I cannot begin to describe how blessed I feel to have had Barbra's voice in my life my entire life. There are some things that just cannot be bought, and this incredible singer sharing her voice with us is one of those things. And I love that video as well - there's something about black and white film (which I also grew up with) that transports me to a very different time.

Great song! Barbra Streisand is one of the true mega stars. She has spanned over 6 decades of music. This lady has a fabulous voice & can sing many genres of music. She is a singer, actress & filmmaker & one of the few performers to have received awards in multiple fields of entertainment (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar & Tony). Love the musicals she was in especially "Funny Girl" & "Hello Dolly". She has so many great songs that were hits & she has done numerous duets with famous people.

Song is from the musical "Cats", by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Trevor Nunn. Arguably one of the most over-recorded songs ever, La Streisand elevates it - as she does everything she sings - and makes it new. There's a reason she's an icon - your smile says it all! Give a watch to any of her movies also, she's one hell of an actor.

This song was originally written for a musical called "Cats" (1981) where all actors play different cats dressed as cats. "Memory" is sung by an old cat ("Grizabella") that remembers her glamorous days as a young and beautiful cat and now waits for one last new dawn to come for her. In the original version Elaine Paige sings the part of "Grizabella". Barbra Streisand sings it more from a human's perspective as we can see in the video. I like both versions. In our school choir we sang this song, too. But I think you can forget about that. 😸

Oh, Steven! It's been so long since I've watched and listened to Barbra sing! Sitting here hearing her voice once again, I immediately got chills all over, and started crying (happy tears). Delicious! I don't react that way to huge numbers of singers, but there are a few. Dan Vasc is one of them. Tim Foust is another. Then there's Avi Kaplan. Joan Baez. Helen Reddy. Anne Murray. Keith Green. Harry Belafonte. Elvis Presley. Pat Boone. Tom Jones. (Little) Peggy March. Glen Campbell. Marty Robbins. Ernie Ford. There have been others here and there, but those are the biggies that hit me right away. Barbra...just WOW! OK...back to listening... This song ("Memory" -- written by Andrew Lloyd Webber, T.S. Eliot and Trevor Nunn was first performed by Elaine Paige in 1981). Barbra's cover of it was released on November 10, 1981. Before that, she had sung the song "The Way We Were," which was released on September 27, 1973. It too (more than this one, actually) features the way old memories color our lives. It's a GORGEOUS song, which was the theme song for the movie of the same name. I hope you'll search it out and react to it sometime, also. NOTE: I've looked down through the comments before mine, and I see that at least one person has mentioned that Barbra's career took a big hit, later in her life. I won't go into why, but I would suggest just simply enjoying her wonderful music, and leaving it at that. Thank you for the great reaction, Steven. GRANDMA HUGS!

"Memory" is from the Broadway show "Cats" that did not open until ca a year after this album came out. After the show opened, the "Memories" album returned to the Billboard album charts for another 69 weeks based on the buzz of this performance.
