -- It sounds like you at least recognize how well written and played Manners is -- as is all Band-Maid material. But you're right. It's not that difficult chord and melody wise. The thing is, 90%+ bands couldn't play Manners as well as Band-Maid does. And that's one of the things I appreciate about their playing... the execution and individual parts of the bass, drums, guitars and vocals. So being a musician, MaMe, if the song doesn't move you, the Maids execution of it should. I've listened to "Eye of the Beast." It's simple, repetitive, groove rock. I'm not saying that's bad in any way. I like it a little more progressive, but groove rock and metal is my center. I love Jinjer, Band-Maid and The Warning. But not every song is going to hit it for everybody. But I bet you if you listen to Manners a few more times, you'll at least appreciate it and may like it a little more as Maid Music tends to grow on you. Thx!

MANNERS, like most BAND-MAID songs will hit you differently after you have listened to it four or five times. You just admitted that you ignored the the *most important* part of this song: SAIKI’s amazing vocals and the wonderful harmonies provided by KOBATO. Please listen to the live version, which is paired with BLACK HOLE. Those two songs are like book ends outlining the range of styles they have mastered, from classic rock groove to modern progressive insanity. Particularly, pay attention to how the MANNERS (live version) begins simply with AKANE laying down a simple drum beat, which is then joined by MISA’s thundering bass to create an infectious groove before the guitar comes in. Then listen as with each verse the simple songs builds in intensity and complexity to transform into something quit different. It’s truly a masterpiece. Remember, Picasso could “draw like Raphael at the age of ten,” but became famous for being able to engage the viewer with an image created with a single line.

Cool. Track4 actually 😆 but because it’s essentially the title track (“unseen world” 2021) and continues the thread of “take over the world”, along with “our rock never dies ever” and some 40% English… after only one year together, thrill (2014) was their rockingest song to that point that got attention and changed their direction. From the album before this (Conqueror 2019) The Dragon Cries was about this level of “plain rock” but underwhelming since they’d made harder & faster their normal (it was produced by David Bowie’s producer at his request, and was 100% English, both of which made them proud.) Glad you keep it real. And yes, the livestream clip contrasting this with BlackHole will bring enuff shock value to keep you going. Also, try playing any of it, lead bass, pick slides, solos aren’t all. Some is “just a C or A chord”, but there’s a lot going on. And it’s got great groove to break up a speedy chaotic prog “album”, which you and I are spoiled by; not everyone bothers putting out more than sequential singles anymore, but they still try full length LPs, enjoy while it lasts…. 🤘🎸💃😎

Plus BM does add unique elements like the slides and Miku's "Ah, ah, ah, ah" throughout the song. I dig the track. A lot of folks mentioning Black Hole and Rinne. I think you would like Warning MV and Real Existence Live. Both are great hard rock songs Warning is pretty fast and RE is a bit rhrashier. Blooming MV is another really good hard rock song with one of Kanami's better solos. I really think you would dig the live version of Moratorium if you can find it. Has some metal elements.

Can't help wishing you picked the Live version. With band maid, live is always better than the studio version. I hope you give the live version a look too

Its not basic- do you know how many riffs that coulda been full songs were in that? And it had a perfect groove rock sound. You know this song often tops fans lists? Watch Ryan Mears reaction to it to see an old rocker musician blown away by this track.. So thinking its just basic and least fav so far- I just dont get that.

Love you reactions to music!! You should check out the band (The Warning) These three young Sisters (Dani lead guitar, piano and lead locals) (Pau drummer, piano lead vocals) and (Ali Bass guitar, piano backing vocals). from Monterrey Mexico who are highly skilled with there instruments and vocal abilities shared between guitarist and drummer. Thay got recognized on KZbin doing a cover of Metallica's Enter Sandman when thay were very young the youngest sister was 9yrs on bass guitar. About a year ago thay were invited by Metallica to do a new cover of the song on there 30th anniversary of the black album, (What A Accomplishment). Thay have put out a few albums since then are blowing are up the Rock seen!! Thay have open for huge bands like Def Leppard, the killers and were the last opening act for the Foo Fighters before the tragic loss of there drummer 😢. Thay are currently touring with Hell Star and pretty Reckless. A good song for introduction is (Dust to Dust) kzbin.info/www/bejne/gJOaeZxmjZZperc The Drummer (Pau takes lead vocals With her powerful and almost hunting voice. (choke) kzbin.info/www/bejne/mqncg6GjYqxlhrM The vocal proformance is so good and powerful! Has so much addictive energy!!! I know you will give your honest opinion on these three talented young Sisters that are keeping Rock alive!!

First, take out the blues and jazz influences and reduce the song structure down to predictable, repetitive power chords for the mosh and headbang enthusiasts, then further eliminate subtlety by removing Miku's harmonies and vocalizations and turning Saiki into an atonal screamo machine, and there you have it: The Metal Maids. Guaranteed obscurity.

Dude....no sweat man....that's why they make chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry.....tastes vary.....however, songs are NOT piñatas....not all contain surprises....imho, this song could've been a Carrie Underwood song, in composition style....not my favorite either.....have a good one man....keep it up...."Blackhole" live official, should satisfy your cravings....or "Moratorium" live official.....enjoy...."po"

This is a sixties and seventies style rock song... I really don't expect it to appeal to a metal head. I personally think it is one of their best, But then I think most metal is bland and unimaginative, just a bunch screaming and mashing. There are exceptions.
@interstellardave2 жыл бұрын
I agree with this. Flashy technical playing, without feeling, or soul, does nothing for me, and there’s plenty of metal like that. Take Dragonforce, for instance. They are all impressive technically, I’m sure, but their songs are terrible, IMO. I know everyone would say that Herman Li is a better player than Kanami but I’ll still take her any day over him in every aspect that matters.

I'm sure many have and will suggest the LIVE version of this song. The live performance comes with another song called, Black Hole. The live performance was made during the pandemic so there won't be an audience. I'm not sure where you accept your suggestions but I am leaving a link to the live performance with this comment. kzbin.info/www/bejne/n5LJamekg7iFfac If you are underwhelmed by the live tracks, I don't know what to tell you.

You mentioned that there was nothing surprising in this song--except that you were surprised that it wasn't as good as the others you've heard so far. Yeah, just funnin' with you. I've heard other more metal-oriented reactors pan Thrill and Manners. It just doesn't give them what they want and that's fine. I like that you understand that Band-Maid aren't a metal band and as long as you are aware of that, you'll realize that there will be some songs you don't especially like. I'm guessing Rinne might be a good one for you to try.
@AMetalheadsPerspective2 жыл бұрын
Not for everyone. This is a lot slower bluesy sound, but this is also defiantly not a "easy" song to play by any means. There is some complex lead parts if you are paying attention, and I'd like to see anyone replicate the movement on those bass lines, but I get it not aggressive enough, but then you probably wont like more than half of BAND-MAIDS stuff. Get them views in before they bore you. Diversity is what makes this band great, and they aren't pigeon hold into one specific genre. Looking for something specific with this band you are going to run out of "reactions" quickly, and you will move on. Rinne, blackhole, hgk, I still seek revenge for harder rock, but the last 2 don't have official videos.

Yeah, by far my favorite Band-Maid song. I grew up in the 70s with a severe hatred for "Ta' Me'al." And that has proven to be prophetic. Metal has not gotten better. Only more pretentious. I think metal fans have taken the "jaded" moniker from the jazz heads. So, yeah, this is rock. This is not math played in the studio at a level impossible on stage. The drummer cannot be replaced with two triggers and one effect. There are actual vocals, and not some stuff that the lead guitarist growls because he wanted to be the front man and can't sing. The bassist is not playing a 6 string, up tuned, rifftastic "bass." My only problem with Band-Maid is the solos. Drop the solos. Put that effort into subtlety. It's like computer games. I have zero interest in how a game looks. What are the internals? What is the AI? How is the game going to challenge me? Nah, prog-math-metal. Can you chart it on graph paper? You might need some log paper. Don't know what that is? What's wrong with you? "You listen to the wrong music."

That's the only song that sounds like that. Just a complete 180. It's just a jazz, classic rock jam session. I'm a little surprised that you aren't a classic rock guy. That's why it was recommended.

tBH, i DON'T DISAGREE WITH YOU REGARDING THIS m/v - THE LIVE VERSION IS, imo, much BETTER - IT'S A DOUBLE WITH "bLACK hOLE" WHICH IS VERY MUCH AS MORE "METAL" track. I can't recall if you did the M/V for "Thrill" which was from very early in their career, or the quite recent live version which, IMO, is a heck of a lot better. Oh, don't worry about the people gatting their panties in a twist because something doesn't quite appeal to you, it's all 😎👍
